Chadds Ford Tavern
Always outstanding food. Great live music played that’s played at just the right volume.
Like the tavern atmosphere, but was almost too noisy. Scallops are outrageous!
It was our first visit there and we all enjoyed everything we had ordered
Food and service is always great. They have cool live bands as well every week.
My granddaughter’s birthday
Went to Chadds Ford Tavern in December for the fried chicken sandwich and it was SO GOOD I could not wait to go back! Went back - terrible. Soggy chicken, poorly cooked chicken - didn’t eat more than three bites - really bad. So sad.
Though the menu was somewhat limited, I enjoyed the crab benedict and my wife enjoyed the braised short ribs. We got there right at opening so it wasn’t crowded and service was great.
The food was terrific & the service was awesome!
Great food and service, great anniversary dinner, thanks
Very mixed bag overall. Atmosphere was very nice, particularly if you enjoy historical settings, which we do. Was overall comfortable but our table did wobble significantly, which is a particular pet peeve of mine that can and should be easily remedied by any restarant.
Food was mixed, although mostly good. Mushroom bisque was outstanding, maybe best I have had. My wife's Seafood Fra Diavolo was good. My lamb chops were OK, although they could have used a little more seasoning/searing on the outside. Unfortunately they were undercooked as I ordered medium but they were much closer to rare, cold very red center. I always expect a possible "doneness" variation up or down depending on restaurant but this one was a bit too much. My side of goat cheese mashed potatoes came out barely lukewarm, as if they had been sitting waiting for rest of order to be prepared and were very disappointing.
Biggest complaint was that the restaurant nickle and dimed us things you do not expect in a high end restaurant. They actually charge for bread, $2 for a small loaf. Waiter told us this when we asked for bread, but it was still surprising they would charge. And I got charged a full side price of $7 for my goat cheese potatoes even though they were actually a substitute for the regular mashed potatoes that came with my meal. These sound like small things, but when your average entree price is $35 or so, you would expect to get bread and simple side dish substitution (or a small up charge but not a full charge).
Delicious food and atmosphere ! Service was great!
I ordered the local sea bass dinner for $30. It came with string beans and Parmesan risotto but I don’t eat all that cream and cheese and asked to substitute mashed potatoes. Waitress said no substitution but I could order $7 side of mashed. So.. this is a good happy hour and sandwich place but dinners are overpriced and service is not commensurate with price of entree.
Dessert was delicious. I recommend the chocolate Guinness cake.
Excellent food and service! Our waiter was exceptionally kind and made every effort to ensure that our overall dining experience was wonderful!!
Our booth in the bar area was situated directly over an air vent which was blowing heat directly on me. I would suggest to your host that 2 people only should be seated at that booth. We were a party of 4 and when the heat was on, I was practically seated on my husband’s lap. I was literally sweating. Other than that, our food was amazing. The bar was very busy so it was an issue getting a cocktail and wasn’t very happy with the Chardonnay options.
Saturday night dinner with friends. There was a band we hadn’t expected but a welcome surprise. Had to wait on our reservation as 5 groups of diners wouldn’t budge despite being seated for hours and finished. Not to worry, the manager, Kate?, comped our wine (including a pricey Caymus) and more. My fiancé had a special, Stripped Bass, I had a bone-in Filet. Perfection. Try the Fried Doughnuts for dessert. They’re not greasy and do not have holes! A nice treat to share and finish a super meal.
I ordered the salmon entree and it was warm bordering on room temperature. The clams in the appetizer were bigger than I'm used too. Not a clams casino which is what I thought I was ordering. I couldn't eat them.
The wine and chocolate tasting was wonderful. The gentleman explaining the wines and chocolates did a wonderful job. Sitting in the tent was fun as we were able to enjoy our friends company while enjoying the tastings. Great event!
Overall not a bad experience here. The Pommes Frites are amazing and highly recommended!
My wife got the eggplant which was really good, the gnocchi was excellent. Couldn’t tell if they were made in house or not, which if they are that needs to be put on the menu because they are really good! I got the faroe island salmon, which was pretty good overall.
Definitely worth trying out if you are looking for a new place to eat.
Would come back again, but not go out of my way to revisit!
Server was attentive, detail oriented and very helpful.
If my understanding is right that they just re-opened with a new menu, it has a very promising potential and I only wish it the best of luck!
Nice pub atmosphere, good music not too loud, waitress was very nice, the food was delicious
Waited 90 minutes for our dinner. Food was good but evidently there were some major issues in the kitchen. No offer was made to compensate for the lack of food.
Great happy hour!
The Tavern is a great spot for higher end cuisine at a tavern setting. Noise level is a bit high for a romantic setting or private conversation. Bar can get crowded very quickly and seating is limited at the bar, so get there early if you want a spot.
Overall a great place, and will be back there again
We had a 7:45 reservation. We arrived at 7:43. When we arrived we were told there were 3 reservations ahead of us. We waited a couple of minutes and looked at the dining room to see no tables were being cleared, no one looked like they were finishing and realized we would be having a very late dinner if we stayed. There seemed to be no benefit to a reservation. We left. Not sure we would go back for dinner another time.
Great bar vibe, delicious upscale food, good live music
Excellent food, ambiance, and service!! Will be returning for another great meal very soon.
This was the first time that we tried Chadds Ford Tavern since we just moved nearby and I can definitely see us returning often. We went for Sunday brunch and split the crab Benedict and the short rib hash and OMG were they delicious! We are big short rib fans and this place did not disappoint. The sauce was just awesome. You also get like nice size crab cakes for the Benedict, so obviously that was yummy. Finally, we loved our waiter! He was such a sweetheart and made us laugh. Would highly recommend checking it out!
The food was very good, as usual, however the night we went the service was very poor. Drinks were taking over 40 minutes to arrive at the table and 30 minutes after we ordered an appetizer the waiter came back to tell us they were out of it. Not sure what was going on but it was definitely frustrating.
The evening would have been MUCH more enjoyable if we were not rushed, rushed, rushed to decide our menu selections, to gobble it down because then next thing was already at the table waiting, etc. etc. We ordered drinks and several times before the drinks arrived were asked what we wanted to order. Conveyed we' like to relax with drinks then order, only to be asked 3 more time. Food great Little loud.
We had to wait 49 minutes to be seated for a 7:30 reservation on a Friday night.
Food was excellent. It was very loud. Band was excellent. Music was a bit too loud for the dining room.
Will try again but not on a Friday night unless we plan to sit in the bar and not have a conversation.
The Caesar salad was lettuce with kraft Parmesan sprinkled on top. The organic chicken breast I ordered was partially a thigh and had so much breading you could scarcely find the chicken. And when I asked to substitute my side of mashed potatoes for risotto, was assured this was no problem and instead charged for a full side- an additional $7.00!
Disappointing for sure.
We really enjoyed our meal. There was music in the bar, which you could hear in the dining room, but we enjoyed it. It was not too loud and the singer was very good. Food and drinks were excellent. Will definitely return.
Detailed write up on yelp but ...
Slow service after a few week break but was entertained by live band as we waited.
Two average meals on the chicken parm, good on the seafood fra diavolo and excellent on the pork chop special.
Desserts great - must have the ricotta cheesecake and the apple donuts.
All in all a good meal. Will be back with a few changes on what we ordered now that we have a feel for what’s done best.
Best cheeseburger around!
Being local, we were very excited when the Tavern re-opened. We wanted to support a local establishment and we made it a point to go at least 5 times over the last year. While the food has been decent, the service has progressively declined over the year. We have never seen the same service staff again, and usually we are at the mercy of young and inexperienced staff. While I keep wanting to go back for the food, the service prevents me from ever going to this local establishment again. Now let me tell you about the worst part of this place. THE WATER! It tastes metallic and smells even worse. I have never tasted sewer water, but I can imagine it tasting and smelling better than the water the Tavern serves it's customers!. They even cannot provide normal tasting fountain beverage products. The coke and sodas also taste horrible and are flat. This is the final straw! Never going there again!
Bad night. Restrooms were out of order, so we did not stay. Aren’t there laws against a public establishment not having operating restrooms???
I will say, we have typically enjoyed the CF Tavern.
Reopening after a few minor renovations, and expecting snow the next day, it was a busy night at Chadds Ford Tavern. Our food was excellent, as it almost always is. We shared a Tomahawk, as well as the half Stuffed Lobsters, and they were great! a few minor glitches, the main bartender seemed a little overwhelmed. but he was also alone on a Friday night, with the above mentioned going on...so forgivable. Our food did take much longer than we normally wait, however it gave us a chance to chat and enjoy each others company, so all in all a great evening. Betsy was a great server! She paid attention to all the minor details, and made sure we had all we needed, and was very sweet! This has become our new favorite place over the last year or so since we discovered it, so we will be back!!
We went on a Friday night and the first night they reopened after being closed all week so it was extremely busy when we walked in. That being said when we finally made it to the host stand and told her we had a reservation, we were immediately sat and the waitress came over in just a few minutes. Overall it was a nice experience. We were right next to the live music so it was very loud. The food was good and came out promptly. We each got the bacon wrapped filet meal. Not sure if it was $34 dollars good, but it was tasty.
Love it there but the water tastes terrible
What a selection for the New Year's Eve buffet! Lobster tails, shrimp cocktail, bacon wrapped shrimp, salmon, crab cakes, lamb lollipops, filet mignon, cheese steak egg rolls, stuffed mushrooms, pastas, salads, soups, and breads...and refilled often! So delicious!
New’s eve food outstanding and our server excellent and band great ! Fun time with friends.
