Charlie's on the Lake
J. Gilbert’s - Wood Fired Steaks & Seafood - Omaha
We left after 40 minutes, not having a Waiter even recognize we were seated and ready for Drinks and Dinner.
Booked a reservation for a Family Brunch. We arrived the find the restaurant was closed despite what was stated on website and open table. Had to scramble to find an alternative on a busy holiday weekend. Clearly a sign of a restaurant that doesn’t have their act together.
Great Food and service.
We had the best waitress
Due to my wife's work schedule we had a late reservation. When we got there the manager told us they were closed. I mentioned that they shouldn't have taken a reservation if they were closed and he claimed there were no reservations, then he looked at the comp screen and said my name.
We were seated and served, but since they already shut down the fryer we couldn't order anything deep fried, no big deal to me, but one thing we wanted that was on the menu was not in stock that being escargot.
Everything we ordered was very good and our waiter was on point, he only appeared when he thought we may need something and he was able to anticipate when that may be without being overbearing.
Sadly, the only thing we enjoyed was the amazing Millionaire Martini. We had a brand new waiter who was obviously NOT ready to be on his own. He couldn't tell us what went with our entree (i.e. a salad and 1 side... 2 sides... etc) or if they even had a dessert menu (he finally handed me a tiny slip of paper that was clearly meant to be notes for the servers on specials, etc as he dashed away). Everything took forever and it ended up being almost a 2 hour dinner (with a 2 year old!!). Our waiter was super nice and he tried so hard. We didn't blame him at all - it was 100% the restaurants responsibility to train the basics and they failed him and those he served. Trial by fire isn't always the best avenue. We tipped him well (again not his fault), but we will not return as customers. Additionally, the steaks we had were just "okay"... the twice baked potatoes were not very good at all and the chocolate torte I ended up getting for dessert was very disappointing. The bill was over $115 (2 adults and a toddler) and we left wishing we had never tried this restaurant. The Millionaire Martini is the only redeeming reference for me personally. Not a good first experience... but it will be the last.
Prime rib was horribly overcooked. We tried pieces from 2 different roasts. It was the main reason we thought paying their brunch buffet price was ok.
Went there for Mother’s Day brunch and it was phenomenal.
This place was terrible! The service was not great and the food was awful. The prime rib was way over cooked and could not be cut through or chewed. When we asked if could get the prime rib rare or medium rare the man cutting it said no. The ‘steamed’ mussels were cold. Poached eggs were over cooked and not runny in the slightest. The ‘dessert’ area consisted of 1 kind of donut, 1 kind of muffin and a croissant. It was really the worst buffet I have ever been to. We will never go back.
Nowhere on the website or on their menu did they say that they had a buffet for Mother’s Day. When we got there the staff was still formulating a plan on how to serve the tables. We were given menus and seated at a booth with crud on the wall. The waitress was attentive and cleaned the crud once we pointed it out then she said that she did not understand why we got menus as they are only serving the buffet for Mother’s Day. We were looking forward to ordering items off the menu. We were not sure how safe the Buffay would be during the time of Covid. So we left. It is very difficult to get into a place on Mother’s Day without a reservation. This restaurant really messed with our Mother’s Day. Had we known upfront that it was Buffet onlyWe would have not gone there. Very disappointed in the restaurant will not be returning anytime soon.
Went their for a birthday!!
We enjoyed it very much and will go there again.
Our wait staff person did an extraordinarily excellent job with our large family gathering. The food was excellent and at no time did we feel rushed at all. A most enjoyable experience.
Sports bar screens distracting. It was nice that the sound was off.
Horrible Experience. Place was filthy, service was horrible. They have Keno here now with steakhouse prices and kids running the show
Dirty! Food was Blah, service was not service. It was awful
It was very nice and great food.
Way too expensive for below average food. It was a semi-trashy atmosphere. Very worn out and aged. Went from a respected high end restaurant to utter disappointment. I would compare the atmosphere to that of McDonalds. Go to Texas Roadhouse for half the price and get 10x better food and service.
Used to be a nice Seafood restaurant. Now the sign on the door says "Charlies Sports Bar and Grill". That says it all. It's stuck somewhere between a Sports Bar (TVs every where) and Dine In Restaurant. Overpriced for a Sports Bar,
My son went for Prom and said the food was outstanding !! Thanks for making his first prom special!!
Waited 45 minutes still didn’t have drinks and we were seated in the bar area. Three middle-aged women wanted to have dinner before the show we were there for 2 hours and had one drink And a meal that would’ve been better at Applebee’s or made it home This was not a restaurant experience it was a nightmare.
A sports bar had only one small tv showing the masters and Lawrence Welk, Jeopardy, and Corn Hole and Horse racing on the others. Service was horrids beginning to end.
We were out for family night first time there in 10 years. The steaks had no flavor and was tough. The fish fingers were mushy, the cod had no flavor, the scallops were so.
Our waitress did not mention the specials and if she did the jumbala would have been a popular thing at our table.
We tried a piece of the chocolate cake, the waitress did not mention that it was bitter dark chocolate. Four of us did not enjoy it.
At this time we will not be back due to the food or and waitress quality.
Abysmal. To sum it up, at one point, the person who took our order ran passed out table and looked at the food and said “ those hash browns look awful, I’m bringing you new ones” 15 minutes later she ran by and threw the check at me. I asked for a box. I gave her my card. When she brought it back my check was with the wrong CC. I had to yell to get her to stop. She then disappeared for 5 minutes. We were there over 2 hrs and observed other tables being waited on appropriately. It as appalling.
I submitted a reservation through Open Table for 4 for patio seating for Easter. When we arrived the hostess said they don't take reservations for the patio & that ehe patio is "first come first serve only" & that the patio was full at the time. I asked if we could wait in the bar area for a patio table. The hostess said they don't do that & all they could offer was dining room seating with no other explanation. We reluctantly took the dining room table. We mentioned to our waitress that we had wanted to sit outside & she offered to send over the manager. The manager arrived & claimed that Open Table over booked Charlie's for Easter and that Open Table is not supposed to allow the Open to choose where you sit because they do not take reservations for the patio. The manager also claimed that there are various other errors on their Open Table page that he needs to call them about but hasn't. The manager said "if something opens up on the patio while you're here, we will be sure to get you out there." After we received our drinks we saw a table clear outside, so we mentioned to the hostess about it. The hostess said they were going to clean the table for us & then move us outside. 15 minutes passed by and another server showed up saying he "I'm just the messenger, but I'm sorry we're not going to be able to get outside to the patio today, I don't have a reason why, but I'm just supposed to tell you we can't do it." We waited another 45 minutes for our food to finally arrive. It took 2 hours for 4 people to have brunch. We will never be making reservations at Charlie's ever again. Absolutely terrible experience.
Service was terrible. No one spoke to us for at least 20 min after we were seated. We sat right by the kitchen and had to listen to the head chef yell at his crew the whole time. Most of our meals came out with food missing, and one whole meal was forgot all together. Was not a good Easter brunch experience to say the least.
We made a reservation for the patio, for our very first Easter 'out' in our entire lifetime. We chose Charlie's specifically for the lake view. Upon arrival, we were told our table was ready, then as we are walking, our hostess was stopped (quite frantically) and told that they had seated someone else at our table, and we would not be able to be seated on the patio. We were not offered anything for this mistake, other than a very flimsy excuse that 'something is wrong with online booking and there are no 5 top tables outside' even though we could clearly see many 5 tops. Of course, we had no choice but to eat inside. I've worked in enough service positions to know that you should comp something when you make an error like this, but we weren't offered so much as a free cracker. To make things worse, we saw them continue to do this throughout our meal to other people with reservations. It appears they are filling up their reservations, then allowing people to come in off the street (no reservation) and just crossing their fingers that the tables worked out. When the repeatedly didn't, it was those of us who had planned ahead that paid the price. How very deceitful to do this just to try to pack your restaurant even more full than capacity allows (during covid). I will not return because of this.
The food and atmosphere was absolutely amazing (however, one entree was missing it's sauce)! Only problem we had was we were sat for 30 minutes before anyone came to our table (if it wasn't a gorgeous day outside we would have left in that amount of time especially since tables after us were being helped first). When we were finally helped, the waitress we had was very friendly but they definitely seemed to be either short staffed or plain overwhelmed! We'll be back though!
Charlie’s was an amazing place and our server made you feel like family.
It was good. We wanted seafood so it was the perfect place to go
The service was outstanding. It was a busy night but we felt very appreciated and the server was attentive. They brought the kids food out first with the appetizer, which was good because of how long it took to get out meal. The scallops are very good, just had a little too much of the cracker topping. The crab cakes had a lot of filler. Overall a great dinner.
Ribeye is worth the price! Took leftovers home and still couldn’t eat it all. Normally a steak that big isn’t the quality I look for but not here! I highly recommend!
Food was good but I expected a little fancier ambiance for the price of the food. Felt like I was at a sports bar while eating a $40 steak.
Great ambiance and waiter was superb.
The food is quite high in sugars and salt and more healthy options need to be made available. Otherwise, they need to be able to supply a nutrition list.
Food was just ok but there are things we didn’t get that I’d like to try so we will try it again.
Saturday night was my wife and my anniversary. We were seated on the patio. Could not have been a better evening and dining experience!
Delicious fried shrimp! The menu needs a a really legit burger option to round things out.
Haven’t been to Charlie’s in years but the food was even better than I remembered
My mother in law and our family had a wonderful time celebrating her birthday. The cheesecake at the end of the meal was delicious! Will return soon!
