Our Server was EXCELLENT! My husbands meal, he said was the very best rockfish he had ever eaten! The roasted beet salad was very tasty!
The Tides Inn is always a winner, beautiful setting, great cocktails and food, and very friendly service. Book and room, enjoy and relax!
$115 for a 4 course preset meal. I had 2 pasta courses of which both were cold. Flavor was pleasant. Rosetta was served on a piping hot plate showing that it had been sitting under a heat lamp. The plate was hot risotto was cold. Next course also cold pasta. 2 courses we needed to wait for silverware. I asked for cracked black pepper for my pasta and was given salt and pepper shakers. For $115 price point service and the food should be at another level. There shouldnt be long waits between courses. Table should be cleared and reset with silverware. Hot courses should be served hot.
Another very nice dinner at the Chesapeake Restaurant. Very quiet atmosphere due to COVID but the food and service excellent, as usual.
Amazing restaurant, ambiance, food and service! They really made my husband’s birthday special as well as accommodating my special dietary needs. We cannot wait to go back!
Beautiful terrace for al fresco dining in the time of COVID. Tables appropriately distanced, heaters well placed to keep warm and clear skies with tons of stars. Great wines by the glass and delicious she crab soup. Perfect setting and wonderful food. Will definitely return!
Anniversary. Excellent meal and service from a friendly and attentive staff. Our first time at Tides, but certainly not the last!
Mixed reviews!! We have been to the Tides Inn many times for celebrations over the years and were excited to return. I specifically requested a table by the window for the views. There were many tables to select from and they placed us in a spot that has defective windows, so the view was distorted. There is a distinct musty smell in the area where we sat as if those windows had leaked in the past. The salads were expensive, but delicious. We were so excited for a great meal. Main course was overpriced, lacked presentation and tasted blah. The corn on the chicken dish was chewy like it was old cattle corn and the carrots looked as if they came from a can. My husband's rock fish over grits had been sitting under a warmer and had a film over the sauce that reflected sitting longer than it should have and the scallops were tough on my mother's meal. We were definitely underwhelmed and shared this with the server. We will go back for a drink on the terrace, but will skip what they call fine dining in the future. Such a shame.

Anniversary
Everything about dining out is different with COVID-19. Wait help tends not be as attentive. The Tides uses this room for three meals a day so the ambiance beyond the great view is nothing special. We enjoyed the fried oysters app, rock fish catch of the day and beef carpaccio. The carpaccio seemed to be more about all the Arugula piled on top.
Great wine list.
Small portions high prices, ie three pan seared scallops for $38. You get the idea. If you like garlic, they use lot’s of it. Tomato and burrata salad had one small piece of mozzarella cheese and over ripe small heirlooms. My oysters on the half shell had been shucked much earlier and were refrigerator dried out. They also added gratuity for a party of two. I don’t mind paying for a good quality meal, but this was not it. Sorry.
The food and service were wonderful ! The crab cake sandwich is the best i have ever eaten.
There aren't that many dining options in the area so the Chesapeake ought to be the top choice for a nice dinner. It was certainly a rewarding change from the disastrous meal we had at another local eatery the previous evening. There are sufficient options on the menu to satisfy most people. The food was excellent & nicely presented. All the servers were friendly & helpful, but the lack of fine restaurant experience on the part of some of them was evident (while the lack of a deep pool of experienced wait staff in this area is understandable, management could do a better job of training). They were all quite attentive however. Sufficient COVID precautions were in place and most diners wore masks when not at a table eating. Overall, this was a very good dinner & we recommend it as the place to go when in the area.
We went for our anniversary and the tenderloin was absolutely divine!
Tides Inn was sold out for the weekend, but we were glad to stay close by and join for a dinner
We enjoyed our dinner with a two month old, and appreciated how accommodating all of the staff were. The pianist was a nice touch!

Fantastic all the way around. Handling COVID precautions and excellent service with ease. A great setting that the food matches. The rice cake bed for the seared Tuna (catch of the day) was a triumph. The talented chef came out to our table to thank us personally for the compliments we sent via the wait staff. A birthday evening to remember. Thank you Tides Inn team.
It was good
Beautiful scenery and ambience. Menu is limited and pricey. Steak was well worth it. The music was too far away from the diners, which would have made it almost perfect.
Overall good food, friendly service and attentive staff. Only complaint is add on cost for salmon in entree that was not disclosed on the menu pricing.
They set up a table isolated at the window for a great water view. Scallops, calamari and octopus were perfectly prepared
Perfect place to celebrate
An absolute MUST! LOVED the restaurant and LOVED the food! Absolutely delicious and a gorgeous presentation. Our server, Martha, was fantastic and make the entire experience amazing! Would highly recommend!
Some really wonderful new changes at the Chesapeake. We had a really fabulous dinner on the terrace. An exceptionally talented chef and a very service oriented staff that raises the experience. Bravo!

Expensive, poor service food pretty good but definitely not worth the price. Dinner shouldn't take 2.5 hours with most of it waiting.

Overall the food was good. A few menu items looked creative but many looked fairly standard, if not unoriginal. I would have preferred more unique dishes to match the beautiful location.
The service was just OK. For example, we ordered an expensive bottle of wine and were eager to start drinking it, but we waited close to 15 minutes to receive it. In fact, we received our first appetizer before receiving the wine, which is a big pet peeve of mine. If I order a drink to go with the meal then I want to have received the drink by the time the food arrives.

Fathers Day Brunch! We ate on the patio, it was wonderful! beautiful day, wonderful view. The food was excellent! Tasty, on point as described. We will definitely return.

Had the Sesame-crusted Spicy Tuna special, fried green tomatoes and a corn veloute'.
This was the best meal I have eaten in 2020, and was on par with the meal I enjoyed Inn at Little Washington back in 2013.
