   The waitress we had rushed us all the time; she cleared plates whilst one of our guests was still eating. We all four of us felt very uncomfortable and unable to take our time. The food was unfortunately not the best in our opinion. A medium steak was more rare than medium rare, the duck was quite tough and difficult to eat. There were good parts to the meal but I would not recommend the restaurant due to the food and the service. Beautiful grounds and decor but apart from that it was definitely not worth the expense.

   We recently attended Circa 1876 for a girls luncheon. We had the 2 course option and the service and food was outstanding. The staff were attentive without being overbearing and knowledgeable about the menu. The food was absolutely excellent and the portions generous enough to leave us all very full after the two courses.

   This was the perfect location to celebrate my mum's birthday. Everything was a 10/10. Impressed with the food and service. Highly recommend Circa 1876!

   If you like food that is meticulously plated and cooked to perfection, then this is the place for you. Fine dining in a wonderful atmosphere with staff who are attentive and not overbearing. We have received wonderful service from Jen on several occasions

   Second time back for a special occasion, we did the degustation with wine pairing menu on our 1st visit pre-covid and it was stunning. This time we had the 3 course dinner menu with wine pairing and this was amazing 👏 we both had the starters for scallops , for entrée I choose the tenderloin medium rare and the birthday girl had the snapper, we finished off with Chocolate Mousse and a fab cheeseboard. I don't do reviews but OMG this meal and pairings where absolutely amazing. We would totally recommend Circa 1876 and we will definitely be back next time we are in Oz. BTW I'd also recommend you popping into Pepper Tree Winery next-door for the wine sampling

   Food was a big disappointment, waiter were not able to speak English properly nor did they have any knowledge of the wines. And that in a wine region! Definitely not coming back.

    This is more than fine dining, this is a dining experience. A stunning rural setting provides a peaceful ambiance and the food is absolutely beautiful. The staff are amazing with the most extraordinary service. We absolutely loved the whole evening and would do it again tomorrow. I have told everyone about it. Thank you

    Booked for daughters 21st birthday. Food was excellent and service on point. Lovely ambience and not loud, tables beautifully spaced. Lots of attention to detail. Food was well seasoned, and much larger portions than I would expect at this price point. Local produce was highlighted. Perfect evening

    Nice professional fusion of European classic and Asian cuisine. Appreciated the menu choice that still offers a good variety of meat, pates, and fish and not too much trendy vegetarian focused. Beautiful dining room in a historic cottage, with attentive service 👌

    A rickety, ancient building houses this fine dining restaurant in pokolbin. It has lots of nooks and crannies with interesting artefacts scattered throughout and cool chandeliers creating an ambient atmosphere. Great service, delicious food and an amazing wine list make this a dining experience to remember.

    Lovely room. Attentive service and great food with paired wines. The scallops were delicious and the beef melted in your mouth. Beautifully presented food but not over fussy. Quantity was just right as were the flavours with the possible exception of the mushrooms with the scallops where the scallops were slightly over powered.

    We love going to Circa 1876 every time we visit the Hunter Valley. It has been one of our absolute favourites for many, many years. We have never had a bad meal, the food is fabulous, Karen the waitress is brilliant and we love the atmosphere.

    Beautiful old building, the food came out quickly and was delicious. Two small aspects - the waitstaff did not nap or hand us the menu on arrival (Fine dining expectation). Service staff were all lovely but one was a little bit hard to understand when he was explaining our dishes. We would definitely return it was a very enjoyable experience, thank you.

    All the staff were friendly. Great service and ambiance. The only comment on the food was that the fillet steak was cut into 2 pieces, and I think one thick piece would have been better. Overall we had a great night.

    A dining experience not to be missed- lovely setting- delightful food with outstanding matching wines - service was impeccable. Being able to wander around the kitchen garden and the gorgeous estate afterwards was an added bonus. A must for anyone who loves amazing food and wine.

    My husband and I had beautiful dinner last night. Everything was delicious and the food was amazing. The flavours really complimented each other in every dish we had. The duck melted in your mouth, the venison, the scallops…Loved the ambiance and the service especially Karen who took time to answer questions and made amazing coffee ❤️

    It was an outstanding experience. The service was brilliant, our waitress was fantastic. The ambience was so beautiful, the decor and historic nature of the Restaurant is phenomenal. It was a really treat.     The service was excellent. The complimentary bread and raspberry sorbet were delicious. The duck pate entree and duck breast main dish were excellent. Wished there was more brioche to go with the duck pate. Scallops entree was good and the beef main dish was standard. Desserts were amazing all around. It was also great to walk around the garden after and see the fresh produce.
