Coachman's Bar at The Falcon Hotel
We had a Sunday Roast at the Falcon in the Autumn, and it was so good, that I chose to celebrate my big birthday with a Sunday Roast and a walk by the canal - perfect. The staff were welcoming and friendly and the dinner itself was very tasty. We especially enjoy the separate dish of vegetables and the extra gravy. I have the small roast and my husband has the regular - plenty for both of us.
I just hope we can get a table next time after leaving a good review !
SO disappointing! When we arrived and said we had a table booked, the table was just pointed out to us. We sat down, but no-one brought menus or took a drinks order. After at least 20 minutes one of our party queued at the bar, and when it was his turn to be served was told to sit down and someone would come over. Another 15 minutes went past, then my husband stopped a waitress and asked if we could order drinks. He was told very brusquely that someone would come soon. At this point we would have had our drinks if he'd been allowed to order at the bar, but no, another 15 minute wait. Another waitress spotted that we didn't have menus, so finally brought us some. We had booked a table for 6pm as we had young children with us, but it took so long to order food and drinks, we were there much later than planned.
I chose sea bream and saute potatoes, but received sea bream and boiled new potatoes, and when I questioned it, someone eventually came back and said they were saute potatoes (like none I've ever seen or would want - I left them).
I know it was the time of year, but the place was taken over by huge Christmas parties, which was never mentioned when we booked. Our table was in the bar, so we were surrounded by people standing and drinking, and the noise level was unbearable. When I booked, I said it was for a special birthday, and my son even brought a table decoration with us, so it was obvious what we were celebrating, but no-one said a thing about it or tried to make our experience special. We felt like an inconvenience, as obviously they only cared about the Christmas parties.
Sadly, this is not my first visit to the Falcon Hotel, but it will be my last, especially as having eaten at another restaurant in Bude the night before where the food was superb and we were treated very well. I know where I will eat in the future.
Poor menu choices. Good waiting time. No complaints about the staff they were heroes. Bar was clean and table adequate. Very badic not for special occasions. Probably wont return.
We had been coming to the falcon for around 5 years , we love the falcon and the staff were always great . The last two times the food has lost its standards dramatically which is such a shame . I the veg is over cooked where before you would have a selection of nice veg in a dish . There was a couple that had been waiting an hour for food but I noticed other people that come in after them had there meal before . Rightly so they complained and left . The amount of times I was asked my staff is everything ok or if we want the dessert menu I could not count , we was actually had a conversation with people on the next table as they got asked more than us . I did not recognise any of the staff that evening which was also a shame as the usual staff were amazing and could not do enough and you get asked once if you’re ok and get left to enjoy your evening. Huge shame I hope things perk up for the falcon and get standards back .
Staff always friendly and professional.
Food cooked superbly with a great choices to choose from the menu. From a quick bite to a full blown thee course with all the trimmings. With beer to cocktails to accompany it.
Sit inside with a roaring fire on a cold winters night to out side under the umbrellas on a lovely summers day watching the world go by along the canal
Was extremely good service. Quick and easy. However there was only one veritairain meal for my friend. Prices were cheap and would happily recommend.
We always go for meals at the falcon when we come to bude, it is always good, food, service, very clean and staff are always welcoming, our favourite place to eat. Jan Steward.
This was my first visit and I shall certainly come again. My relations ( residents of Bude) had not visited the establishment before. The only disappointment was my steak which proved very gristly. The other’s steaks were fine. I enjoyed the ambience and the sense of history and was intrigued by the stage coach picture. I think the location is superb. The staff , (Alan and Amanda)in particular ,were very pleasant. I look forward to my return in the Autumn.
Excellent as usual! Lovely food, attentive staff, comfortable surroundings
The bar where we sat had had a make over, still cosy and Cornish pub style but cleaner lines. We had our dog with us so confined to the bar . But all good all the staff talked to us and our dog. There was a wedding on so would be a delay with food orders, but we were told this before we got the menus. The food delay was less than they said we ordered olives marinated with sunblush tomatoes that kept us going . The mains were lovely the steak was cooked to perfection and the sauce was yummy. My fish was tasty and came with a bisque sauce. The veg was fresh. The mash was smooth and buttery. A lovely meal with attentive cheerful engaging staff.
Great location, food was good but service struggled with weekend demand. Would visit again. Thanks.
We ate in the hotel as we were staying there and we had a 9 year old with us. I looked in the bar on Saturday night and saw that there were numerous 'Reserved' signs on tables and I had not booked a table for dinner. Maxine asked if all was well and I explained the situation. She sorted me out a reservation no problem, very impressed to see this sort of service which is uncommon in my experience these days. My whitebait starter was so big it was like a main course. It is a good spot for smart but informal dining so perfect for us. Kim at the bar was very good with my son who has ADHD, very friendly, proper Cornish! We had a great stay and a great meal.
A party of 8 (including 2 children and a vegetarian) to celebrate a 70th birthday. Nothing to fault at all. Lovely.
Our lunch was to celebrate my husband’s birthday. We both enjoyed our meal, and the service was notably good.
Absolutely brilliant. We had Sunday lunch. Staff very nice. Food excellent
Very good all-round experience - this was our second visit and will most probably become a regular treat prior to attending the Bude Jazz Club events.
Went over to The Falcon to try the Fish night and was not disappointed Food was excellent and very good value for money.
Fantastic meal, followed by entertainment by the folk club.
This was our first visit here and most certainly won't be our last. An excellent meal, attentive staff and pleasant, comfortable surroundings.
Had an enjoyable meal with friends to celebrate three birthdays. The staff were very friendly and the food was tasty and piping hot. It was a Fish Special evening ( a Wednesday) which was very good value, two main courses for £20 but I dont know if this is a regular event.
A first class friendly service and excellent food. Will definitely use this restaurant when I am in the Bude area.
Excellent food and service yet again, can highly recommend
This was my first visit and I was impressed with the service, friendly and helpful staff, food was excellent which all lead to a very pleasant evening, would definitely recommend this venue.
Great food, atmosphere, attentive staff. Will definately return and recommend to friends
