Cooper's Hawk Winery & Restaurant - Reston
THE WORST SERVICE I HAVE EVER EXPERIENCED.
Do not go to this restaurant if you expect even the most basic form of service. The night started with sitting at the empty table for about 20 minutes until someone came by to get our drink order. Another 20 minutes go by until I have to actually ask for our server to bring bread to our table. They then proceeded to give us our appetizers and entrees at the exact same time. Who does that? I asked them to please hold our entrees so that it doesn't get cold while we eat the appetizer. I was expecting that our server will follow up with us and take note of when we finish the appetizer to bring out the entree. LIKE A NORMAL RESTAURANT. But that did not happen. We waited 35 minutes until I had to find someone and ask them to bring us our entrees since we have been LONG done with the appetizer. Once the entrees come out, I noticed that two of our orders are completely wrong and the person who ordered medium rare steak now had beyond well done steak due to the extended time under a heat lamp. And to top it off- during this long dinner of mostly waiting, not once were we asked if we wanted to order more drinks or had any refills of our waters. I would not have written this review if this was a one time experience. Sadly, I have a similar experience every time I dine here. I will no longer return to this restaurant until something changes.
The service was spectacular. Great server great personality great advice. Brussels sprouts were the hit. I liked the bisque, but my son/hubby weren’t used to pieces of veggies. Husbands steak was over done but mine was great. My veggies were spectacular (life balance medallions). My sons NY strip was ok in taste. Daughter liked her crispy pork. She didn’t like her tuna and the server was quick to replace with shrimp. Did the wine tasting (lux) and diff wines with dinner. All the wines were “light “ for their varietal. But we think this must be the winemakers style, to suit more palates.
The food and wine are excellent. Service is leisurely but friendly. The atmosphere is very relaxed and comfortable. A great value.
Relaxing restaurant with very good food. We had the Sangria White and I highly recommend it. Great time
As always, great food and service! Hence why I keep coming back!
We love coming here. Great ambience and food. Today we had exceptional service which made it even better. All in all an amazing birthday dinner.
The last three times I’ve been at Cooper’s Hawk in Reston the table service has been great but the kitchen service seriously lacking. It has taken forever for food to be served. They have been out of Brussels sprouts one of their signature appetizers because they ran out of sauce (how does that happen?). Last night they lost our dessert. Given how horrible the parking is, I wonder how often we will return.
As always - the food and service was fabulous!!
Soup and salad combo was just perfect for lunch. Nice variety of choices. Thanks to Jasmine for attentive service.
We truly enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate our anniversary at Cooper’s Hawk. Thank you for the delicious food and the ambience.
Great value for your dollar. Upscale food and dining experience with reasonable prices.
Good is always great, and Jorge is an excellent server!
Diaz was an excellent server. He was very friendly, attentive, courteous and committed to providing us an outstanding dining experience.
Excellent food, fantastic wine selection, staff professional and helpful. Always an enjoyable meal
I always love dining at Coopers Hawk their food never lets me down. Enjoyed every entree and the wine tasting.
I normally love Cooper’s Hawk. Today the service and food were not good. Not sure what is happening
40th wedding anniversary!
Food was good but service lacking. Had to look for waiter when needed something even though not busy. Took while for food and drinks to come out after ordering. No iced tea and no coffee because machine broken.
Food and service were great. We sat outside so the noise level was good. (Inside is always noisy AND cold so glad we had an outside table.) Waiter, Shane, checked on us often and ensured we were satisfied, so thanks specifically to him for our great experience!
Perfect service, excellent cuisine!
We had a great time and the food was very good. appetizer portions were a little large. Wish the waiter had mentioned that since it was too much food including our entres. The wine tasting is great however if you like one of the wines you have to join their wine club in order to buy a bottle of the wine which we didn't like. We don't drink enough wine to belong to a club, which is why we didn't give a straight 5-star rating.
Great food and service
Our server, Nate, is outstanding! I have food allergies and he made sure my meal was perfect. He gave great recommendations and was very knowledgeable about the wines and menu items.
The food here is always very good and the service is always fair-to-poor. I keep returning because of the food and with the hope that the service will finally rise to that quality level. But, after five visits, I’m beginning to have my doubts.
Everything was great. The wine tasting was worth the money, and dinner was delicious.
Cooper’s Hawk has expanded into a “chain” restaurant and has lost its quality and presentation. The quality is now average and no presentation on the plate there once was. Mass production type atmosphere now. Bathrooms are never clean and maintained during busy time periods. Am canceling our wine membership as this place has lost its uniqueness. Big business and profitability has moved in.
The beef short rib polenta was very salty and hard to eat. I would not recommend this dish. There are so many other great dinner choices.
Our waiter was wonderful. Especially, since our "guests" we were taking out to dinner were a bit difficult. Thank him for bearing with us.
Wonderful wine tasting and a fantastic dinner.
We had very poor service. No bread offered, wine arrived with dinner. Had to argue regarding my "thank-you" wine. Very disappointed.
This was our 33 year anniversary. We showed up for our reservation and the storm had k locked out the power. Couldn't eat. Supposedly the back up generator wasn't working . Ended up spending $500 at Mortons.
No fault of their own.
This review does not really reflect the restaurant under normal circumstances. The food is normally very good and it is a great atmosphere. However, on this particular evening there had been a thunderstorm and the power was out. I had made reservations for a group for a b-day celebration. After standing by the front door for over 30 minutes the power still did not come on. My group wanted to sit at the table and at least have a glass of wine in the interim. I asked status on the power and repeatedly got the answer they had no idea and that my guess was as good as theirs. We did eventually get seated and were given a bottle of wine and another guest was able to get a glass of sangria, we were told that would be it since they could not ring up purchases. My issue is with the utter lack of communication about the outage and what the restaurant was going to do. After sitting at the table approximately 45 minutes and still no power, I went to ask again for a status since we had been watching all the tables being cleared. On my way to the front I got 2 different answers from employees, we are closing, to kitchen is closing but we are staying open, and then at the front I get the same I know nothing answer, so she calls over one of the managers who also gives me the who knows answer and then the GM comes over also with the same. I asked had they been in touch or heard from the power company and had they gotten an estimated restoral time, they said nothing from the power company and only ETR was 11pm. I said I had been monitoring the outage on my phone with Dominion Energy and had seen the outage for this area go from being 500 + to down to 40+ in the last hour and stated I assume they would come back online too, they were oblivious to you could even monitor these things. There was no offer of anything to encourage us to come back/re-schedule celebration. I was really shocked that a place I normally really like handled this so poorly.
The power went out while we were dining but management handled it very well.
Overall it was a good experience and we enjoyed the food. Our waiter started off strong - quick drink/appetizer orders and very charming. However after the initial orders, our server never came back to the table to take our lunch order or check back with us. Very odd- like he totally forget about our table. We had to flag another server or floor manager to find our waiter and take our orders. We understand that its the heat of lunch rush, but... We literally received our appetizers (from another server) and was able to finish them and sit around a good bit and before we realized that our waiter never came back.
Good experiences are the norm at this location . This was the case as well when we dined there on Wednesday night. The server was super friendly and helpful, and of course mentioned their wine club which we’ll probably join since we are moving much closer to this area. Our guest had never been to a C-H and was raving about the Brussel sprouts
If you have the time for a leisurely lunch, this is OK. A much less than full restaurant took about 40 minutes for simple lunch salads to arrive. The venue looks great and the staff are attentive and friendly. Just don't be on a schedule...
Zachary was amazing! Very knowledgeable about the food and his suggestions were perfect! He made our visit memorable.
Coopers Hawk has a comfortable atmosphere and vibrant bar scene. The wines are distinctive, and the staff helpful in making recommendations. We find the menu very interesting-options are varied and delicious variations on what we have come to expect. Definitely a worthwhile dining experience!
Love Cooper's Hawk! Regularly meet friends for dinner and wine. We always have a great time. The Ginger Salmon is my go to dish. Always delicious.
