The Craftsman Wood Grille and Tap House
Great menu with something for everyone.
Atmosphere was fun and the server, Alex, was excellent, professional and very helpful
We had a lovely time. We arrived 30 minutes before our reservation and had a drink at the bar where everyone was pleasant and willing to help. We were seated in the center of the dining area which may have been a reason why it seemed loud, but everything else was fantastic! We will definitely return!
We had an awesome time celebrating a family Birthday. The service was great and the GM Trevor made great suggestions and opened up a private dining area for our group. Food was excellent and great beer selection.
After reading mixed reviews, we decided to try the Craftsman again since the remodel, and we were VERY pleased. The "spicy cauliflower" appetizer was delicious -- very tasty, and well presented in a very cool way, allowing those that liked it especially spicy to dip in additional sauce, and those that like less spiciness to just eat it the way it was cooked and presented. It was wonderful. The tenderloin was great, and the baked potato large and cooked to perfection. The lobster ravioli was very, very good -- with many large pieces of lobster on the top of the ravioli, while the ravioli itself was adequately stuffed with the delicious meat. Even the peanut butter cookie with ice cream was very, very good -- and the coffee was excellently brewed. The prices are a bit too much, in our opinion, but other than that, we were very please with our visit to the Craftsman. We'd have liked a few paper napkins on the table, but again, that's not a deal killer -- we asked for some and they gave them to us. I think we'll go again, especially if they can contain or lower their prices to Central New York reality...
We were there over Valentines weekend, so there was a special menu. The food was very good - creative and very flavorful. The French onion soup in particular was outstanding. The service was excellent. It’s a noisy place, we didn’t mind, but not for everyone. Their everyday menu is very good as well.
Stayed at hotel and had cocktails/dinner for Valentine’s weekend. Food and service excellent. Definitely recommend!
The service was awesome and the ambiance was amazing! But, my husband and I got the coffee steak and it was basically charred with no flavor. We both couldn’t eat it at all. The menu was really difficult to understand. At first we thought everything was vegetarian. I didn’t know what was meat or pasta or seafood. I would give it another try not on Valentine’s Day maybe in a regular day for them.
My wife and I had a fabulous experience a few weeks ago at your establishment while treating ourselves. We both had the filet, and a side of broccoli rabe, along with a nice glass of wine.
She wanted the delmonico, but you did not have it that night.
We decided to make reservations for Valentines Day while our kids played at the YMCA. Unfortunately, we are stuck in a corner in the back room, at a wobbly table. The room was very cold, despite the fire place. There was a limited menu, with nothing that we were excited to have, and elevate prices. Our waitress was superb, but the steak I ordered seemed to be 1/2 the size of actual strip steak, under cooked, and luke warm. My wife’s delmonico was better, but the broccoli rabe we both ordered was cold.
We didn’t complain about anything since it was Valentines Day, and very busy. We decided to chalk it up to experience, and hope the next time will be as nice as or first was. I’m sure we will be back.
Service outstanding!! Decor outstanding!!! Food was fair at most...extremely salty and oily onion soup, the charcuterie meats were very dried out...almost equivalent of jerk meats.
Not the usual for good quality prosciutto, genoa salami, capicola types of deli meats with cheese platters that we enjoy frequently!
I will say dirti martini was perfect (but NO blue cheese olives available) & breadsticks were on point!! We were so hoping this would be our new place but no...not for now.
long wait for service.
My wine glass had hair in it, the glass for my bottle beer had lipstick on it, for the price of the food, I expected a more quiet atmosphere, my guest could not hear me from across the table.
The bar-open kitchen-dinning area just was too loud.
For the price of entrees, I wouldn’t expect to have to choose between a salad or an actual side during my meal.
I don’t plan on going back any time soon.
Our dinner was very good. The quality of food was very good with excellent service. I thought the prices were high compared to other restaurants of equal quality. The noise level was very high on a Saturday night (our reservation was at 7:15). Overall it was an enjoyable dining experience. Minor renovations geared toward noise dampening and a thoughtful adjustment to prices would enhance the overall experience.
The New York Strip Steak was 80% fat.
The Salmon was rather small in portion at the price paid.
Meal was not a very good value.
Really a nice relaxing place to eat. Waitress was very good. Food very good, but unusual taste of the salad dressing on the Waldorf salad we didn’t find appealing. Also my 100 points not given to me via Open Table. Please rectify.
We made a reservation and were seated at a terrible booth by the window. Meanwhile there were tables open all night long next to the open kitchen. Service was horrible. We didn’t get our salad until 45 minutes after ordering and then our entree came out 2 minutes later. I ordered filet mignon which was inedible. Riddled with fat because I was given the end piece and not cooked to my specifications. Couldn’t send it back because the server was no where to be found. We had to flag someone else down for the check. We finally saw our server when we were in the parking lot. She was hanging outside the kitchen door talking with 4 other restaurant employees in the parking lot. Hey, we spent a lot of money....could u please do your job

Food is consistently delicious. Very accommodating with my need for gluten free. Beautiful space. Attentive service.
Thank you very much for your review. We are thrilled you had a great experience and we look forward to seeing you again soon. Trevor Thomas - Restaurant General Manager
Brunch was delicious!
Food was good but the menu was deceiving. You order a hamburger for $18 and all the things under the burger are extra. Just beware. Nice salad came with it but it is overpriced.
met a friend at this spot for a special lunch. beautiful décor. warm and inviting. the drink list and menu were extensive. we really enjoyed it
Lovely server, beautiful restaurant and delicious menu!
Reservation process went very smoothly; we were greeted timely and courteously when we arrived and were promptly seated; the waitress, Justin, was awesome!; wine is a bit overpriced and incorrectly indicated on the menu-a 6 oz and a 9 oz Cab Franc from Owera were both listed as $13; my wife ordered the 9 oz and it was actually $19; the food was excellent and was delivered quite quickly; noise from the bar was a bit loud, but tolerable; all in all, it was an enjoyable date night
Beautiful local restaurant. Took my wife of 22 years there for the first time and was extremely pleased with everything. Great variety in food and wide range of prices for all budgets.
They had a meeting when there was 4 tables. No one was left to bring us our food so it was cold!!!
Love the restaurant. All very good. Cons; Noisy. Prices a bit steep!
Casual dining with a very loud room. Maybe not for a romantic dinner but it was just right for a birthday fun night with my wife.
Good food. Steak was cooked rare instead of medium, but did not send back. Otherwise rest of food good.
Place has been renovated lately and the ambiance is pleasant and the decor is nice. Service was excellent and attentive. Made reservations and sat immediately. Food was very good. The grilled octopus appetizer was delicious but it had more potatoes that octopus. Slightly priced high and a bit noisy. I will return and recommend to all.
It was a busy night however, we never felt rushed. The food was excellent ,drinks were brought to the table quickly and overall the service was great! I highly recommend the Craftsman Wood Grille.
Another great meal. Thank you Shayna and Trevor
We were warned about the service, but we wanted to give it a try. It was the worst service we experienced in a very long time. Many of us have worked in the industry over the years and are very sympathetic when it gets busy, but that wasn’t the case at all. Plates and empty glasses/dishes were never cleared, our appetizers remained on the table until we left. My husband actually put some stuff on the floor during dinner time because we didn’t have room on the table-we had 6 people total. We had to ask other servers for a refill on beverages, and the list goes on. We were there from 730-10pm and the place emptied out. It was truly shocking and very unfortunate this nice restaurant operates this way.
Wonderful, wonderful restaurant housed within a local Inn/Hotel - a favorite among locals, especially after it's recent renovations.....great food and a great environment. That's why the place is crowded most every night - one of the best places for a meal in the Syracuse area.
The Craftsman never disappoints. Food was great and the atmosphere was perfect for girlfriends get-together.
Second time at the craftsman and it was a great time. First time I went I was annoyed to say the least. This time the food was great and the new GM stopped at our table multiple times. We will be back!
Great food, super generous portions, can’t wait to go back!
I work up and down the east coast taking customers out for dinner. This one is in my backyard and I didn't even realize it. After one experience it is now one of my favorite new spots. The food was excellent, the decor and ambiance is the best I've seen and the staff was so attentive and wonderful! Thank you for a beautiful night out with my love.
I’ve been to the craftsman a few times before but tonight was different. Staff was engaged and the manager Trevor asked if everything was perfect, which it was. He introduced us to Leon and then made the Chef look over and wave. We had a great night, can’t wait to go back!
Mice and quiet when I got there at 5. Staff sat us immediately and our waitress came immediately after. We had our drink in front of us within 5 minutes of walking through the door. She was patient with us as we requested a few samples of wine. The complimentary bread with apple butter we had while waiting was that of my own mother's tastey goodness. We had the cauliflower as an appetizer and it was truly amazing. We had our dinner within 5 minutes of finishing our appetizers. I wont get into details of exactly what we had, but my fish plate and my wife's steak meal was just the right amount of food to still have just enough room for one of their crafty desserts. Extremely great place for date night or even just a drink at the bar.
We were seated immediately at our reservation time. Water was delivered and then it was a full 10 minutes before a server came, and only after we asked! She was terse then and through all our interactions. We could have understood a delay if they had been busy, but this was 5:30 on a Sunday evening and it wasn't busy at all. The food was delivered in a timely fashion, and was good but not great. Portions were not large and prices were high. The total for the two of us was $114 before tip, with the only alcohol being 2 beers at $10 each. The pricing here was comparable to several local fine-dining establishments with excellent and elegant food. Servers wore jeans with aprons. As the restaurant started to fill up, it got noisy, partly due to the new open-concept style all the new restaurants seem to favor - there's nothing soft (rug, drapes, anything) to absorb noise and no partitions to capture it. We will not be returning here. For this kind of money we could have had better meals and service at high-end restaurants.
Great food, service, and ambiance. Perfect for an intimate date night, or a gathering of family and friends. Definitely my new favorite!
Even with 6 bartenders "working" and not a super busy bar ( we actually had seats at the bar), it took over 5 minutes for anyone to acknowledge the three of us. Two were talking with one another, another checking their phone., two other people drying glasses... The couple next to us left because the didn't get waited on.
This has been the case nearly every time we visit the bar - several people "working" but taking a very long time to be waited on.
Food was good, service was great !
