A uniquely special dining experience enhanced by a quintessential Oaxacan vibe. The food was out of this world, service impeccable, and completely unpretentious.
Went for a family Sunday brunch; we were seated in the patio, surrounded by a colonial vibe.
Menu is short but you can find enough options to try local food. Presentation, quality and flavor are exquisite while maintaining the original dish spirit.
You will feel the warm by the staff since entering through their kitchen and until you leave the house.
Excelente restaurante!! La comida deliciosa, mucha amabilidad, buen ambiente y unas bebidas deliciosas!! Felicidades! Da gusto comer en lugares así!!
Dissapointed about the service....
Food was fantastic and great value for this price.
Excellent, inventive food and lovely patio setting with a gorgeous garden.
Overall it was pretty good. I really liked all of the savory courses. I mentioned it was our honeymoon. It was a little annoying when they sat a really obnoxious party of six right next to us in an otherwise empty dining room. Other than that the service was friendly. It was louder than I thought it would be. Still definitely worth checking out.
It was not as good as we had hoped. The service was inconsistent, the food was good, and the atmosphere was nice.
Excelente ligar,atención y comida
Really fun, tasting menu makes you try things you might not ordinarily order. Delicious!
Always a relaxed and fun meal. Thank you
Everyone there was super accommodating :)
We were a 15 people friend group for brunch and all staff and food worked for us.
Pricey and nothing “wow”... food is ok, much better options out there to taste real Oaxaca food.
Very expensive. Overpriced food. The food was ok but nothing to write home about.
Seven course prefix meal was wonderful. The waitress was delightful and explained each dish. It was a series of test sensations from start to finish. The restaurant but it’s open or courtyard is a delightful environment. It was a bit cool that evening and saw the restaurant provided shells for the women and blankets for the men. All in all, it truly delightful dining experience and heartily recommend it
I had an amazing solo birthday lunch at Criollo. They were so accommodating with my mostly vegan but eat fish but no shellfish requirements and adjusted the tasting menu to suit me. Everything was so fresh and delicious. The local flavours were bursting through in every mouthful but not over-powering at all. I also tried the 2 cocktails of the day and they were the right balance of everything. Definitely come here to get spoilt by the wonderful people at Criollo
What a lovely experience dining at Criollo. From the moment we walking in - we felt welcome and warm. We didn’t know before arriving that it was a tasting menu only restaurant - which kind of bummed us out because initially we were only going for a quick snack. I wish this information was given to us upon making the reservation. Our server Ivan was one of the best, super warm, friendly, and giving us all the information we could possibly need. The food was well curated and the drinks we both had were great! We enjoyed most of the dishes, and respected how much care went into creating them. We got a tour of the grounds and even got to sit in their back garden for dessert! Service slowed down once we moved because I feel they forgot about us for a bit. But they were extremely thoughtful in that when they did remember we were there, they brought us some bug spray for the mosquitos. Would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Oaxaca. Definitely the classiest experience you’ll get throughout the city. Thank you to the team at Criollo for everything!
This was our second time at Criollo and it did not disappoint! This time time we did the beverage pairing with the tasting menu and it was fantastic. I would highly recommend people go and try it out. seating in the patio is wonderful. Loved it!
Una experiencia maravillosa
Recommended by a friend from Oaxaca. The food and service was excellent! I’ll definitely return on my next trip here.
Outstanding food, service, space, ambiance. Definitely will be back and try the breakfasts. The chef Luis captures the love in Mexican food, making you warm in the heart and in love on your palate. It was the best dinner in a long time. Thanks to all at Criollo!
Great brunch and amazing atmosphere! Definitely recommended
Especially enjoyed the chef table in the kitchen
¡Gran sabor, gran servicio!
I would recommend, but with some reservations. This is a very expensive restaurant for Oaxaca, and the $1,090 prix fixe does not include drinks. I was charged an extra $20 for my agua fresca, which just seems cheap to me. And, my dining companion and I were asked to share two tiny--and I mean really tiny--starters. Really, there was only enough on each plate for one person to enjoy, briefly, and trying to share ruined the presentation. Again, cheap. Especially for that high price! But the seven courses that followed were really good, not all to my taste, but all interesting and some delicious. The service was impeccable and that sophisticated space a delight. My complaint with the ambience was the noise. This restaurant is on a busy street and in an open courtyard, so there's quite a bit of traffic noise--which is not great for a fine dining soundtrack. I asked if we could move somewhere quieter and we were quickly accommodated to the bar, but that was also noisy, this time by loud music. I prefer more relaxing surroundings when spending so much money.
A fantastic experience not to be missed. Exquisite design of grounds and gardens. True foodie heaven. No detail left undone. Wonderful.
Service was a little too fast but slowed down for the last two courses. Food terrific. Better than I remembered last year. We had the tasting menu both times.
Excellent food and fantastic service. Outside seating was really nice and you could observe the cooking. Best Oaxaca food experience we had.
Great Mexican food with a modern twist. Friendly staff and good service. Definitely worth a visit!
We were not aware that only the chef's 7-course tasting menu was available during the afternoon period. Normally, we prefer to eat less. Nonetheless, nearly every dish was delicious and extremely interesting in the choice and combinations of flavors (the dessert was so-so on the day we ate there). The portions for each dish was small, so the entire meal was manageable. The chef uses a lot of local ingredients, and the menu changes constantly. FYI, there is a small selection of Mexican wines (no wine menu) and beers, but good ones. At the start of the meal, we were told that one of the entrees would be chicken (the other was fish), but when it came time to serve, they brought us a dish of sweetbreads instead of the chicken. (It seems they ran out of the chicken.) I didn't mind, but others were not happy with the sweetbreads. All in all, though, it was a great experience and a lovely meal, paced well and with very good service.
Great environment. Spacious and relaxed dining. Stylish situation and design. Good food but perhaps disappointing for the price - as the menu changes daily I wonder whether the delicacies in flavour and the depth the dishes could achieve are lost here. Each course was just alright without any particular wow that I’d expect for a 7 course tasting menu, especially at this price.
Best dining in Oaxaca!!
Highly recommend the drinks pairing - super fun with cocktails, wine and mezcal!
Friendly service and very good food. I didn't realize that they only have a chef's menu for dinner so glad I got there just in time to have brunch, which had a good number of vegetarian options. The setting is calm and beautiful. I really like the tortilla de huevo that I had.
