Absolutely incredible meal. Mexico is full of amazing restaurant and this is at the top. Living in Mexico City and San Francisco, I eat at a lot of the very well regarded spots, and I think this even tops Pujol, Quintonil and Californios.

Comida simple, servicio lento, cero ambiente
The food was nothing to write home about and the service was bad. We were forced to take the tasting menu without previous notice, which was not an intrinsic problem. But, we’ve had tasting menus in various restaurants in many countries and this one was very below expectations. The timing for the delivery of the plates was either super slow or too fast: the second and third plates took forever to arrive and the sixth and seventh plates arrived at the same time. The soup was almost cold and the plate with octopus didn’t have octopus or maybe too little. These are just a few problems. I could list many more, including having to request a mezcal twice! Anyway, they have lots of problems to solve and the value for money is extremely low for the moment. I sent a similar comment to them via their website and nobody has bothered to answer, at least so far.

The food didn’t have any flavors, however wine and cocktails were really good. I would recommend this place only for drinks. The food is not worth it, so expensive for what it was, not even in term of quantity but flavor wise. However the place is beautiful. Overall the service was good, all the waiters were really sweet and knowledgeable. Loved the blankets they gave us when we were cold. To give an idea a tasting menu (which you have to order since there is no « à la carte » option) was around $1700 with 3 small drinks per person. I found it to be expensive for what it was, especially in Oaxaca.
No era lo que esperaba. La comida no tenía nada de sabor y estaba fría. Entiendo que hacía frío pero deberían de calentar los platos. He visitado los restaurantes del chef Enrique Olvera y esperaba que fuera de la misma calidad. Un menú de degustación de 7 tiempos en donde dos son postres y una papaya con chocolate malísima! El lugar esta bonito pero es una decepción llevar amigos del extranjero y encontrarte con esta sorpresa.
We came really excited to try out one of Enrique Olvera's projects as he is considered by many one of the best chefs in Mexico. What we got was a very mediocre experience, not worthy of it's fame. We paid $2000 pesos per person for a 7 course menu and drinks. Most of the produce we ate came from Ensenada (our hometown) and it quickly became evident that they didn't understand what they were serving. Every course was a downward spiral of bad design and bad execution. From under-cooked fried esquites and crackling dry gorditas (these should be warm and tender). The only thing worth saving was their cacao infused water and the avocado tempura. We thought we would enjoy an interesting interpretation of the Oaxacan cuisine but there was nothing in there to suggest any kind of bond to the local culture. In the end you really question yourself how these people acquire all this fame if all they deliver are disappointing experiences. Sorry Criollo.

I have gone to criollo 6times because I loved it. Today I was so disappointed it hurts. A great concept completely trashed and made ordinary.
My husband order the menu with beverages and they were giving you half cups of wine and less than a drink of mezcal with half a beer.
The desert was half guava, so lame and ordinary I was ashamed with the friends we brought along
It was our place for celebrations
It seems that they want to recover with the clients today, taking advantage of them.
This is the first time I don’t feel it was worth it. I hope they can understand that people are in Oaxaca trying to help activate the economy. They should honor their commitment to quality. We told the waiter and he was like oh sorry, but he did not offer any resolution.
So sad to see a good concept feel like a ripoff.
Criollo really got the Flu
If you want good food go to Casa Oaxaca they never let you down.

Everyday they change their menu and it's 7 different plates. Overall it's good. We had gone to Destialado before which is very similiar food. We liked El destilado's food much better, but the ambience is nice here.

Absolutely AMAZING! Best meal I had in Oaxaca City.
The concept was brilliant and I'm happy that I got to experience Criollo, but I was a bit confused with the actual dining experience itself. Not sure if it was because of covid or the time we were sat, but our experience felt very rushed. While service was personable and friendly, the food was coming out way too fast - all in all, we were sat, served and give our bill.... in 70 minutes. Felt a little unnecessarily rushed.
The setting is wonderful and so is the presentation of dishes. However, when it came down to delivering on taste, I fear they fell quite short. There was nothing spectacular there. Certainly creativity and the use of local ingredients but nothing special. I was looking for an explosion of flavor with every bite and as I kept looking for it dish after dish, I finally gave up.
Definitely a great deal of potential but not there yet, and definitely not for the prices they are charging. I do hope they will become the restaurant I want them to be; a top restaurant in the country.

What a surprise and find. Their food is special and fun. Didn’t want the experience to end with the beautiful tastes, top quality products, and inventive twists to local dishes. Our waiter knowledgeable and helpful. Exquisite pairing of increíble Oaxacan alcohol products. Simple elegance. A place that is good because I was already thinking about when to rerun while I was still eating.
NOT WORTH IT :( Went here really excited about trying a restaurant by famed chef Enrique Olvera, but I am sad to say, it was not worth it at all...
Competition is fierce in Oaxaca when it comes to food. You can literally go to the market and have a feast for no money at all. So when you go to an expensive restaurant by a top chef in a place like this, you’re expecting something that will blow your mind. Sadly, the experience didn’t even come close.
The food lacked creativity or innovativation. The taste of most of the dishes was pretty bland, nothing made me go “oh my god this is incredible...” not to mention, their portions are more fit for a minion than a full grown human, so I was still hungry by the time my 6th and 7th course arrived. (Btw, they counted a tiny sip of atole as one of the courses :/).
When visiting you’re better off going to a place like “Los Danzantes” or “Casa Oaxaca” where for half the price you will have an experience that will delight all your senses, leaving you with a full stomach and a smile on your face.

Una buena comida es aquella que va más allá de los sabores. El menú de degustación: ¡riquísimo! Se destaca por los ingredientes típicos del estado y por lo que nos dijeron, se reinventa constantemente. Con la música, lograron hacernos sentir en casa y el hecho de que el lugar sea una sociedad entre gastronomía y arquitectura lo vuelve mucho más interesante. La atención: ¡impecable!
Definitivamente regresaríamos en nuestra siguiente visita pues solo nos hizo amar más Oaxaca.
