Very good food and service. Dined on the patio.
I Chose the Cajun haddock lobster special, which was delicious, my mate had the sesame salmon and said it was excellent. Staff very attentive and kept us dry and laughing while dining on patio in the rain. Would highly recommend and look forward to coming back next time I’m in Portland!
For $33. the duck breast should be tender not chewey. The Brussel Sprouts were delicious.
Our family was driving to Bar Harbor Maine and decided to stop after reading all of the great reviews and description.
This restaurant is in a sad and unkept area. After we parked we saw walkways with trash and sadly aggressive homeless gentlemen yelling at each other. We continue to walk to the restaurant (was less than 300 feet)
We were greeted and seated with little regard and enthusiasm. Our waitress took over 7 minutes to acknowledge us. We asked her for the wifi password and she said in an irritated tone “you can go ask the hostess”. We should have left then.
We put in our order:
Cokes hardly had ice, warm
Burrata (heirloom tomatoes NOT and burrata was dry)
Calamari (ran out)
Clam chowder (was more like corn chowder)
Margarita pizza (crust was undercooked)
Filet mignon (this dish was for our daughter we asked for the steak to plain without vegetables or sauces or butter and unsalted fries) WE got the steak with broccoli a huge slice of butter on top of the steak and over salted fries that were inedible.
Please do not stop in Portland Maine to go out of your way to eat here. The service was awful, bathrooms are disgusting, and food was mediocre.
Excellent food. Haddock was excellent. The ravioli was delicious. Desserts cheesecake and ice creAm sandwich were delicious.
Good food at reasonable prices. Very convenient location with excellent, friendly service. Good and varied menu.
Exceptional all around. We had the calamari. The clam chowder. The lobster roll. The open face lobster ravioli. All a triumph.
Though the food was good (not great), the prices are hard to ignore. $35 for a lobster roll (served on a bulkie) plus a $3 upcharge for fries is a bit much. A burger, grilled chicken caesar salad and a lobster roll w/ fries was $90 before tax and did not include any type of drinks (alcoholic or otherwise). OUCH!!!
We had one of the best meals I’ve ever had as well as some of the best service. It was the best experience!
Great drinks. Beretta cáptese salad was very delicious. The open face lobster ravioli was phenomenal. Our waiter Nelson was very helpful and knowledgeable. Overall, this was a great experience. I would return.
Lobster ravioli was excellent. Filet mignon was poor. Rubbery filet. Lardons were way overdone. Service was very poor. Inattentive. Would not recommend.
We had a great dinner at David’s. Our meals were delicious and the portions were generous. The kitchen accommodated my dairy allergy, and the waiter was friendly and knowledgeable about their menu. We will definitely come back to David’s.
Appetizers were good. Brussels and the dumplings. Garlic knots were not completely cooked, dough was partially uncooked. Salmon entree was unremarkable. Service to bring food was good. Service to pick up dishes and bring the check was painfully slow. Finally had to get up and take our server the check and ask if he could please take it.
Wow! what a delicious dish: Open faced lobster ravioli. One of the more memorable dining experiences of my lifr. Clearly the town is responsible for outstanding seafood, but the sauce and the pasta? Davids was a great surprise to this tourist, but likely a local haunt to anyone who knows good food. Delicious
We loved everything about this restaurant! The ambiance is wonderful, the food delicious, and the service outstanding! Our bartender/waitress, Erin, could not have been nicer! My Old Fashion was one of the best I’ve ever had. The meatloaf lived up to the reviews I’d read, and my husband’s seared ahi was great too!
Cobblestone street approach can be challenging
No vehicular traffic. Once inside the charm of this building dating back to 1800’s is everywhere
Friendly staff. Mussels unique and excellent. Linguini in white clam sauce may be best ever. Signature drinks are delicious
Hostess squeezed us in and seated us at chef’s table.
Entrees were great. Nice plating, well prepared and flavorful.
Dessert options were limited and unimpressive. Ordered the creme brûlée. Thin in quantity, loose texture and top did not crack with a spoon.
We had a great server (Madelyn)! She steered us toward the open-faced lobster ravioli, which was excellent. We also had the fried calamari, very good as well - unusual preparation made it better than your average version. Husband and i split both dishes. Started with "glass and a halfs" of chardonnay (La Crema, i think), followed by the same amount of a cab sauv (not good) and a Cote du Rhone. Were considering dessert, but nothing appealed (i was in the mood for blueberry pie, but it wasn't on the menu :( )
The food was just excellent. The chef has some nice twists on seasoning and the dishes were well prepared. I had Calamari snd my wife had burrata for starters. I had meatloaf for main course and it was incredible. I don’t know what all the chef put in it but my mother’s was never this good. It became a high end dish. My wife had peppercorn seared tuna which was also excellent. Our waiter was efficient and helpful too.
Our dinner at David's was amazing. Everything was perfect, food, drinks and staff. We picked David's because they take reservations for inside and outside seating for any party size. We will be back next time we are in town.
Food and service we excellent ( thanks Madeline!) Really nice experience- would definitely return!
Everything was fantastic. We sat immediately upon arrival and service was attentive the entire visit. The lobster ravioli is fantastic
We were visiting Portland for the day and saw reviews were really good. Unfortunately even though the restaurant was pretty empty it took well over an hour to get our food. My sons burger was kind of raw but my fish sandwich was really good. The homemade chips were cold and didn’t seem fresh. There are a lot of street people who walk by and just hangout on the nearby benches so it was a distraction. I think we just had a bad day and this meal took 2 hours out of our already short day. Also the lobster roll was crazy expensive, 36.00!! It’s 22.00 back in Boston!
First time here, outstanding service with a very extensive menu with lots of outstanding choices!
Wonderful food! Nice ambiance. Very good vegetarian options.
Waitress was great and helpful. Sign of a good restaurant - they changed the silverware for the main course. One negative - they should serve bread.
Best dinner restaurant we went to in our three night stay in Portland. Sat at the chef table so we could watch all of the cooking and talk to the chefs. Highly recommend the salmon or haddock and crab entrees but EVERY MEAL looked very good.
This was rated very high and we were not disappointed. We had a great meal, one of the best ever actually. I had the seafood ravioli and my husband the salmon. The drinks and food came fast and the staff was super cheerful. I would definitely go back next time in Portland. Book your reservation EARLY!
Vacation with friends in Portland
Great food. Love the garlic knots. Great service as well.
Caesar Salad, potstickers, meatloaf, all excellent! Service was a little slow but just think the kitchen got slammed. Overall, a terrific meal.
This visit was a bit disappointing. The garlic knots were ordered as a starter were underbaked - pale and doughy; the garlic butter they were tossed (rolled?) in just made them greasy. The rest of our meal (burger, beet salad, scallops) was okay, but not as good as previous visits. Server was friendly and efficient. Hoping this was just an off night for the restaurant as we have had many great meals here in the past
Pretty nice place. Happy hours runs from 2 to 4pm. I would not recommend the open lobster ravioli since you only get 1 small piece of lobster. The haddock is delicious but the blueberry sauce was over powering for the dish.
Very disappointing experience. Service was very poor, had to flag down someone just to put orders in. Food mediocre. Worst part was that our waitress up-charged us for a “glass and a half” of wine when we only ever ordered a single glass. When we asked to her change it given we never ordered a glass and a half and it wasn’t our fault that’s what she may have brought us, her response was “well, you drank it.” Disappointing and not coming back.
Outstanding service and exceptional food choices. Very nice wine list and fun signature cocktails. The ice scream sandwich for dessert is to die for!!
I will be back ! Highly recommend
Just the first in-dining experience since 3/2020 and it was excellent!
Food and service were excellent. We both had the meatloaf dinner for lunch. This is the second time that we have gone to David's for lunch while in Portland and we will definitely do so in the future.
Fantastic food . . . fantastic service. What a great little find in Portland, ME!
Was expecting more of a “special” experience given the reviews. Not special at all. Food was fair, service was very spotty but they were also training. Not going to harp on this now since so many places are trying to get up to speed with help these days but it it wasn’t great. Three of us had the duck which was decent, but one of the dishes was totally medium vs MR which they said it was their standard. I won’t be back. Over priced for what we got. Wish it were different. Maybe ok if you just want pizza.
