"I love the relaxed feel of this place – like a comfortable dining room in a friends home. I definitely would return to try more dishes. "
A wonderful experience as always. I always sit outside because the noise level inside is too much for me.
Prior to this visit, I've only eaten at Decoy in the evenings (about 8-9 times). I chose the mahi mahi tacos of lunch nd was so disappointed that a restaurant like Decoy produced such a poor version of the fish taco. It was very dry, the sauce was practically non-existant, and the veggies inside were minimal. The tortilla itself also seemed very dry. I guess Rubio's has us all spoiled.
Waited a long time to be seated. Forgot that they had already checked us in ?!? Only had 1 menu for our party. Food was subpar when it came out - crispy chicken salad was “chicken nuggets “ no peanuts . Never came to refill my water . Waited FOREVER for the check .
Expensive small food portions but good. Beautiful light show on lake.
It was Valentine’s Day and they were serving a set menu, after 1 hour we weren’t even served our first course. They comp’t our drink and gave us a gift card but for valentines we were left hungry and unsatisfied.
Valentines Day
Great for special days. wonderful environment. Display of hearts on water wonderful
Excellent service! Great pace. We really enjoyed it
Four of us dined on short ribs, clam linguini and scallops on a cold Monday evening. Loved the entire experience.
I'm not a fan of the loud restaurant craze that everyone else seems to love. It did quiet down later in the evening, but we were shouting to each other at our table. Food was good and service started out good, but then our server disappeared. I think this would be a good place to go during off hours when it's not crowded.
Family reunion. Haven’t been there since it was the Quail Inn. Fabulous new space! Excellent views and fun laser light show on the lake. Very well done. Excellent food and beautiful atmosphere! Don’t miss it!
My mother and I ate a fantastic breakfast while enjoying the morning sun hitting the lake. Our waitress Harris provided excellent service. Nice and open dining area, beautiful views, great service, and the best company. What more can a person ask for?
Love this place. We've dined here several times, upstairs and downstairs, and it's always a good experience.
Discovered this gem only 12 miles from our home! They brought In a new chef from Rancho Santa Fe (smart move) and the food is inventive and interesting. Ask for Max as your server; he's the perfect combination of warm and formal (important balance in fine dining). Try the spicy Shrimp appetizer!
A little pricey..but nice atmosphere..and great service
Here was my review for restaurant night dining (Saturday night, 7pm reservation- didn't sit down until 7:30):
Starting with the positive, the food was GREAT! When you pay premium prices for food, though, you expect the service to match that. We waited so long between every course (including ordering to the first course) it was ridiculous. The server seemed oblivious to this. When we received our main course, one person had the sides cold but did not want to wait any longer so just ate it. Then for dessert, they ran out of one of our choices so the choice became ice cream. We had 2 people get ice cream which when it came out was 2/3 of the way melted in the bowl and served on a warm plate. The waiter did notice that and went and got them new ice cream. It should have NEVER been served. There was a table of 12 behind us that sat down after us and were finished about 25 minutes before us. We love being with our friends and did love the food, but were not planning to be there that long. One couple had a babysitter they were late getting home to.
Our server Eric was great. Food was very good. We were there for Restaurant Week. I’ll definitely go back.
Max was the best of everything. His service was the best thing of the night.
Food was ok not impressed with the appetizers. the hostess not very friendly and seem a bit inexperienced. The sirloin steak was pretty good. Dessert ok. Ambiance a bit noisy.
BEAUTIFUL location, delicious food. Highly recommend the hash!
First visit to Decoy. Wanted to try it out during the San Diego Restaurant Week. It was quite a surprise-everything was excellent! Will certainly return.
Went for Restaurant week. Atmosphere was nice and cozy. Portions huge but not good at all. Wedge had 3 quarters but hardly any dressing. Potato was overcooked and tough and the steak, which was 10 dollars additional seemed like it was cooked in a suvi and came out gray with slight grill marks. Not good. They were having a huge party for dinner....may go back but wont be first choice for sure!
Noise level is distracting. Jazz music too loud . Acoustics in room with high ceiling and hardwood floors contribute to noise levels. Carpeting floors would certainly make is cozier and quieter.
We went there for an early morning breakfast. Sunny and bright. Wall to wall windows. The views were awesome except there were no shades so the sun was blinding at any table. We were the only people there the entire time. That's a red flag. Our service was ok. But the food wasn't. We ordered an omelet with fruit and toast. Seriously dry omelet with no flavor. Fruit was not ripe. The butter on the toast was the best part of the $30.00 meal. Obviously, we will not go back or recommend this place.
Came to Decoy for the BEST New Years Eve we have ever had! The food was absolutely amazing, the service was perfection and it was so fun to have live music during dinner and then a DJ for the later part of the night. Decoy did a FANTASTIC job!
Our server was really the best part of our NYE experience. He was so friendly and really made it a great dinner for us. Everything we had was absolutely delicious and what a great setting in San Marcos!
New Years eve pre fixed menu was so good. Laid out well, cooked to perfection, well seasoned and overall great presentation and taste.. entertainment was also very good.. Great night awesome experience
This is turning out to be one of my favorite places to go.
I would only rate this experience is the ambiance. What a beautiful setting. However, for Christmas day brunch we were really disappointed in the food. It was a normal Sunday brunch menu. Yeah there was prime rib and shrimp but most everything was very bland. The bakery items were dry. I would have liked to see a nice french toast and/or a Belgium waffle bar.
This was our first time at Decoy Dockside and we enjoyed the experience. I was disappointed that it was a holiday menu (Christmas Eve) and we couldn't order off the regular menu. Although the food and service were very good/outstanding I felt that the price was out of line for what we received. Two of us had the airline chicken and two had the short ribs. The total bill (including three glasses of wine total) came to $470.00. $117.00 per person was high for this type of menu.
Unfortunately, their website showed a Christmas Eve brunch for $39 per person when I booked our reservation for 7 people several weeks ago. When we arrived, there was no brunch. Lunch only. Very disappointing.
I took my boyfriend on Sunday for his Birthday Dinner then off for a Gondola Ride to look at Christmas lights. We arrived a bit early but were seated anyway to a nice table near the windows. Another waiter came up and told us we could not seat there because it was reserved, When the hostess promptly moved us to another table. Our waiter was disengaged and not very attentive. I had to ask for bread and what the specials were. I only new there were some when I overheard the waiter behind us telling his party the specials. We ordered the Salmon and Rib Eye Steak. The salmon was to be sushi grade in the middle but when It was brought to our table it was cooked through. My boyfriend ordered the Rib Eye, medium rare and at 43.00 for a very thin cut of meat, it was cooked to medium well. I would try this place again possible for lunch. But there are many more places to go and spend 154.00 for two with much better staff and quality.
We like this place, but the restaurant should update their menu online to match their current menu. I looked online for certain on trays, but upon ordering we were told they didn’t have the items.
Great Fri eve date for my wife and I, we got dolled up and left the kiddos at home. Ha! It's our 2nd time experiencing dinner at Decoy Dockside. Now I know why we went back, great atmosphere, customer service, and the food was incredible. I went w/the 8oz prime tenderloin and she had the searee scallops, both didn't disappoint...highly recommend each. We sat upstairs and got to take in the lake light show, Christmas lights up around the lakes houses made for a great view as well. Our next visit will be brunch, heard that's spectacular too. Be good crew and see you soon. Cheers! -KZ.
The food, atmosphere and our server was incredible!
I enjoyed the evening. I didn't quite understand the Thanksgiving menu... it wasn't made clear. But the food was good, and the service was very nice.
When we entered, the waiting area was covered with empty glasses and drinks- dirty napkins and trash. We were a little apprehensive.
We went for our Thanksgiving dinner - I think we must have arrived after the main dining tine or in between. Room only had a few tables occupied - lacked a good atmosphere- felt cold. People had their coats on.
Turkey was only so so. Have had better. We ordered at the same time as our drinks and our meal came first. A little too fast for it was luke warm. Recommend ordering from the menu in future on Thanksgiving. Not recommended for turkey dinner unless you came for the buffet. I think we enjoy this place better in the summer.
Perfect way to start our Thanksgiving! Great food! Excellent service!
Great atmosphere & service
Dinner was outstanding, service was outstanding, setting beautiful!
