Doc Crow's Southern Smokehouse & Raw Bar
Good but not great.
Tasty food and quick service!
We went because it was highly recommended online. We were happy with the food quality and the service but the portion size was disappointing. My husband and I eat very little so we don’t expect much. Paying $5.00 for a side of spinach with our $16.00 half rack of ribs - we expected more than just a few bites of sautéed spinach. Additionally, the stuffed potato with pork on top was quite skimpy for a full meal menu option (very little pork). We shared the three items but were disappointed in the portions for the price. Fine/Nicer dining venues are usually more generous than our experience here. We would encourage the restaurant to take a look at their portions for these things and be a bit more generous. Otherwise everything was fine.
The best Po’Boy you will have outside of New Orleans hands down. The bread is genuinely French bread from New Orleans with flaky bite on the outside and chewy inside. I had the fried shrimp Po’Boy and the shrimp were perfectly prepared.
Food is great- service is a little slow- wish parking was better...
Stopped in for lunch after a tour of the Old Forester distillery. Surprisingly uncrowded for a Saturday lunch window. I had the Docs Chicken which was excellently cooked and seasoned. This is my go to menu item when I dine at Doc Crows. My dining companion had the Classic Burger which was perfectly cooked. We split a side item; the grits. They were delicious, as usual. Would recommend Doc Crows to any diner.
Fried oysters were excellent. Oysters Rockefeller were very good. Heap’n Chips were excellent. Pulled pork sandwich was just okay. BBQ chicken was excellent. Service was average.
Great food, great atmosphere, great staff! Definitely will be going again.
We enjoyed it. The food was good and staff was very hospitable.
We enjoyed a great meal after a basketball game . Our reservations were at 5:30 and they were able to take us promptly . The food was hot , well presented , and lived up to everything we could have asked for . Our server Christine ( Sorry if it is Christina ) was outstanding , as was all of the staff . Definitely a do again .
The service was good. Food was sub par and over priced. The ribs weren’t good at all. The brisket was sub par. The pulled pork was average. The best thing was the heap of chips but had VERY little brisket on them. The cheapest part of the meal, the grits, were the best part.
Great oysters, pulled pork and tacos! It can get quite loud.
Service was terrible
Blacked catfish was awesome. Green beans too salty. And oysters Rockefeller was average.
Overall we had a good experience. The server or the bar one were very slow. My fried ordered a second drink and it was at least 15 minutes for a bourbon on the rocks. The server was nowhere in sight to remind. The food is always good but a couple of missteps, I ordered my salmon blackened on my salad, did not come that way even though it was very good. My friend asked if they had a barbecue sauce that wasn't hot and we received a very curt no. They were not busy so it was unusual for the slow service. Never the less we enjoyed the food and the atmosphere.
Service was excellent. Accommodated a large group in a timely fashion. Easy to make a reservation.
We came here not really knowing what to expect and were very impressed! I looked at the menu before had and was excited to try the ribeye, however it was marked out of the menu, while I was disappointed about this, I did LOVE everything else we ordered! Definitely recommend the mussels!
Great time with friends
I had been there a few years back, an after work celebration for a co-worker’s 21st. tonight was my grand-daughter’s 20th and we wanted to do something special.
The old fashions were great. The bread-pudding was warm, sweet, and good ending to the meal.
We asked about the fried green tomatoes, which we saw on lline and was told they didn’t have them. Disappointment #1. The spinach salad was so dry, we thought they forgot the dressing. Our server did bring us some.
The girls loved their Bubba burgers and complementary cheesecake. My wife ordered the baked potato with butter and sour cream. It was a little dark, not the usual white you expect; like a warmed up left-over. Our server did take it off our check. I ordered the wings, mild; they were so hot I managed to eat one. My oyster Rockefeller was good.
Hopefully it was just an off day for the kitchen.
Service - server was excellent!
Had a group of 8 come in with a reservation. The service for the group of 8 was stellar, and the gentleman who served is had a fantastic friendly and positive attitude. Food was delicious too- i got the southern style chicken sandwich with a side of bourbon honey- and it was amazing!
Frequently visit Docs before Yum Center events. Always excellent food and reasonable beer and cocktails. Brisket is excellent always. I've never been disappointed in the food but tried the.chili for the.first.time. Best chili I've ever eaten with brisket of course!
Shrimp and grits were amazing. I will definitely go back.
Great food and atmosphere.
Service was quick and friendly. Food arrived in under 5 minutes. I always order the pulled pork sandwich. Good Que. I love their fries. So well seasoned and they arrived pipping hot. My only suggestion is that the barbeque sauces and ketchup containers be wiped down occasionally. They were very sticky!
Good food great service
Food was great and outstanding bourbon menu!
Food was not anything to write home about and service was not very good. We ordered raw oysters to start which never showed up. Our entrees came (ribs and brisket) with one of 2 beers we ordered . We cancelled the oysters and reminded the server about the other beer. The second beer arrived mid meal and then another that we didn’t order-we pointed this out to the server who then took one of them back and served it to an adjoining table a few minutes later.
A fun vibe but lacking on several counts-we have found better food venues and the ribs and brisket were not very exciting
Doc Crow's is always our "go to" spot when attending any events in the Yum! Center!
Derby pie and bread pudding AMAZING!! Not to mention a fantastic bourbon selection.
Great food and great service. Our oyster po boys were outstanding, oysters were cooked to perfection and the home baked bread was delicious.
Food is always good. For whatever reason it always takes at least 10 minutes to get a drink from the bar to the table.
Brisket. Ordered “with as much fat as humanly possibly per slice “. Sadly got a very dry lean stack of brisket. Service was amazing as usual and place was packed (again as normal). But it does come down to the little things...
The brisket is a bit of a game of tug of war with our customers. Some are like you (and honestly myself), then we get complaints about it being too fatty (is there such a thing??). Apologies that you got the wrong end of the spectrum! Your feedback is valuable, as we've been adjusting our brisket process in the last month or two, so we very much appreciate you leaving a review. Keep on asking for all that fatty goodness. Hopefully next time we'll have it perfected to your preferences!
Fantastic food, definitely a lively crowded bar scene
Thanks so much for the review, Deena! We're so glad you enjoyed the energy :)
This is my can't miss place for when people are in from out of town. It straddles the nice/casual line perfectly. It's in a cool part of town, on Whiskey Row two doors down from the Old Forester Distillery one way and a half-block from the Yum Center the other. I've been there 50 times and it hasn't missed once.
We're so proud that you include us when showing off Louisville! Thanks so much for taking the time to leave such a lovely review - we look forward to having you in again and again ;)
Something for everyone but uniquely Louisville. Best shrimp and grits in town and I tell everyone. The Could Be Cursed cocktail is our new favorite tiki/rum drink. We will be back.
A bit pricey. Good quality food. Portion sizes on smoked meat sampler was surprisingly small. Fresh oysters good but $3 EACH was crazy-my bad not asking Market Price. Good bar selections. Slow service. Restroom out of toilet paper-on a Thursday at 7 pm
Excellent atmosphere, wonderful food & drinks. Excellent service too!
The oysters and ribs I ordered weren’t anything special, very average. Service was slow even though the restaurant was almost empty.
