Don Francesco Ristorante
Good food and the owner is very friendly. Will come again
Exceptional Food, Atmosphere and Service. great location, parking garage across the street.
Hotels within a block, along with the Convention Center, Cruise Ship Terminal, Skytrain, Ferry to North Vancouver.
Our only surprise was low population on a Saturday night. Food was great. It is a grat location. We suspect busier when not winter months. We would not hesitate to return, even in such a grat restaurant city.
Overall the restaurant was acceptable. The food was okay but lacked flavor and seasoning. The ambiance was nice and the server was good but only one server trying to cover the entire restaurant and server as bartender too. He was doing a commendable job but the result was diners were being neglected. The restaurant has a long history but it felt like it was relying too heavily on its past. While it may have original recipes there is a certain art to the preparation that was lacking.
The place was extremely under staffed (only two servers and perhaps the owner, serving the whole restaurant that was almost full), the lobster bisque is runny but with clumps of starches in the soup, the halibut that I ordered was way over cooked (it's chewy and tasteless), , and the food came really slow and took 2.5 hours to finish 3 courses.
The food was acceptable but the service was so terrible that we would not recommend this restaurant or go there again.
Restaurants that participate in Dine out vancouver is either a hit or a miss. But this one is definitely a total disaster.
It was a dine out night and when I arrived, I saw a group at the door waiting. I thought it would be pretty packed in there since it’s dine out event period that’s why people have to wait for their table. But no. When I got closer and had a better view of the restaurant, they were only 10% full. The reason they couple in front of me had to wait is because no one was being the host to greet them. My friends arrived before I did therefore they already sat down in the main dining room. It is a very big and beautiful place. The decor and settings are all new.
So my two friends and I started to look at the dine out menu. All of us chose the lobster bisque to start with. The color of the soup was not something I expected and the taste was bland. It was like something that came out of a can. But at least I had a piece of lobster meat inside.
For main course, I chose the the angus strip loin steak. I thought it would be very safe. I ordered my steak rare. But when the server brought me my plate, he said to me “sorry but it is very unprofessional to ask, but can you cut thru your steak to see if it’s rare?” At this point, I know this would be the only visit to this restaurant. With the server standing beside me, I cut thru my steak and it was well-done. He took it back into the kitchen and after 5 minutes, gave me what I ordered. The server started saying he knew the kitchen made a mistake because it seemed like four other people ordered steak, so the kitchen may be confused. They can mix up 4 orders, and there were only 5-6 tables of customers. Then the server started hinting the kitchen is incompetent and he’ll make sure everything coming out will be okay. So I started eating my steak and when I’m almost half done, the server came over and offered fresh ground pepper. Well, no thank you. Dessert I had the tiramisu, which was unbelievably bad, soggy
Rough experience, they were short staffed, but they did the best they could
The greeting at the door was less than pleasant and the service was disorganized and poor
To make things worse it seemed that the head waiter would go out for a smoke in between service bringing back the fowl smell of cigarettes
The kitchen was so painfully slow we almost walked away thinking that we might not ever get our main course
The tables had a weird stain finish that didn’t seem actually finished and was sticky and to possibly cover this uncomfortable situation the restaurant used folded napkins as placemats rather than proper placemats or table cloths
When ordering from the bar we were informed that there wasn’t a bar tender that night to make the cocktails so could we just order wine instead
When the food did eventually arrive it was hot and tasty
So at least they had that
The place even though fairly new is stuck in the 90’s
The portions could have been just a touch bigger for the price charged
The deserts should be avoided as they are very avg
It seems the restaurant is severely understaffed or they have had a mass exodus and the staff they do have need severe training
All in all there are a lot of Italian restaurants with the same caliber of food so after this very bad experience I would not go back !
Our waiter was working super hard but they were sadly, dramatically understaffed for a Saturday night. Our waiter had to go behind the bar to mix drinks too. Martinis were just average, Mussel appetizer was absolutely delicious, pesto chicken linguine entree was tasty but about 3/4 of an entree size, Osso bucco was tasty but Tuscan beans on the side were blah, creme brûlée dessert was bland and brûlée was way under done. With two more people working on the staff and larger portion and attention to the details on drinks, sides and desserts, the restaurant could still return to their former glory. I sure hope they do. Used to be our favorite restaurant in Vancouver.
Waiter communication skills lacking
Lack of attention to details and Service very slow - dinner took long time to be delivered and two of four meals were cold. Had to send back; after asking waiter for bill and waiting 5 min had to ask another staff member to get the bill Ordered double express with twist of lemon. Came with two lemon wedges. Ordered dessert for table came with one spoon.
Had to retrieve our own coats as there was no host at the entrance when we left
Very good food and service! Very nice patio and italian options!
It was disappointing if comparing to the Don Francesco from previous location. The service was awkwardly weird. Waitress did not have the table ready and was on the phone while serving us. Therefore she did not bring all of our water since she only has one hand. The wine we order was hidden somewhere instead of beside our table. The food was requested to have no olive and she insisted she put that down on her request given she commented on how she does not like olive as well. She did not realize about it when bringing us the food until we picked all the olives out. She did apologize but didn't do anything except starring at our food for a long quiet moment. I was really looking forward to this fancy lunch and thinking to come back to try other food. Now i hesitate of bringing another friend for this experience.
Although our waiter was kind, generally the staff seemed disorganized and inconsistent with service. I suspect the management needs improvement. Food was not bad but not great. I won’t return and can’t recommend.
Wonderful dinner! Service was very good, and food was excellent. Location is so convenient to Canada Place! The restaurant decor is absolutely beautiful. We have been to this restaurant before, this time brought friends from
Palm Springs, they loved it. We will be back!
Great food. Strange, loud and constant music. Really really odd selection of martinis many of which include fruit juice and are named after the most obvious pop culture Italian references.
We were greeted and were directed to our table right away. Sean served us and even made the wine selection for us. Food was amazing and the service was great we were not rushed and the atmosphere was very relaxing. Thanks Sean, Anna, and the chef.
Will definately be back. Brilliant.
The food, service and atmosphere were all excellent! The owner came out to talk to us. He added greatly to our dining experience.
The restaurant was scheduled to open at 5:00. We made a 5:15 reservation. At 5:30 the restaurant had still not yet opened. We have no idea of the food or the ambience, because we didn't wait around to see how long it would take them to get up and running.
All the food we ordered tasted delicious and the portions are just right for an Asian woman, so you end up satiated but not too full to proceed with the rest of your day. However, considering the cost, the portions were rather small.
Well, they have a history they are trying to live up to, and I don’t think that they are quite there yet. The previous management/ownership, had set quite a high bar on all the ratings categories. For the quality of food and the price point, I most likely won’t be visiting again for lunch any time soon. I am not price averse but it has to be relevant to the quality of food- my companion ordered wine by the glass (it was lunch after all) and he was pretty sure it had been opened at least one and perhaps several days before and mentioned it to the waiter who offered to change it, my companion declined and tried it anyways, the second glass he ordered appeared (tasted) to be a fresh bottle. So good marks for service- seafood linguine was fair at best , burrata Caprese salad was small for 18$ calamari streaks appies was fair but once again I am comparing same dishes to previous owner/operator product, which was very good. Previous iteration of this restaurant had different pricing for lunch VS dinner - this one has the same pricing and it is probably a bit pricey for lunch. This may account for the restaurant only having one other customer (table) at lunch time when I arrived 12:50)
I have been to this restaurant in the past for lunch and it was very good. I wanted to celebrate my son's university graduation with a family dinner at Don Francesco. It was a Tuesday night and it was very quiet. There was probably no more than a half a dozen tables. I made reservation through OpenTable and mentioned it was a celebration. A reservation would not have been needed. The waiter was good but the selection of entrees were not. We had a party of six and 3 of the entrees we wanted were not available (Lamb Rack, Osso bucco, Veal Chop). When the entrees came, 3 of the dishes came out and we had to wait at least 5-10 minutes before the other 3 entrees were brought out. I did send an email to the restaurant but did not get a reply back. I cannot believe that they did not have the meat entrees available. The waiter did not mention the availability before we ordered and had to come back to let us know. How can a restaurant run out of things on a Tuesday night at 5:30pm. I was very disappointed in the overall dinner and would not recommend this restaurant.
We waited for 1.5 hours and the food never came
Made the reservation. Apparently they were fully booked for a private dinner. I felt like I was in a Seinfeld episode: You can make the reservation, but you couldn't hold the reservation.
I have been to this restaurant before at its previous location, so I was excited to try it again now that it is closer to my office. SO DISAPPOINTING. I remember the service being outstanding with great food.
The restaurant is lovely inside. We were a bit early for lunch at 11:30 and were the only customers. Both of us ordered lobster bisque. Strangely it had 2 prawns in it (not chunks of lobster). It was okay. My companion clearly didn’t enjoy it as his bowl looked basically untouched. The server didn’t ask if everything was okay when he took the bowl away.
I ordered the sable fish. The food took so long to come! Restaurant was basically empty so not sure what took so long. While to fish was okay, there were many bones (at least a dozen) so the preparation was terrible. When the server came to clear the table, I pointed out all the bones and said that he should let the chef know.
The bill was brought, no apology from chef, we paid and went on our way.
I think this was disappointing for this caliber of restaurant and I wouldn’t recommend it.
About as good as it gets. We spent just over 4 hours over dinner We shared some appies and everyone was thumbs up for their dinner and Jack's attentive service. The white tablecloth dining room has a mountain view and an outside deck. There's craft beer and a lengthy wine list starting around $45. The restaurant can be accessed totally undercover from Skytrain/Seabus. It's near the seawall, convention centre and cruise terminal. Best find for me in quite a while.
The food and service were definitely not up to par with the old location.
Our dinner at Don Francesco was fabulous! I had the chicken Parmesan. The chicken was so tender and the veg that came with were cooked just right and so tasty. My friend had the pasta carbonara and she said it was very tasty. We both just about licked our plates clean! This restaurant has moved from up Burrard Street to Cordova by the waterfront. A much better location. Everything is new and the atmosphere is wonderful! I would go back there again and again and could highly recommend the restaurant to everyone!
Service was horrible.
Very quiet, great service and delicious selection on the menu. The tiramisu is always one of my favourites.
Amazing! Was excited to see the restaurant had reopened in a new location, but worried I wouldn't like it as much as their Burrard and Robson location. Total upgrade! I love it. Better than the previous location. The food was so delicious - both the spinach salad and the butternut squash with mushrooms were absolutely divine! The service was attentive and we felt very welcome. Great for business meetings and for private lunches... nothing bad to say about this place. Well done DF team!
David was our waiter, he was outstanding, very attentive, professional. Pasta was cooked perfectly, thoroughly enjoyed my Kale salad. The focaccia bread was so fresh. Cant wait to go back again. Beautiful setting.
The food was excellent like the old
Don Francesco at Burrard Street. Really
I was missing the old service. The old from
the heart service. The Italian service! But then we are not in Italy are we!
Went to Don Francesco after VIWF seminar , easy walk and nice open feel at restaurant.
Food was better than ever , veal chop , veal picatta , and carbanera all fabulous. Perfect way to cap off the evening.
Great place. Daniel and Sean provided impeccable old fashioned service. Food was superb. Veal picatta was the best I have ever had. Everything was very tasty and done just right. Lovely location, quiet (without the stupid head banging bass music that many restaurants think we want to listen to).
We will definitely make this a regular go to spot.
Just great to find such a superb restaurant. Full marks all around.
excellent food good service and wine, has not lost any thing in the move
It’s was amazing food, great service, and a nice setting.
It is good to see Don Francesco's opened again. I prefer the previous address but this room will be fine once they finish "warming " it up. There is also plans for an outdoor patio for warm weather dining . We were greeted warmly by the Maitre d'. Our server, Dave was very pleasant and efficient. The food was good but not great. I had an Italian sausage pasta and my wife ordered Halibut but they were out of Halibut so she chose the salmon. The wine list is not very extensive but we did find a tasty Amarone. My only real complaint was the horrible music that was playing too loudly. I expect an upscale Italian restaurant to play some good old Italian tunes or something calm and peaceful.... We will return again in a few months and see how they are progressing.
Lousy service, had to wait 5 minutes before someone actually got to the front desk to seat me to meet my business dinner party.
Lousy food and lousy service
Lobster Bisque soup was nothing to die for
There are better Italian restaurants out there then this
As the resturant just relocated they seem to be still getting used to the change. Otherwise is was an acceptable experience and the waiter was excellent.
