Dot x Ott
The service was very good. Tim our waiter was very helpful and was covering a lot of tables. The food was very good. It would have been nice to have more misters on the patio since we wanted to be outside instead of inside because of the virus.
The staff at Dot x Ott took very good care of us. The food was delicious and my date, who is an elite Yelper, was impressed. I didn't make reservations for the patio, as I was unsure about the weather and my date's preference. Since it was a nice day, I asked to be seated there. Another party had reserved the patio, so they asked if I would be willing to move, and gave me a free drink. They didn't have to comp me a drink. I didn't ask for the patio, and the other party did. It's nice that they made it up to me, even when they didn't have to.
The food was delicious. I had the short rib and my date had the Scottish salmon. We both enjoyed our meals. The portions were perfect.
Their homemade sangria is also very good. I like that it's not too sweet. Sangria can often be sickeningly sweet. There's is balanced and full of natural fruit juices and whole pieces of fruit. Highly recommended!
Overall, this is one of the best restaurants in town. Their menu changes often, so I'll probably come back every now and then.
I love Dott x Ott. Such a cool local place. I have been there several times. Always enjoyable. Food is delish. I love the charred veggie bowl. It is my favourite. So yummy. The ambiance has such a 'this can't be Bakersfield vibe" (I love Bakersfield BTW). Last time we were there, was before a concert at Mechanics Bank Arena. Very busy. So glad we made reserveations. Wait staff worked their a$$'s off. So many choices on the menu. It is different. Seasonal choices. I love that they utilize local vendors. Wine. Fresh veggies.
A must try! You’ll be a returning customer.
Great food, great service and nice wine offering. Good value for the quality and flavors.
The whole was greater than the sum of its parts. My whole family greatly enjoyed it, and some are not easy to please. The food is coarse rather than refined farm-to-table: simple preparations, but well executed from great ingredients. The best dishes, notably the hummus and pita (it was beet hummus, which I didn't expect to love) were true delights, and everything was tasty. Most of us are vegetarian, some don't eat dairy either. There were plenty of options for us, and the staff checked for us and adjusted. I gave only a 4 for service since the staff were quite busy so we had to work to get their attention (the restaurant wasn't full, but I'm sure many potential servers were on vacation between Christmas and New Years.) I called ahead to say we'd be delayed due to road conditions in a snow storm, and the staff told me not to worry. Indeed, a table was waiting for us when we arrived very late. On reflection, a "5" for staff would be warranted. We ordered drinks from the huge and distinctive selection of sparklers (made with seltzer and syrups) and enjoyed these much more than typical sodas.
The restaurant has a shop with really cool culinary supplies to take home (drinks, refrigerated stuff, sauces and pickles, etc.) I enjoyed browsing them, and we bought an almond-milk yogurt my non-dairy-eater had never seen before, and loved for breakfast the next day.
A lovely surprise in Bakersfield, for a Bay Area foodie.
This is a mixed review, as there were strengths and weaknesses. First, it is very exciting to have a new restaurant in Bakersfield that is farm-to-table. I came up for business and wanted something that was focused on fresh, creative food. The god was good, however, a few of the items our waitress promoted ended up not being available. The restaurant ran out of oysters and our waitress suggested a mussel dish not on the menu, which we were excited about, and three of us ordered it. But they didn’t have it, ultimately. There was live jazz, a trio with a great saxophonist, whom I chatted with after dinner. The only problem is that the industrial space is an echo chamber, so the music was extremely loud and was very disruptive. I think the concept of this restaurant with market and the connection to a family-owned farm is fantastic, but there are definitely some kinks to work out.
