El Centro - Dedham
If you want to be able to hear conversation at your table and talk without losing your voice, I'd recommend arriving earlier rather than later. However, the food is amazing, and our server was FABULOUS! Super helpful and accommodating. I especially loved the tableside guac (freshly made right at your table). It was the creamiest, most delicious guacamole I've ever had. Totally worth the splurge. Also this seems to be a very popular place to celebrate birthdays, and why not? You get to wear a gorgeous sombrero from Mexico. It just makes it a little more fun! Highly recommend El Centro.
Nice restaurant. Food seemed cool... not very hot. Ambiance nice.
I made a reservation and upon arrival we were given a prix fixe menu. There was no indication there would not be a regular menu tonight so we left without eating. The waitress told us “it was all over our social media page we have a prix fixe menu tonight” —well I’m sorry but I don’t follow El Centro on my social media so how else was I supposed to know that? We went next-door to blue ribbon barbecue and had extremely delicious meal and amazing service.
Had a holiday special menu which was unknown to me when I made the reservation. Food was good but too much. Just felt rushed by our waitress - She never explained that we could get one of the special dinners and share it . But watched as others did just that. Will try once more on a regular evening.
Our group of 5 enjoyed our meals very much. At the end, we were surprised with churros and a birthday candle! We will definitely be going back!
My experience is quite the same as others have noted. Nice atmosphere, good location and decent food but really bad service. Was there on a Friday night and place was almost empty yet about ten service people just hanging out around a long table looking bored and unhappy. Since our waiter literally disappeared mid meal (never to be seen again) we had to constantly wave someone over to get another drink, order, or get check. No one welcomed us as we entered restaurant nor acknowledged us as we left.
It's too bad because food was quite good but place is obviously poorly managed. Unhappy employees, dead poinsettias in mid January, and missing host/hostess shows plays is poorly managed. And fact that place was empty on a Friday night tells me this place will be gone by end of year.
We tried El Centro for the first time on Friday night. We were looking for a fun Mexican restaurant for family dining. The place is nice and casual. The food is average - not bad, but nothing special. I thought our server was engaged but not overly helpful. Overall, this is an average type of place for family dining.
Sitting at the bar was great. The tables were crowded and very loud. I’d sit at the bar every time.
Food is not great here. Ambience is good
This place is great for a quick bite, or a group outing. The service was excellent, and both the food and drink menu have numerous options. We will definitely be repeat customers.
The service was terrible. Took 25 min for someone to come over and give us water. We had to ask 3 times. Everything was so slow. We constantly had to wave someone down if we needed something. The food was terrible. Our tacos were cold. We used to go to the one in south end and loved. This was so disappointing. We live in the area and we’re excited to have this restaurant open. We will not be coming back.
Great food awesome guacamole and chimmy
Excellent and very pleasant service. The food and drinks were delicious! We will definitely come back again!
Food was some of the best I have had in awhile. Our waiter was extremely nice, but it seemed like they were still getting used to being a new restaurant. Menu and atmosphere were great, parking was surprisingly difficult-took a really long time to find a spot.
The food was slightly more mexican authentic, No fajitas, drinks were ok,
..waiter was. S. L. O. W. And not very attentive. My first time there and probably my last time there.
It was way too loud! The acoustics are terrible and the noise gets even louder when the guacamole is being prepared tableside. The noise level ruined the dining experience.
Food was very good as well as the service. Second time we have had dinner at El Centro. Would recommend
The entrees are well paired and so flavorful, the drinks are incredible, this is one of our favorite spots. That being said it is a very busy place and if you are looking for a quick quiet meal this is not the place.
First time in and was disappointed. Had to wait for the table, wasn't a high top as requested, and incredibly noisy. Lots of big parties with screaming kids. Kind of a crummy Friday night dinner date (this was an 815pm reservation). Food was just meh, maybe good for a party, likely won't be back.
Great food and drinks but it’s always way too loud inside. Cannot hear waiter and every is yelling.
Food was good. Service was good but impersonal. Tables were so close together it was not pleasant and the noise level was so high that we couldn’t wait to leave.
Overall great meal with great service
Quiet evening. Very good drinks. Pork taco was very good, fish taco was average.
Our server was lovely and I was pleased to get a nice high-top table. The guacamole was delicious - hand-made in a mocajete right beside the table. But ... it was very loud, quite chilly, the person making the guacamole didn't seem very happy and had a TIP basket on his table, and the fish in my fish taco was hard and very fishy.
Friends liked their meals. So much to commend, but also much to fix. I'll try it again in about a year.
Went for a birthday dinner with kids and the service and food were both wonderful! They accommodated our large party and food allergies. Thank you!
They did not have my OpenTable reservation, however that was not an issue at our dining time. Service was spotty, had trouble tracking down our server when we needed things refreshed or to pay our bill. Food was good and fresh but not great.
Loved my food - chicken mole enchiladas. My friend got the chili rellenos with pork and her first bite was all fat which turned her off to the rest of the meal sadly. The waiter was very attentive and helpful (although didn’t do anything about the pork when my friend mentioned it). We sat outside which was nice but is mostly a view of the traffic. I would definitely go again. Margarita was great and a generous size.
Drinks: Coconut margarita was great, the Mezcal Mule was undrinkable--it had a chemical flavor to it and was nothing like tequila mules that I have had in the past
Guacamole and salsa: Okay--but disappointing seeing how the guacamole was made at the table, the chips were stale.
Entrees: Mole sauce was too sweet, one of the entrees was cold in the center. It was reheated and came out better.
Overall: The service is average, the ambiance is okay. OpenTable said there was no availability at 6 pm. We got a reservation at 5:45 pm and looking around after 6 pm there were only a few tables that were filled.
Tried El Centro for the first time. Loved it!! Fun trying different tacos with a multitude of flavors. Service was superb!! Will definitely go back soon.
This was our first time there - and one of us has already returned 2 days later with other friends! Food was outstanding. Best chicken mole I've ever had in any restaurant in the US. Also LOVED the refried beans - great texture and wonderfully spiced - nowhere else comes close.
Sat down and didn’t have anyone come to the table for close to 15 minutes. Kind of set the tone for the rest of the meal. Table side guacamole was good. Everything else was ok. Not a lot of flavor. Server was just not attentive. Won’t go back
Main course came out before appetizers and drinks!
Service super slow!! Seems like they are understaffed. Ordered table side guacamole, but the guy made it over by the kitchen, dropped it at the table with no chips…hard to stare at homemade guacamole with no chips!! No utensils, had to ask 3 separate times…dinner entrees took too long - my quesadilla was not hot and quite honestly seemed much smaller than the last time I went, did they run out of regular sized tortillas?? Lastly, ordered the churros for dessert; the owner or the manager brought to table, after he left, noticed that one of the containers of sauce was given to us basically empty- do they not look at things before they serve?? Really love the atmosphere of this place- want to love it but quite honestly- don’t think I’m going back for a while- too many other places to try.
Worst waitstaff I’ve ever experienced. Our waiter was not good and did not know anything about the menu. He messed up the drinks, erased our orders from his electronic ordering device and brought out 3 meals at once and didn’t bring the 4th for another 8 minutes.
The food itself was very good but the service was so bad, I would not go back.
Excellent food. Inside was quite noisey, outside was nicer although cars beeping is your ambiance. Overall was quite enjoyable. A bit pricey.
We were a party of 6 with two children (ages 11 and *) on a Saturday night. The food was very good, and the guacamole was delicious, and always fun to see prepared at the table. The service was very good as well. It was our first time and we'll definitely return.
My hope for Great Mexican ... FINALLY.. in Boston's burbs.. Was shattered...one word... Awful
Really nicely prepared food and very reasonably priced. Nice spot.
