El Torito - Dana Point
Came for my mom 63rd birthday always a good experience great food
Great food, service and location.
Labor Day Evening — the margaritas were the special and worth the trip. The food was good as usual, but the service was a tad slow that evening. I don’t know if the kitchen was short on help or if there was a rush on takeout. The only bad thing, since the food was slow, was that we over indulged in the chips and salsa — so we left really stuffed.
We went on a Sunday at around 11 am. We didn't know that it was brunch only but decided to stay. It would be great if there were other options. Service was horrible. We had to clear our own table of the used plates...I picked them up myself and put them on an empty table. Our server seemed scattered...maybe overworked....but was flustered a lot. She finally saw that I had bused my own plates and she said, "There was supposed to be a bus boy...."
The food was only so-so. Things weren't hot enough and the food, in the brunch, should be labeled. My niece and I are vegetarian so didn't know what had meat in it.
All was good but the window facing the water was quite dirty from the inside.
This restaurant is very dirty. Dirty torn carpet. The seats and floor around our table were dirty with food and chips. Food was okay. El Torito needs to clean and fix this restaurant. What this location has that the staff is super friendly.
They charge a surcharge? What is that? The Manager had to come out and tell me the reason: "since we make our food from scratch and not cans." Seriously? That's laughable. Food was sub-par; poor quality. I'd say maybe it DID come from a can? We'll never know!! Avoid this place...
Taco Tuesday! Seated immediately.
Waitress was really kind and worked hard for being under staffed.
Location needs some improvements inside such as carpet upgrades.
Host sat us right away. Open table worked great.
El Torino @Dana Point is 50 yrs old and looks it. Needs some serious remodel refreshing.
We go there on occasion when in OC. Quality is degrading but still average fair. Another CA chain bought out and raided by investors that are closing many of their outlets. My guess is El Torito will shutter this operation in the future. The past with waiting time reservations on a weekend and evening have disappeared. The harbor restaurants all have diminished quality, branding, and service.
I like everything but the restaurant was sooooooooooo DIRTY !! With So many employees everywhere things should be clean. Smelt felt and looked dirty floor to ceiling. Especially the bathrooms 🤢 everything seemed dingy well warm.
Always great Mexican food in a great atmosphere
Thank you for the nice review!!
Came in on Taco Tuesday. It was delicious! And great price.
Thank you for your five star review, i'm glad you had a wonderful time at taco Tuesday!
my first time and it was fantastic!!! I will look forward to my next change to go back!!!
Thank you for the raving review, hope to see you soon!
Great place to enjoy family visiting here from Kansas
Our service by Marcus was excellent. Will definitely return and ask for Marcus.
Bummer at El Torito tonight. Restaurant was understaffed anticipating a slow night on a Friday night. Not a good sign. We were seated right away but our server was running everywhere as he was spread very thin. We were left in the corner all night. Server came over for our order only. Food came out not as ordered, cold, and bland. Clearly sat in the kitchen for a long time. Food was not prepared table side as the menu described. The salsa brought to the table was tomato water from the bottom of their bucket. We did bring it up to the manager who comp’d the entire meal. Honestly really bad food and mediocre service. A complete fail.
Amazing views of the harbor while you eat. The staff goes above and beyond to get to know you and give exceptional service. Each table gets house made tortilla chips and salsa to enjoy at no charge while you look over the menu.
Good service. Food disappointing and we’ve been many
Very large parties in the room and service was slow but the waiter was doing his best think they need more people need to remodel get rid of that ugly carpet
Bathrooms were gross and place needs a revamp. Carpets were ao dirty and worn you almost couldn’t see the pattern.
Food was good. Service was friendly and appropriately attentive, although servers seemed to be very busy.
Cathie, thank you for your feedback! We are in the process of renovating to improve on these issues. I'm happy to hear that you enjoyed the food and service. We hope you join us again soon!
Family dinner from out of town
unfortunately, when we arrived for our reservation at 5 p.m. there was a sign on the door that it was closed for maintenance. We could see people through the window inside, and finally someone came to the door and told us there was a fire earlier and it was closed for approximately 4 hours. We were unable to dine here that night.
Have Come here every year for my moms Birthday, this year on her 77th Birthday, we had reservations and were turned away due to an inside issue. Gas leak, yet NOTHING to show any evidence of such. Watched them carry towers of chairs inside, not out of the restaurant. Was there an issue or was there something else going on??? SOOOOO DISAPPOINTED, She was handed 2 ,10 coupons, REALLY?!?!?! I cant believe the amount of time and money we have spent here and THIS is how we get treated?!?! This ALL after walking from the back of the parking lot, NO Disability spots (She is disabled, fighting round 3 of cancer, and a heart attack, SHES 77!!!)because the front lot is reserved for Valet for the restaurants we want to go to. To then have to go to the Brigg... DEFINITELY NOT WHAT WE WERE WANTING. So so sooooo Disappointed.
Shannon, i am very sorry to hear about your experience. We take great pride in making sure that the safety of our guests and staff come first. Unfortunately we had to close the restaurant due to an emergency safety hazard. We would have loved to have your family here for her 77th birthday, and i deeply apologize for any inconvenience you and your family experienced. We completely understand your situation as we do not like to close one of our restaurants for the entire day.
Celebrated Fathers Day. Had made reservations ahead of time, but when we got there, they wanted us to sit on the overflow area where the hostess stand was. We refused so they took us inside. We thought they were booked but there were at least 50% availability of the tables. That is the reason for a 4 star. Otherwise Lily was an excellent server. The drinks were pretty potent and great! Enjoyed our visit!
Woman’s Lounge was super dirty no Tp and sit covers in both restroom were missing.Super disappointed for Father day, you should check it every 15 to 30 min base on reservations, told employers and said ok and stood there speaking to each other, I’m in customer service, I would NEVER do that to my customers ever, all employees should be cross trained! If I had it my way I would have went to a different restaurant. First impressions are everything.
Place is getting to expensive I remover when they you to change $23 for Sunday brunch. Reservations weren’t on point got their at 10:30 am waited to be seated till 11am. While people that didn’t have reservations were been seated first.
Although we did not get seated until 11am with 10:30 reservations, it was Father's Day and the food and service made up for it.
Fantastic service. Restrooms are in need of a good cleaning. The view is amazing! The food was great.
We had a horrible experience. Our server messed up my son's meal twice, he never removed any of our finished dishes from the table. We never got a refill on chips n salsa. He took so long to get my husband a fork that my husband got up and got it from the manager, who picked it up and handed the fork to my husband from the side you eat off. My husband was so disgusted by both the server and the manager that he never touched his plate of food. I had also put in special request that we were celebrating my husbands 45th bday. They did not sing happy bday, but they did at other tables and we were never asked if we wanted dessert. We will never eat at an El Torito again
I use to love to go to El Torito in Dana Point and be on the harbor. This restaurant has gone downhill. The floors were filthy, the walls look dull and need a fresh coat of paint, the work stations looked dirty. The brunch was NOT at the same level it has been in the past. Looks just thrown together. I got a cheese enchilada and it had NO CHEESE. They ran OUT of waffles, which s what the kids wanted. Everything looked dull and lifeless. The food was NOT that good for the price. Moreover, they now have a 3% fee added to cover the cost of the "harbor expenses" WHAT? The BRUNCH was already $29.99 for beans and eggs? It's not a good value for the money. And the restaurant needs a complete update and over-haul! I would not recommend this restaurant.
I can't believe this restaurant charges a 3% service charge to offset wages. I heard of places doing this and I personal believe it is insulting. I would rather them raise the prices 3% then see a 3% service charge on the bill. I just took it out of the tip. I tipped 3% less. I still commend this restaurant but can't get over the service charge.
Food missed the mark for sure for a cost of $30.00 per person.
Mother's day brunch. Food was great, so many choices we couldn't possibly get to trying them all. Great choice to please everyone. Was it worth $30/person? If you can put away 3 plates worth, I can't!
My husband's birthday is May 5th so of course Cinco de Mayo. I booked this online since we live out of state, but I won't go back.
Service was mediocre, both of our orders were wrong, and the food was just ok. My husband got a carne asada burrito. The chunks of meat coming out of there, was not carne asada. They were huge pieces of fat. It was gross.
Needless to say, I felt bad for taking him there for his birthday
Great location and the food was decent. Service was horrible but I believe they were way under staffed. Carpets are old and worn out. In need of a some work.
I had a reservation at 6:30pm on Tuesday, The hostess was very rude when she took us to our table it was dirty and I politely asked her if we could get it whipped down she rolled her eyes and walked away, after waiting 10 minutes I asked a busser, he said he would be right back, waited another 10 minutes and he didn’t come back. Thank god the manager was around our table I asked him and he did it him self. The server was not on point, it took us 20 minutes to get a drink order in and he wasn’t attending to our table in a timely manner he was gone for most of the time. Luckily the manager was around again and helped us out. The management there is amazing but poor working staff. Something needs to change there.
My all time favorite restaurant! Our Server was absolutely amazing. I arrived late for my reservation because I ended up sick on my birthday and the restaurant still accommodated us. We had a booth by the window with an amazing view of the pier and the ocean. I was feeling so unwell but as soon I got into the restaurant I was feeling so loved and welcome I was able to take my time and relax with my family on my 30th birthday. This El Torito will always be my favorite place to celebrate on all major holidays.
LOVE THEM SO MUCH!
The location is what makes this a good pick. However, I had made a reservation and we were by the kitchen and the tables by the windows were all open. Very disappointing. The waitress was very nice, by a bit too busy to be able to meet our needs. We'll go back because of the location and the prices are affordable.
The positive; The food and the service was very good. The food arrived quickly. The iced tea and the beer were ice cold. The view of the marina is very beautiful.
The negative; The restaurant is in desperate need of some loving care. There is a strong mildew smell when you walk in, the carpet is very old, bare, stained, and worn thin, and the booths have definitely seen better days.
Even with the negatives, we will still come back!
