I've been going here since it opened in the 00s and the food and service are consistently very good. Staff turnover is low, in the front and the back, which is the mark of a good joint.

Covid so we were spaced out it was pretty quiet great decor I thought the pizza was amazing others had wings they were good one had a sandwich it’s was good over all I would recommend them for there pizza

Outdoor seating right on 9th st is extremely loud with truck traffic and buses idling during the day (lunch, in this case). Not recommended! The food was subpar; I had a $16 salad that had three pieces of arugula, and a lot of dressing, canned beans, and tomatoes that were overripe/grainy. The chicken was well cooked though. I know it’s not the standard for this restaurant because of Covid related financial challenges but I don’t think they should compromise quality for menu variety.

These folks are just consistently the best. Outstanding service, wonderful food—Sicilia pizza and garlic bread. Excellent wine. Beautiful decor and top notch cleaning to keep everyone safe. I did indoor dining and will most definitely be back.

Great pizza and service

Ella's Pizza was okay ... I had heard great things about the pizza here and it was good, but nothing to write home about. The frozen drinks were really good though, especially on a HOT day! We sat outside even though we were in Phase 2, as when I made the reservation on Open Table, that seemed to be all that was available ... when I went to use the restroom, however, I noticed there was a family eating inside. It was very hot and humid. The server was very attentive and courteous. The biggest downsides were: (1) the buses stop right in front of the restaurant and sit there for about 10-15 minutes, running the loud engine, spewing exhaust fumes and heating and are very LOUD so you can't even converse - NOT good t all! (2) the disgusting waterbugs start running all over the place after dark!! I was screaming and trying to get away from them ... would have stayed longer having drinks but I was freaked out!

Without a doubt the best sausage pizza in town. Got the wings for the first time ever. Excellent choice. Their salads and pastas are always fantastic.

But really, you’ll come back for their outstanding staff!

I was sitting outside during the protest going on so it was a bit noisy. I’ve had their pizza for takeout and it was very good. For this reservation, I had eggplant rolls and chicken wings plus beer. All were very delicious. I was happy they were open for dining.

Our family ate here while on vacation in DC. Each family ordered a different type of pizza and we all loved our food. We went on a weeknight and it wasn’t very busy so we got our food pretty quickly. Service for drink refills however was slow. I’m so glad our hotel recommended this pizza place. We really enjoyed it.

Portions not very big. The tortellini app was ridiculous - it had very little flavor (and it was the item we were most excited about from the description on the menu) and they served 5 tortellinis - $2 each! The brussels were delicious and the rest of the food we all had also was very good.

It was very pleasant experience. The wait staff was courteous, fast and attentive.

I don't normally post reviews but felt obliged to do so in this case. This was our first time at Ella's and everyone in our party enjoyed the experience. No wait upon our arrival, even though the place was packed. They kept our table waiting for us at our reservation time. The food and sangria were great. Wide range of food from pizza to salads to butternut squash soup. All of enjoyed every bite. Sangria was a bit on the pricey side but we all really enjoyed it! Service was okay, but had to flag the server down a couple times for drink refills. Overall a great experience and a place that I would (and have already) recommended to friends. We plan to head back.

You simply can NOT have a bad meal at this place! Been coming weekly for years! Clean plates every time!

We LOVE Ella's food. Everything we've had is superb! Tonight was nothing different, great service and fantastic food!!! First time trying he sausage pizza, we were not disappointed. I look frwd to next time.

Dinner for 2 grandchildren before their first Capitals hockey game. Ella’s was the perfect place for this.

Ella's has great food! There were a lot of people waiting to be seated and there's not much rooom to wait. Several large groups were in house (teams) but the staff seemed to handle the situation very well. Our party enjoyed the food. We had the eggplant roll-ups and meatballs as an app and then we each got a pizza. There was nothing left on anyone's plate!

Great spot for a fast dinner before a concert. The staff was very prompt with our order on a very busy Friday night when we explained we had a show to see. It was Valentine’s Day and they had a special menu that looked great but we were in NC a hurry. So nice that we could order off the regular menu. So many places don’t offer that option on Valentine’s Day.

They did not have my reservation so I had to sit at the bar even though I had multiple opentable confirmations to show the host.

Perfect chill spot for a couple that’s not big on Valentine’s Day. Pizza was delicious and they did offer a cute Valentine’s Day menu.

We had the calamari, meatballs and wings - all three were very good. Our server was attentive but not hovering :)

It's very good pizza - I thoroughly enjoyed the meal. Service was friendly but really slow. The atmosphere is fine, nothing special - tables really close together.

Had not been in a few years and so glad I went back. Great lunch, wide variety of options and everything - food, service, and restaurant were excellent. I had one of my favorite salads and it was as good if not better than I remember!

We had a party of 12 and we were seated in a nice area but the two tables they pushed together were round and rectangular so some people almost had their backs to each other so communication from one side of the table to the other was difficult. My order was messed up but they offered a free dessert instead. Service was great otherwise. Value for food was good. Food tasted delicious. Desserts are individually sized so it is not big enough to share with more than one other person.

Love this little gem. They have excellent pizza, staff and music. I thoroughly enjoy dining here. I often order pizza to take home as well, they are always super accommodating and never disappoint.

You literally cannot have a bad meal here I think I’ve eaten everything on the menu at some point just go you will not be disappointed

Just outstanding. This was our second time at Ella's. Our first time I had the calzone and it was the best ever. Tonight I tried the good ol' spaghetti and meat balls and it was terrific, too. My colleague had the penne pasta Alfredo and he raved about it. We have frequented the many restaurants in Penn Quarter before Capitals' games. But Ella's is one of our favorites. We will be back....and back....and back.

Perfect spot to eat just before a game. Good food fast service and reasonable price. Good for kids as well. Short walk to cap one arena. Less then 3 minutes

With the exception of our server delivering the wrong craft beer (we were trying it for the first time and, when we got our check and saw the wrong name, realized we were correct in thinking what we were served was not what we ordered - the one delivered had a citrus flavor which we did not want) but we had a great experience. The server was friendly and attentive, our table against the wall was relatively quiet (although the noise increased as the night progressed), and thin-crust, wood fired pizza is delicious. Will definitely return.

Our first visit to Ella's. We are avid Washington Capitals fans and we frequent many of the restaurants in Penn Quarter but this was our first to Ella's. It was TERRIFIC. I had the calzone and it was outstanding--the best calzone I've ever had. It took a few more minutes to order because they are especially baked but it was well worth the few more minutes.

Also, I must compliment the bar tender. Most bar tenders these days do not know how to draw a draught beer. Draughts now frequently are served with no heads. But not at Ella's. My craft lager was served with a head that was "just right." Compliments are in order.

Waited awhile for our beer order. Food came out much faster but not together.
