En Fuego Cantina and Grill
We felt like the drinks were very watered down. We had margaritas and they had a lot of lime juice and very little tequila. Gave us acid reflux!🤮 We felt like we got ripped off on the drinks. The food was good, though and they had a nice singer for entertainment.
We love going there on Wednesday nights and listening to the musicians playing. It is wonderful. But the food is marginal. Drinks are good, though.
The host did a horrible job and service is absolutely horrible. They always seemed to be rushing and messed up our order. Food was good and there is a very fun ambiance.
Fried calamari was actually “calamari steak” .... thick and chewy not very good at all! Had carnitas enchiladas.... not great. Mostly sauce and not a lot of substance. Prob wouldn’t go back TBH
I had reservations but definitely did not need them. The place was pretty empty. We sat in the bar section outside and waited about 20 minutes before we were able to flag down a bus boy and he sent someone over to take our drink order even though we never received a drink menu. I had also asked the hostess to turn on the heater and she said someone would do it, but no one ever did. We hastily ordered skinny margaritas and they just were not good. We ordered our food at the same time because we were afraid that they would never come back to take our order. Food came out about 7 minutes after we placed our order so it made me think it was already prepared. I had shrimp tacos and the shrimp was tough. We finished our food and drinks and waited another 20 minutes for someone to check on us and we asked for the check. Once we got our check it took another ten minutes for someone to pick it up and another ten minutes to return it, also the place was pretty empty, definitely NOT busy. A couple sat down next to us and they eventually leaned over to our table to ask us how to order because they thought they might need to go up to the bar to order because no one had been to serve them. Poor service and ok food. I typically love en Fuego, so I’m hoping this was just an off night for them.
Great food! Service was excellent and beautiful location.
It was my first visit to En Fuego though I'd lived in the area for years. I was meeting old friends to catch up and we were seated where there were few tables and welcome quiet. The food was a great surprise since we are all Mexican food aficionados. Two of us had the Special of Crab and Shrimp Enchiladas. It was an unfortunate choice since when we have a return visit, it will be hard to try anything else. They were literally crammed with seafood and covered in a smooth and creamy sauce verde. The service was attentive but not intrusive. Our server was charming. We loved he rustic decor. Definitely coming back!
Bunch of friends
Always fun! Choose downstairs if you want to have a conversation, upstairs if you want to party.
Nice blackened swordfish taco for me and wife had a really good shrimp entree. Had a view of the water from the right seats (ours was one of them). The bar looks fun, but we sat on the deck.
Super yummy. Nice ambiance. Quick and friendly service.
Great food ,service and entertainment. I enjoyed swordfish tacos which were very fresh. Guacamole fantastic.
We were unaware that the music would begin at 7. We were upstairs but the bar was directly below us. Music was fun but we were not there for that.
The atmosphere is wonderful and the staff was very helpful! The drinks were also great and exactly what we asked for! The food was good/ok.
We discovered this place on a trip to SD area two years ago and fell in love. We had to come back again and it did not disappoint! Amazing food, amazing service — we are still talking about it days later. Can’t wait to fly back and eat there again.
Taco Tuesday- great variety to choose from.
Great little spot in Del Mar. Interesting layout in that you enter from the street upstairs but downstairs if you park in the back alley. Semi outdoor it covered seating made for a unique experience. Food selection was ample, and the staff was attentive. We had friends from San Jose in to6so this was a great place to take them for some local culture!
our server was delightful. but the food was greasy, table dirty, linens dirty, silverware dirty. too bad, a great location
Great food and service, in a nice and relaxing atmosphere.
Awesome, thanks guys - and great music choice too :)
went on a cold San Diego evening in February. En Fuego was not up to its usual standards, maybe the cold, maybe we arrived too early. service was a little slow, but the food was its normal good tasting with a spicy mexican vibe. Had one of the specials plates with fish taco, enchilada and chille rellaino.
No I would not unless you like very bland food. The veggie that came with the fajita were sliced into shoe strings which made no sense and had no flavor
I loved this place and I only put 4 stars for the service, not because I have any complaints, it was just more casual then I thought it would be. I thought our server was a busser haha he was knowledgeable though and very friendly.
I will definitely come back. Thank you for having options for the vegans of the area 🤗
Made a reservation for our party of six yet they sat us in the bar at a community table. Then added another party to the table. Food was good not great and service was the same. Not sure we will be back. Too many excellent restaurants out there these days.
Great Service nice location. The staff was very accommodating
Drinks are too expensive, but food is great.
Great service. Del Marclasdoc. Get a margarita when you go.
This is one of our favorite restaurants in all of San Diego. The staff is wonderful and the atmosphere is perfect. We have never had a bad or even mediocre experience.
Great food. No guacamole due to avocado shortage?
Michelle is ALWAYS great! She consistently provides excellent service and always with a smile! The chicken tortilla soup really hit the spot tonight!
There was a Mexican restaurant we loved in Encinitas that closed a couple of years ago. We're still looking for a similar restaurant with a fun outdoor ambiance and authentic Mexican dishes. Your restaurant scores well in the ambiance category but the food came out entirely too fast and tasted more like reheated institutional fare instead of cooked to order. The margarita was good and our server was very pleasant so we are likely to come back until we find something worth coming back for on your menu.
We had delicious Mexican food in Del Mar at En Fuego Cantica and Grill. The patios on multiple levels were great venues for the meal.
The service and the food are excellent here. I love the ambience and the energy this place has! And, I think it's just the happy hour price, but $6 for a generous pour of wine… in Del Mar?!? ...and it's good wine, not bottom shelf! Also, the portions are large… I can never finish a whole plate of food, so I always have to get a to-go box and literally get two meals out of one entree!
On one of my visits here I've ordered the carnitas tacos, and they were one of the best carnitas I've ever had! It's hard to get carnitas just right…. They're either too dry, too greasy, or too much fat, but these were seasoned perfectly and done just right! Having Central American heritage, I was raised with black beans, so I always seek out Hispanic restaurants that also serve black beans-- and the black beans and rice here are delectable! Mix 'em up together, and--- voila! Instant "gallo pinto!"
We were there for weekly music on Wednesday .. great show fun night with Muchael Tiernon and friends!
We very much enjoyed going here for my partner's birthday! The only issue we had is with how long service took. It wasn't awful but getting our orders out were quite some time after we arrived. Our poor waitress looked absolutely swamped. She was still very courteous to us and was definitely doing her best, but she needed another server in the area to take over some tables because she couldn't get a break!
We went for taco Tuesday, everything was really tasty and the hand shaken margaritas were terrific. The al pastor, carnitas, and fish tacos were all generous and had different salsas and toppings, great evening overall.
Food, atmosphere and service were great. Afterwards took a short walk to the beach to watch the sunset.
Great food and location. Service was great and drinks were delicious
The mostly outdoor seating provides a pleasant ambiance. The menu has a good variety of traditional American Mexican dishes. The food is good, service fine. A good place for families.
Date night and celebrating a belated bday dinner
