We were so looking forward to our Mother's Day Brunch at the Wyndham. To our surprise, after searching all around the resort to find an actual restaurant, we were finally directed inside the hotel, where signage directed us to a banquet room with no windows and a 3 piece band playing a little loudly. Moms received a long stem rose when entering, which was a nice touch.
The room was totally underwhelming, as I pictured a tropical setting with at the very least a view of the beach and some atmosphere, but the all white tables, walls, and lack of decor added to the underwhelming impact.
Also underwhelming was the food. I had visions of Smoked Salmon with Capers, maduros (fried sweet plantains), an omelette station, and other delicious treats. What we got were scrambled eggs with roasted potatoes, and LOTS of Pork! There was bacon, chorizo, pork loin, chicken, with waffles (using Costco waffles) and gravy, and a sad looking pasta salad.
I am a vegetarian, and could only eat the eggs and potatoes. With a few tasty shot glass deserts and some sliced melon, I filled my belly, but that was about all. Our server was wonderful, as were the rest of the staff, but I expected a lot more from this institution.
No atmosphere (the band was good tho), food I could get in any cheap restaurant, and an expensive price ($70.p/p plus tip), this was the biggest waste of money I have had in a supposed fine dining environment in my life.
I hope the chef reads this and decides to provide an actual Mother's Day Brunch that makes us mothers feel glad to be there. It should be an experience to remember, not just meh!
