I expected a view from the 40th floor. However, there are two parts to the dining room. The one in which I was seated has a full wall blocking any kind of view. I was at a table in a corner that might as well have been on the first floor as the fortieth. This was disappointing and meant my review is based only on food, wine, and service at $195 for the Tasting Menu plus $145 for the Wine Pairing before taxes and gratuity.
Bottom line upfront: It was good but not stellar. The glassware that was used for the wine pairings detracted from, rather than enhanced, the enjoyment. At this price point, I expect an experience that is much closer to stellar. Especially absent a view, I felt the experience was significantly overpriced. Nothing was bad, yet none of the courses elicited a "wow!
Things were a little slow to start. It seemed like I waited a long time after being seated to be offered water or a cocktail. Once I (finally) had the chance to order a cocktail, the service afterwards was good. However, I had to ask for a napkin when only silverware was brought to me. I understand that COVID precautions preclude setting the table in advance but felt they should have gotten the silverware and napkins thing down by now.
A particular criticism: the white wine pairings come in what look like identical mini-coupe glasses about 1/2 to 1/3 the size of a normal wine glass. The reds also come in either mini-glasses that look closer to a water glass than wine glass or a cordial glass.
My guess is that they hope to avoid making obvious the tiny size of the pours. However, even if the pour was just a taste of wine I think it would be more enjoyable in proper wine glassware. I cannot recall being in another high-end restaurant that didn't have wine glasses matched to the types of wine being served. For me, this greatly detracted from the wine.
Food was outstanding. Well seasoned, perfectly cooked, complex dishes. Service not so much. Courses should move at the pace of the diner and we spent a lot of time waiting. Even had to flag someone down for the bill.
Put in a corner and served very quickly with not much time to enjoy a glass of wine.
When we heard that Everest was closing New Year's Eve, we had to return. It was not disappointing. As usual, the food was superior, as was the staff. It is wonderful to splurge once in a while. This restaurant will be missed.
Amazing! Best meal ever.
Got engaged here and celebrated 20 years. Quite a splurge but so elegant, refined and memorable
I didn't get seated where I requested to get seated. I reserved almost three months in advance in order to secure the table I wanted for my first wedding anniversary.
We got sat right by where all waiters convene. It felt like I was eating in the kitchen.
I had to ask for a refill.
They're custom was to congratulate you on whatever you were celebrating upon arrival and that didn't happen. The waitress just dropped off our check, but never asked how our meal was. I heard her congratulate the table next to us on their anniversary, but we were treated differently.
They're closing on December 31 and I will not miss them at all.
S special place that holds great memories of family celebrations and life milestones. The perfect location for an anniversary or milestone birthday.
Amazing food. Great views of Chicago. The duck tureen was one of the best things I have ever eaten. My entree was artic char with bacon sauce was special. I have been to France, eaten in Paris and other aces. This surpassed those experiences.
Everything was perfect the food delicious, atmosphere perfect and staff amazing. It is so sad that they are closing the end of the year. Another Chicago landmark of fine dining gone.
Always a wonderful experience.
Outstanding service!!!low food quality!!hate to say,but I was expecting more from place like that.
The room was perfectly set. The attention to detail did not miss. Felt very safe very comfortable. The staff is super attentive without being pressing. The food and wine were perfectly match. Chef is amazing takes so much time with each table. Still the best in the city. Great Job to Chef and the team. Try it you will not be disappointed.
