Restaurant was nice and everything was overall solid.
Overall a pleasant experience. One criticism would be that our dishes arrived too quickly in succession, not allowing sufficient time to enjoy each and giving us a sense of being rushed through our meal. We loved the variety of seasonal, fresh, local dishes on the menu, particularly the choices in plant-based offerings.
Honestly, this was one of the best food experiences I have had in ages and I am also a regular to Farmers Apprentice. The food they cook is satisfying in curiosity and experimentation, the January cabbage was absolutely divine as was every other dish. I only wish the Japanese gin martini I so love their Grapes and Soda next door could be served at Farmer's, but it just meant we started there first. Amazing place is Farmer's...

The food is something to look forward to. There was an amazing use of truffles. Everything well worth it.
I liked the feel of this place, and wanted to love the food. But some of it was underwhelming. The potato dumpling with duck confit sounded so promising, but just didn't deliver much flavour. Same with the toasted faro salad. The January king cabbage was surprisingly yummy though. Maybe we ordered the wrong things. Service was well-timed and friendly.

I love a restaurant that allows reservations for brunch! The omelette was delicious, perfectly prepared and the coffee was from Elysian which was great.
Very small portion for $35 main course
Tables were less that 12” apart. Another couple seated right beside us despite the restaurant being half empty. Had every word of their conversation right in our ears. Very limited selection of entrees. Food was tasty, but over-priced for quantity/quality. Presentation was poor for pork entree. Just a plate of brown. Won’t be returning.
Excellent food and service. Very accommodating for dietary needs.
Diners should be forewarned that usually just 2 entrees with meat. Family style is fine. One dish was pork neck and heavily with fat served with curried beans. Not fully enjoyed with fat ratio and for $38.
Just be aware of the gamble given the limited selection and questionable value. Dishes do change.
We brought our friends from out of town here. One was vegetarian and plenty of options for them. Our waitress was helpful and informative. We had a great meal together.

The food is very very tasty and beautifully presented. It's a small menu, which I love because I know every item has been carefully thought through. Our server was extremely attentive while not being a nuisance. It was not too noisy, which I like, and it was nice and cozy even although it was snowing outside. for sure I will go back and I would recommend it.
It was fine. Not sure we would go again but worth a visit overall for some interesting small dishes.
Seasonal, fresh, efficient as always. A solid choice. We went for brunch this time, and it’s one of a few places where you can make a reservation for brunch instead of trying your luck at a table. Not interested in waiting in long lineups for eggs, so this was a solid spot.
a small and bustling place that serves some amazing foods.....we booked a few weeks in advance to get an 8:30 PM table, and the experience was lovely, just like the servers. The foods were somewhat unusual, most very much of interest and fascination....we did appreciate that the dishes appeared at a good pace, and, were meant to share. We enjoyed two salads, one order with sablefish...the only truly expensive dish was the steak which was cooked to perfection. It literally melted in your mouth. Disappointed that there was little or no consideration for B.C. wines, nor anything chocolate for the dessert offerings. A very pleasant place that we will return to for a special occasion or when we have true foodies visiting us.
We had been meaning to go to the Farmer's Apprentice since it opened in our area, but only got around to it for my husband's birthday last week. After winning a top restaurant award in Vancouver it took a while to get a reservation at a good time. But certainly worth the wait! Very friendly, unpretentious, helpful wait staff. And very delicious, interesting, eclectic food. Loved all the 70s records they were playing.
I was amazed with the whole experience at the Farmer's Apprentice.
We were greeted with a friendly hello and seated immediately. The decor was interesting. Not too flashy but there was thought put into it. I was sitting next to an old vintage window that used as a partition.
We chose three seafood dishes and the eggplant. Every single dish came out with a full description by the server. The taste was incredible and so fresh. The dessert with the basil sorbet and blueberries was delicious.
My sister and I were thrilled to have a chance to speak with the owners who were so nice and humble.
I believe they have a great future ahead.

Lots of creativity in the menu, with all dishes intended for sharing. Individual dishes, however, are relatively small so be prepared to order a second helping when you discover one you love. Space is tight, especially if you're sitting opposite the bar area. We tried just about everything and nothing disappointed. Definitely on the list of places to visit again and again!!
Made a reservation about a month in advance and everything was great until the main course prime rib. It tasted like it was roasted. It was covered in sauce. A rib eye is a notoriously fatty steak and I was very surprised to find it had been roasted. In my opinion, a rib eye should be cooked at high heat to make best use of the fat and it's flavour. Since it was cooked low and slow, it meant I paid $50 for a very fatty dish. Other than that everything was great.
The food was fabulous and fresh! The chef decided the order the food would come out in. Really enjoyed the sharing style and got to taste a bit of everything! Can't wait to try it again.
The restaurant tries too hard. The service is slow. The plating is poor. The favors are decent, but it's nothing notable. It's a hipster place that doesn't quite put out anything worth going back for. The waiters need a lesson in providing good service. We weren't notified of the specials. There were gnats flying all around. They gave us still and then sparking water. We asked just for still. Mediocre at best.

We went to the Sunday night set menu. The corn soup was excellent. The salad selection was very good, and again excellent. The toast was interesting. We enjoyed the main course which was pork. The plumb desert was very good.
Yes, the food was interesting and tasty. The tables are tight, so much that if the waiter is talking to the table next to us, his shirt would fall into our wine glass.The service wasn't great. It's nice to have dishes come out one at a time so that you can enjoy each one but there were a couple of times with awfully long gaps between dishes and sometimes 2 would come at once. The bench seating was ok. The seating across was a hard chair with no cushion and it was an awkward height for the table. It was so long between dishes that my boyfriend and I had to change seats because his was so uncomfortable. They brought dessert but no cutlery and then disappeared. We had to share a pear tart and eat with a knife and mini spoon for espresso.
Farmers Apprentice was an absolute joy to eat at. Every plate was more complex, more delicious and more impressive than the last. Particular highlights for us were the gnocchi and the rib of beef, which was reportedly cooked medium rare, but arrived rare at best (much to our unbridled joy!) Fantastic music selection and a generally great experience. Get a table booked as soon as possible!
FA does a great job of putting together a small menu of interesting combinations of seasonal/local ingredients prepared exquisitely well. The service is always spot-on - friendly without being intrusive and helpful with recommendations. The wine list always features some intriguing wines that you probably won't see elsewhere. My only complaint is that it's harder and harder to get into! Can't wait for their bistro next door to open.
The portion is smaller than I had expected. Two of us were barely full. The food over all was pretty good but for that price I could better choices. The place is so tiny that there are no room for me to get out of the restaurant.
this place is a REAL foodies' restaurant.....almost too a fault. This may bewhy it may have rec'd such 'mixed' reviews......the presentation is VERY simple and nothing is over-the-top which perhaps people expect it to be. First, this place is about sharing, and the portions are fine for that and the quality and uniqueness of the food DESERVES to be shared. Service was perfect - not 'too' attentive and did a great job of synching with our needs. Don't expect any 'big' presentations or sauces - this place is all about the ingredients and trying to create sublime creations that are unique for their freshness and inventive preparations. Because it was awarded 'best new restaurant' in Vancouver it seems people expect more 'fluff'.
Excellent, innovative, fresh food. Really fun to go with friends and order a bunch of different things to try on the menu. I have never had a dish here that I didn't like!
We had olives, which were wonderful; different that I have ever had. Then the bread with onion butter, which was delicious. Then the scallops and pork cheeks, both of which were outstanding. Strange that the duck confit was sold out at 5:45....The prices are a little high for the portion sizes, which are small. But if you crave great food, this is the place for you!
Happy and joyous food that comes out of the kitchen with the chefs delivering it. Sharing style plates, with thoughtful food. Uber fresh with interesting combinations. Every time I dine here I leave with a big smile on my face. Not so much of a hidden gem anymore, as the word is out. This is a restaurant that does something completely different, and without any pretension or attitude. Again, consistently amazing!
Definitely a different and interesting food experience - fresh ingredients in unique combinations (we asked for a copy of the daily menu sheet back so we could keep track of the components)! Lots of chefs in the open kitchen, and they seemed to enjoy serving the food themselves. As expected, the servings were a bit pricey for the small size - 4 of us split 7 main items plus 2 breads and the great olives. Recommend the perfectly done halibut. The sweetbreads were a highlight - great sauce - another good reason for the bread to wipe up every drop. Great background music. On the negative side, there were no moderately priced wines on the list. Also no non-alcoholic beer, soft drinks or juices for non-drinkers - just a fruity "cocktail".
We had dinner on a Friday night. This place gets quite busy as it is very popular. We liked the idea that all plates were meant for sharing. We had a nice zucchini and tomato salad with avocado dressing, some halibut that was small but perfectly done, and a rib eye steak that was overpriced and not cooked on a hot enough grill; the fat was not really crisped up. The bread, which is an extra cost, was very good but there was not enough olive oil provided with the bread. I would recommend this restaurant but I will not go there again for a year or two as there are so many new restaurants to try in Vancouver.
