It was an unfortunate experience but I wouldn't dock the restaurant itself. I've eaten at Eataly multiple times and have always loved their food. My only recommendation is to create smaller plates of high quality meals and pace them with serving. This was just too much 'basic' food and with being given a 2 hour timeslot of our reservation, we felt very rushed. The waiter was outstanding though and very nice, given that he knew we were overwhelmed.
Food was good, but what we got was slightly different from the description on-line ... e.g., we did not get the charcuterie plate.
The service was extremely nice and made the experience very good.
The ambience was a bit sad as due to COVID the place was a little empty.
Chefs were so kind and made my experience amazing
Waited almost an hour for drink orders— only one out of four came as ordered. Only one person in the kitchen.Wait staff NOT trained— with the hype and the prices charged this is not acceptable— we have never had as a bad of a dining experience anywhere in the world as this.
It was over the top! Loved everything about our meal!
We arrived for our reservation and no one was to be found to check us in. Once we found someone we were brought to our table by the window. Nice enough view, but the table for two was awkwardly set up so that my husband and I were seated next to one another rather than across. Entree portions were smallish. The polenta with kale had such an overwhelming smokiness to the kale that it completely overpowered the entire dish. It was so strong that it tastes like you licked the bottom of a dirty ashtray! The waiter was apologetic and offered to comp our dessert. Not necessary, but appreciated. On the whole the dining experience was underwhelming and not worth the effort to deal with the chaos of the store. Ambiance was sad as well. Dreary lighting rather than cozy or charming. No candles on the tables. Nothing to make the space inviting. My advice....go elsewhere if you want delicious Italian with ambiance.
What a great experience overall! From the food (Truffles!) to the outstanding service provided to us. Last year we made reservations via Open Table just to get there to find they had closed for the season. We were disappointed, but still decided to give this place a shot this year, and I’m glad we did. I don’t even remember mentioning our prior experience to them, but upon arriving and being seated we were poured a glass of Prosecco and complimentary appetizers for what had happened to us prior. So kind of them to do! We will definitely be back next year with more in tow haha.
We went II Tartufo on a Sunday for their special truffle dinner. It was outstanding. I highly recommend while truffles are in season.
There was a hair in my food. Disgusting
Service was not good. Waiter poured wine without asking if that was the wine I wanted and when I asked for a different one he said that he already poured that one so it would be practical
We went last year and had an amazing meal
This year was the opposite
I think they just grabbed a few staff from the
Food court and placed them in there
The risotto was very average somewhat
mushy and over cooked and the
Pasta was tasteless and a little dry
The wine was the only savior
It’s a pure money grab this year
And by the way you can’t even get an
Espresso there,really?
Food and waiter were great. Very friendly
The pasta was not cooked or seasoned well; the truffle barely had much flavor. Disappointing and not worth the price based on the quality and taste of the food.
Food was exquisite! Location of the restaurant within the building was difficult to locate.
WAS NOT AT EATALY...... got there and the restaurant wasn’t there anymore
Delicious tasting menu featuring truffles. Highly recommend this seasonal restaurant: imaginative and delicious cuisine, attentive service and lively ambiance.
Worst experience all around. Long wait, confused staff, and lack of attention to any detail. If Batali was there watching, he would fire everyone and start all over again. Save your money for something else.
Fantastic! Food was amazing and sometimes, having a rare truffle is needed.
Worst service I might have possibly ever had in Chicago. Staff did absolutely nothing for us and reminders had to be given 2+ times for items that needed to be brought to table. The bus boy eventually brought items both times after being the 3rd person asked.
When I went online before driving downtown last Thursday, the website for this restaurant said that they had valet parking for between $14 to $18. When we got to Eataly's door, there were several cars with their flashers on, so I got in line with them. After no valet attendant appeared, one in our party went inside to inquire about the valet parking service, and was informed that that service was no longer offered. I then drove across the street to park in a garage. When I got into Eataly, I inquired at the service desk about it, and the young woman apologized. When we got to the front desk of the restaurant where Marissa was, I again noted the parking situation, and she, too, apologized, stating that they needed to update their webpage. After spending a substantial amount of money on the meal and after buying some things in the grocery section, I went back to the customer service desk to get my parking ticket validated because our very kind waitress in Il Tartufo told me to do so. When I handed the young lady the ticket, she said that I had parked in the wrong lot. When I went to the lot to pay for my parking, I was stunned to find out that the parking was $49! I definitely think that this is totally unfair since I had checked the restaurant's website before driving downtown and it was stated that valet parking was available at a much, much cheaper rate. I expect someone from Eataly to reimburse me for the parking.
This is our third year at El Tartufo! Service is slow, food was disappointing. This year the truffles were also inferior to last year! We live truffles and came back this year to try again.
We will not go back!
This restaurant was tucked away in a quiet corner of Eataly. When we got there early evening, it was very quiet. We were sat in the far corner and I feel that because we were there, we were missed by the waitstaff often.
We ordered the carne cruda, which was a huge pile of largely diced raw meat. It was tasty, but meal size, not appetizer size. The cheese, honey and toast was tasty. We ordered a pasta dish with I believe a truffle butter sauce. If you like the flavor of butter, you will like this. It was a bit strong for my taste. We got 3 deserts, but because of some confusion with who was serving us, we ended up getting 4. Mind you, these deserts were not large, but I ended up taking the 4th one home.
I really do not understand why there are so many negative reviews on opentable. We had a fantastic meal! It’s tucked back into an area with lots of windows so the pop up itself is set up like any other restaurant would be. We both enjoyed that we could hear each other talk through out the night. We decided to do the tasting menu to try a little of it all. It was so tasty! We did get pork that was dry and the staff was quick to replace it no questions asked. My fiancée and I believe the bad reviews come from the fact people dining here either don’t actually understand and love truffle OR they are expecting something quicker like many of the other stalls at Eataly offer. Overall a great experience and something to try why it’s still here!
Menu did not match what was on opentable, waiter was not very helpful.
This is the third year we’ve gone to Tartufo for a Christmas lunch. And sad to say, the last. Service was very slow. They had one server, a busboy and one food runner-on a Saturday. Food was not warm, not much flavor and paired wines were not poured in time for the accompanying dish.
Disappointing-I expect more for the price.
Spent a lot of money. Bought a truffle which was so dried out the server could not even slice it. He just crumbled it up over the food. They brought me the wrong entree. The only reason I gave 2 stars instead of 1 is because they were very nice and brought the correct entree for us to take home.
The meat items were really good. The vegetarian dishes were bland at times. The Apple dessert was cold as if it had just gotten out of the fridge. They could’ve at least warmed it up. Overall, I thought the truffle was a nice addition but I didn’t think the food was anything spectacular.
Great atmosphere. Great authentic and creative menu. The food was delicious, full of flavor and great quality.
This this third time we have eaten at one of your pop-ups and enjoyed each one. We will be back again. But we have attended Course Horse events at Eataly have can not say the same. Both were very disappointing.
I would highly recommend the special pop-ups as each time the food was wonderful.
Menu has not evolved much since the 2017 iteration of this pop-up restaurant in Chicago. Nonetheless, the execution of the meals is generally solid, with generous serving sizes
I was disappointed in the experience. I had much higher expectations for such a cool concept. We were very pleased with a couple of items and sadly disappointed by a couple items. They did some compensation for it but I would relay her have had an amazing experience than the concession.
Jerome was a delight. The food was awesome! Unfortunately, they brought the mains to the table before we were done with our starters. They tried to set the plates down on top of things. No, no, no. The truffles and wine were fantastic!
They were busy and our waiter had too many tables. That said, we had been sitting at our table for over an hour with only bread and water.
I was expecting the food to be much better than it was. That’s not to say it was “bad”, but it certainly wasn’t “great”.
The bread was hard crunchy focaccia. Didn’t like it. No extra oil for dipping was provided.
The tajarin was just ok. It was basically a large bowl of noodles and truffle oil with extra shaved truffles. If the pasta had sauce, it was not noticeable. It was akin to what you’d order from a kids menu (except much pricier).
One person had the duck and enjoyed it.
Dessert was not offered until we asked.
We also had to ask for our plates to be cleared at least half an hour after finishing eating.
In short, the food and service fell short of expectations.
We ate at the Eataly pop-up truffle restaurant when it first opened and the food was excellent. On December 29 we took a friend and all three of us ordered the truffle supplement--and each of us experienced totally tasteless truffles. Maybe since the restaurant was one night from closing the truffles were on their last legs. In addition, at our first meal there was very elegant truffle service involving a special cart and servers performing a "ritual" service; the second time it felt as though a busboy was doing the job and he had trouble scraping the remnants of our truffle from his slicer--furthermore, we had to ask for more truffle since he couldn't seem to get the end of our truffle on to our plates. At the end of the meal we politely registered our disappointment and the cost of the truffle was removed from our check. That was appropriate but the whole point of the meal was to enjoy savory truffles not to avoid paying for tasteless truffles. We eat at the various Eataly stations all the time and our experiences have been uniformly excellent and fairly priced so this was a major disappointment.
Place was empty and service was terrible
Birthday present. Excellent food. Quiet. Adventurous.
Unfortunately the truffles had no flavor at all. The food was excellent, and the staff was accommodating and did not charge us for the truffle, but we went here to have the truffle flavor. It was a major disappointment.
Great food; so-so service. At this price point, service timing and attention should have been much higher.
Wonderful meal and service! Our server Anthony could not have been nicer.
Love this pop up concept and look forward to more if these.
Truffles-what an indulgence and so delicious!
