We did the 5 course tasting menu at Forestry Camp & it was incredible. Every course went so well together! The wait staff was great, & they treated us like we were the only people there. It was very quiet & they maintained social distancing.
I planned a special night for my husband’s birthday while staying in Asheville. We were required to pre pay for the chef’s pre-fixed menu. The food was extremely salty and sour. The first course consisted of bowls of warmed up olives, nuts, mushrooms and kimchi. There was a pumpkin pasta that came out cold and tasted gamey. It was extremely overpriced and disappointing. Our waiter, Christian, was very nice and at least I have one nice thing to take away. I made a point at reservation setting to tell them it was my husband’s birthday. No mention or acknowledgment for his birthday was made when we were there.
Great tasting menu with Naomi! Lovely setting & delicious food!
Fabulous experience. Covid careful setting and staff.
We enjoyed the tasting menu which to our surprise, was a 2 and a half hour EXPERIENCE! Those shiitake mushrooms were too good to be true and the entrees.....DAMN!!! Thanks for a lovely night. We loved it more than I can describe!! 10/10 would eat again!
My favorite place to eat and drink in Asheville. Stellar beer list which would bring me in on its own, but the food is equally top notch. Service is always great and the tunes and atmosphere bring it all together for a great dining experience.
Best meal of my life!
Can’t say enough about the food, the service, the experience!
Tasting menu was outstanding- a true culinary masterpiece! Great value for the money. We were absolutely stuffed. Highly recommend!
We had the MOST fabulous dinner at the Camp last night. It was more like 7 courses instead of 5 though. There were at least two suprise add ons.
My favorite course was the soup and salad, which sound so simple but was anything but. The pumpkin soup was laden with pork belly that made those bites make you close your eyes and chew slowly to savor the moment. The salad was complicated with figs and whipped goat cheese. It went so well with the soup; warm vs. cold; rich vs. tart and sweet; smooth vs. crisp. It was wonderful.
Maren was so knowledgeable of the wines and took such good care of our 3 hour journey through this culinary experience. The night and food were epic! Such a great value too. We will be back to delve into another adventure from Chef Debrie.
Service was spectacular and food was great! Wonderful atmosphere
The food was really good. Roast beef sandwich had good flavor and was tender. What held it back was the roll straight out of the fridge. I think the chocolate dessert had good flavor. What held it back was that it was also straight out of the fridge. That made the flavor muted and the crust so-so. The pork chop was wonderful. The garlic potatoes had the right amount of crunch on the skin.
I know it's outside and dark, but a few more candles on each table would help. I'll try this restaurant again...
Wonderful setting and historic space. Lots of outdoor dining, safely crafted. Nice to be able to make reservations too.
Awesome food, service and ambiance. Great wine list. There’s no heaters outside, which is where we ate, so if you are eating outside and it’s going to be chilly, just bundle up. But worth the bundle-food was amazing!
Excellent food and service!
Very interesting concept with unique dishes. Definitely worth a visit. Greet wine list!
It’s just a cozy, cool, delicious place. Can’t wait to go back!
We have been to this establishment pre-Covid and absolutely loved the food. We have not been out to eat more than twice since Covid started and we came here because our daughter was visiting and she had previously loved it!We were disappointed for our 2 o’clock reservation when the menu was incredibly limited. Basically only sandwiches with a couple of appetizers. Somehow we did not catch that when we looked on the website. No problem with the safety as we were seated outside. It was quite windy and heaters would’ve been lovely but I don’t think will return until the menu goes back to a more full level. I feel for all the restaurants and hope everyone survives!
Covid be damned!
Delicious food, professional service. Sat outside due to covid restrictions, and we had excellent weather so it was fine - ambience not as easily controlled as indoors. Not a problem, just a reality of the circumstances. Food was fantastic, drinks on point. Will return, the bottom line, no?
Everything was excellent. We went here for brunch the day after our wedding, and did leave a note about that in our open table reservation, but it was not acknowledged at the restaurant. That was a bit disappointing but the food and service were good.
My wife and I recently ate at Forestry Camp while in Asheville for a week. They were only seating people outside which was fine with us.
We were both hungry but also wanted to save some room for dessert. We got two small plates and a large plate to share. It was a perfect amount. Our small plates were the lentil salad and the smoked trout croquettes and our large plate was the braised beef gnocchi. All 3 were extremely flavorful and delicious.
We saved room for desert and got both the Paw Paw Pie and the Squash Cake.
Everything was fantastic, including the service. This will definitely be a place we go back to.
Really enjoyed Forestry! The food was excellent, all of the meats were cooked to perfection. We arrived a little early for our reservation and were able to be seated quickly. Great drink menu, and awesome beers too! Only complaint was that there were no outdoor heaters or fireplaces going, but it was the first cold weekend of the year, so I'm sure it's something they're working on.
Meal was mediocre for the price. The outdoor setup and service were great, though.
We had a great outdoor dining experience
We had a lovely meal sitting outside under the upstairs awning. I love that they don't have printed menus and you look it up on your phone. They also use local ingredients which squash seemed to be the theme that night. Service and food was great and the ambiance was awesome. Its nice to be able to go out and have a nice meal in these times. Would definitely go back again!
Great spot, great environment. We will be back, most definitely!!
We stumbled across this former CCC camp restaurant on Instagram. It lived up to all expectations. Food was excellent. We started with trout croquettes with nice sizes pieces of trout, lemon peel, and capers. Main course was sandwiches (roast beef and chicken salad). Both were very generous and could have been shared. For dessert we had squash cake which was the star of the night. Savory yet sweet and not too dense. Service was excellent and masks were needed when not eating or drinking.
Sweet spot with good food. Just wish they didn’t allow kids.
The food was amazing, we cannot wait to go back when we are in Asheville!
Horrible food not worth the price at all
It was great to have some uniquely prepared items! We had the lentil salad and chicken (not mayo-based! yay!) sandwich. Very good! Also had a flavorful bloody mary made with mushroom powder.
No inside dining yet...food limited menu. Pricey. Cool place and good beers and great wine selection. Worth checking out of review menu before going.
Food was amazing and so flavorful! Service was excellent and our waitress was very kind. It is outdoor dining so make sure to dress appropriately!
We loved the smoked trout croquettes! Seemed appropriate to try trout in the mountains. The entire menu was unique and had tons of delightful options. I want to go back for the sparkling red wine as they were unfortunately sold out when we visited. The ambiance and service was great.
Limited lunch menu. Ate under a canopy on an old picnic table. About 5-6 other picnic tables in that spot beside bushes filled with yellow jackets. Food was good but not worth the $$.
Food was fantastic. Wine was delicious. I will be back.
Felt safe. Great service and food.
I took out of town guests here because it is a special place and so representative of the Asheville and Blue Ridge mountain vibe. The food was amazing and the service was very good. I give our experience an 11!
We sat outside and felt very safe. I definitely recommend Forestry Camp as a must do destination for locals and for visitors.
Thank you to their amazing crew of chefs, servers and bartenders.
PS we ordered a lot of the small plates, sandwiches, and a fantastic dessert.
Went for the beer and outdoor dining opportunities and was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food! Everyone was really happy with the food. REALLY HAPPY.
Food and drink were both excellent. Unfortunately, we had to cut our meal short when my son was accidentally served nuts (server knew of his allergies). If you have allergies, I would avoid this place, otherwise it's fine.
