Gaslamp Fish House
Very strange calamari and what seemed to be frozen oysters from the raw bar
Great food, drinks, and service. Blackberry Black Pearl Mojito was killer.
Super casual. Went for a lunch. Our waitress made some great recommendations. Wish the lobster roll was still on the menu.
They were down 2 cooks on a Saturday night so food was very slow to come out of the kitchen, yet totally understandable. Our server kept us notified and then ended up comping us a dessert sampler for waiting so long... which is exactly the right thing to. My wife and I have both been in the service industry, on both sides of the line as well as having over 35 years of management experience and they handled everything exactly as we would have. When food did finally arrive, it was hot, fresh and very tasty! We were both a little surprised at the value also: $40 foot a huge serving of king crab! Drink prices were great also: $12 for a Tanq 10 martini?? I’ve paid more than double for that.
Highly recommend this place!
Wife’s birthday was nice place low key nice views service guy was slow not talkative but was nice place would go again
We came here for the extensive seafood menu. I wish I could give them more than 3 stars. We are HUGE seafood fans and were very excited for the dinner. We ordered calamari, shrimp dynamite, and brie and pear flatbread, which were all cooked very different, but we enjoyed it. My daughter ordered the King Crab legs- it was very dry, either overcooked or sat too long under heat lamp, as was our first round of lobster tails, dry/overcooked. My son ordered the ribeye, medium-rare but it came out almost well. My boyfriend ordered the surf n turf, he seemed to be happy with his dish. I do have to say our second round of lobster tails were much better, not overcooked. I ordered the cioppino, it was made with a red curry base instead of the typical tomato based broth, it would have been good but it was too sweet. Overall, we were very disappointed with the food but the service was good.
The food and service were wonderful! We would return if we get the chance again.
Food was good, i think they were short staffed.. waitress made up for it with a free beer. Just dont get the Hemingway mai tai. It was not good.
I ordered Alaskan King Crab legs and it was not fresh. Crabs was cut in half and the color was brownish.
My husband ordered lobster bisque soup and it was cold. Very disappointed of the quality of food.
This was our first time at Gaslamp Fish House. Everything about it was great! The food was so amazing we couldn’t stop eating!
The staff were wonderful and very helpful. The food was delicious and large portion sizes.
We had a 7:45 reservation and were seated within a few minutes of arriving. However, by 9:10 pm we had only received drinks & appetizers, despite repeated reminders to our waitress. She told us the kitchen was backed up, yet we saw almost every other table around us receive their food. Our appetizers didn’t even arrive until 8:50 pm, a full hour after we were seated! We finally told our waitress to cancel the entrees and left hungry. The staff did nothing to rectify the situation either, they didn’t comp the appetizers or drinks or anything! We asked another table nearby if they experienced the same service, and they told us their food was delayed but their oysters, drinks, and dessert were comped to make up for it. This was a horrible experience for what looked like a promising meal! Extremely disappointed in how the staff managed this situation. We will not be returning.
I recently had weight loss surgery and needed a soup that was in my guidelines and I had the Lobster Bisque it was delicious! My mom got the calamari and the Caesar salad, said it was delicious too, although the sauce for the calamari was a little sweet. Overall it was a great experience.
Great experience. Went for my bday. Wait stuff and food was outstanding.
The menu had something for everyone at our party. LOVED the Cioppino!
We had the Scallops with mashed potatoes & mushrooms, also the Seafood Pasta. Both were absolutely amazing. The service was fast and our server was on top of everything. We will definitely be making this a regular dine in spot.
Food was really good as was the service. I would recommend the Gaslamp Fish House. The location is just a touch sketchy for me.
I grew up in San Diego in the 70’s, Broadway and Horton Plaza was always a area to avoid after dark. It was much better now. There were groups of people walking in the area. Don’t let my slight unease, which I’m going to chalk up to an old prejudice about the area, keep you from the restaurant. Just be on heightened awareness.
Food wasn’t great and the drinks were worse. The was a large piece of newspaper in my friends mussels and they didn’t even discount her meal.
Solid downtown seafood spot. I'd go back, legit food and good service.
Had a reservation at 8pm and wasn’t seated until 820 and then waited over two hours for our entree to arrive for them to be luke warm and bland. Also very expensive for what is given.
Quality of dishes don’t exactly match up with the descriptions nor their pricing.
Understaffed on weekends so expect to wait through each and every step.
Small pours on mediocre drinks. Noisy inside and if you eat on the patio have to contend with staggering drunks and homeless, loud cars approaching the “scene”/it’s a BUSY corner.
The food is amazing! Service outstanding! Drinks delicious. Elvia was our waiter, she rocked!!! However the wait for our main course was unacceptable, but Elvia and the manager apologized and took care of us. Almost half off our bill to make it for up. Would definitely go back again but I hope they fix whatever caused the wait to be so long. We got there at 6:45pm and left at 10:40. Most of that time was waiting for our food. Appetizers and drinks came out quick, not sure what happened with the main course. Thank you Elvia for making this birthday celebration great.
Great food and wonderful service and staff
OpenTable let me place a reservation, but when we got there, it was closed and apparently has been for some time. I called the restaurant phone number and a message said they were closed as of a date on the beginning of July but they hoped to reopen someday.
If a place is closed, why would I be able to place a reservation?!?
The menu and everything looked great! Too bad we weren’t able to experience it!
Arrived to the restaurant for my reservation and it was CLOSED. Was very disappointed.
The server was really nice. We ordered Sangria and it was watered down and had barely any wine. It tasted more like a spritzer. The Clam chowder was good but our main entree was bad. The salmon had no flavor and was covered in it seems a honey mustard dressing. Did not seem fresh and way too sweet. This did not seem like a sauce from scratch. It cost almost $70 and the level of food quality was extremely poor. Very Disappointed!
Lights were too dim to see the food. I like to check for hair and other foreign material. Food was a bit overpriced and they were out of crabs legs.
Scallops were done well, but the accompanying mashed potatoes were cold. Crab and lobster were ok, but maybe left in the pot a bit too long, while the rice was crunchy and undercooked.
Great food, great service from Max!
We sat outside on the small patio by the street - it was what we expected for noise and atmosphere. Our server was wonderful - super friendly, upbeat, and knowledgeable about the food and the area. The food was very good and a reasonable price for the district.
No bartender the day we were there so only beer and wine.
Definitely a must for happy hour! Service was attentive during covid guidelines n waitress was nice and knowledgeable.
Amazing service & delicious food
Kudos to our waiter (unfortunately I forgot his name) he’s very knowledgeable about the food selection, very accommodating and provided us excellent service! Great oysters and scallops! We enjoyed our visit and will definitely come back!
Was able to make a reservation but when I arrived to the restaurant it was closed
7 of us drove right up to the restaurant for our reservation only to see it boarded up. Their phone just rang. I do understand there were protests in that area but other restaurants were open in that area. At least close the reservation option, post on your website, or have a message on the phone. There were so many other ways to avoid this.
First time going here and it was a really nice spot. Dishes were pretty good and so were the mixed drinks. I’m f anything I would say it was a little pricey but it’s downtown so it’s going to be.
Ordered steak and lobster medium rare. Steak was medium well. Broccolini was cold. Ordered without tomatoes and it came with tomatoes and a sauce for the steak we didn’t order. Caesar salad came out of a bag and poorly put together. Never checked on during our meal and plates not cleared during dining. Reminds us why we don’t dine at Red Lobster chain....it was that caliber except 4 times the price!
Visiting San Diego and wanted seafood. The shrimp cocktail was good, but the lobster and crab legs were rubbery. My spouse had the ribeye and it was undercooked, grissely and a terrible value.
The waitstaff were decent.
