Best traditional Italian in town for cheaper than the fancy places in Mission Valley. No need to order appetizer most of the time. Fried zucchini to start with, bread, and the entrees come with soup or salad.
Exceptionally great food, terrific wine selection, generous portions, courteous and professional service. Highly recommended!
Love this upscale Italian Restaurant. Always good food and great service!
One of our favorite restaurants. Staff is always courteous and efficient. Food was very good and very quickly served. Love the piano music on weekends. Unfortunately we were seated across from a large group and they were so loud that we could not hear the piano music or even converse easily with each other. Not sure there is a solution since there is, to my knowledge, not a separate area for large groups. In most restaurants, if someone tries to seat us next to a large group, we ask for another quieter table, but this group was seated after we had already ordered. Next time, I will ask to be seated near or next to the piano so we can hear the music. Even though there is valet parking, when your car is brought around, you still have to drive out of the parking lot where cars are doubled parked leaving a narrow space between cars to drive out of the lot. Still one of our favorite places, but may avoid weekends and hope for a quieter dinner and easier exit from the parking lot.
Wonderful experience! The service is always top notch. We love the fried zucchini and they have great wine options - we always get Antinori
Can’t wait to go back again!
This place is a charming bit of history. Fantastic food and excellent service.
Awesome restaurant; great food, attentive wait staff!!
Thank you Anthony and all the staff for a wonderful birthday celebration! We always look forward to visiting The Godfather!
Excellent food and nice people always! Although, I had the veal piccata this time. I love lemon but the citrus was so strong it overpowered the dish. The veal was tender and delicious. Just way too much lemon. It may have been an oopsie by the chef that night. Aside from that, everyone loved their dishes and the zucchini is always amazing!! We love The Godfather!!
The food has been getting earlier, most of your customers are of the older category. Doctors say that we must curtail the salt intake and as we get older, the more crucial it becomes.
Birthday for my husband
We went to the Godfather for my husband’s birthday. The service and food was amazing!
Always excellent service and food. Great atmosphere as well. Our favorite San Diego night out place.
Excellent food & customer service, as always. Thank you.
Very proper service was apparent. One difficulty was that the Specials were verbally presented without mentioning the price, and one of the diners in my party was surprised that the Special he ordered (Swordfish) was about 50% higher than the other entrees on the menu. Suggest the restaurant remind the waiters to provide that information without having to ask. Otherwise the servings were generous and served hot..
We were seated in the bar area which was not as loud as the dining room. However that lead to less ambiance. The food is always delicious and service was top notch.
Excellent food, good service in a pleasant setting. Unfortunately, the noise level at the restaurant was quite loud the evening we were there. This appeared to be unusual since loud noise levels had not been a problem during past visits.
From the time you enter the door until you leave the staff treats you like an old friend. Promptly seated, things just effortlessly occur throughout the dining experience. Your waiter, drinks, menus, order taking and dining through dessert simply magically appear in a low key timely fashion. Special requests are handled correctly and easily and the wine selections and food are simply excellent. It's Number One on my list for guesting out of towners. I can only praise the overall dining experience whether a couple or with a group.
Big family reunion, from out of town and out of the country. Tough to get a smile out of the bartender maitre d, real grouch. They sat us near the kitchen and started banging carts around next to us, very odd. My wife was not happy with the food, my veal fiorentina was really salty. Great antipasto plate, great zucchini, great server, Umberto. Very expensive, food was pretty average this time. Much better on my last visit.
We love The Godfather, the food is consistently delicious. The July special was amazing, hopefully they offer it again.
The restaurant was very busy, and the inside temperature was “very warm”. That was the only bummer. I don’t know if the air conditioning wasn’t working properly, but it was very warm.
One of our favorite Italian Restaurants in San Diego. Northern Italian style... been going for years.
We celebrated my father's 91st birthday with a party of 8 at the Godfather Restaurant 2 nights ago. Although I was a little disappointed in the quality of the food, it was a wonderful and very enjoyable occasion. The wait staff was superb. They were very attentive and polite. Everything was served in a timely manner and my dad received a free cannoli dessert at the end of the meal. The owner came by a few times to make sure we had everything we needed. The ambiance was great; it was elegant in a sort of old school way. I ordered the frutti di mare, which had a good flavor, but the seafood was overcooked and one of the mussels hadn't opened. There were mixed reviews about the other dishes (none terrible, just so-so), however my mother's dish, the sea bass with shrimp was delicious.
Our favorite restaurant! Went here for my birthday and food and service is always excellent. Only disappointment was that the piano player is out until at least August. Nice birthday treat with the complimentary cannoli! Parking is tight unless you go early, but there is valet parking.
Service was outstanding! Food was amazing...can't wait to go back!
This is my wife's and my favorite Italian Restaurant. Always the best service and food. Tony and his family are truly a family run business and it shows with their personal touches. Can not recommend this restaurant any higher.
We were seated immediately in a nice cozy booth. Service was impeccable.
Food was delicious!!!
Dessert was out of this world.
All I can say is the food was great and the service was old school and beyond great. Will be back
We hadn't eaten here for a while but the service and quality of food was as good as ever and it was so pleasant to be in comfortable surroundings where we could hear ourselves and our table companions speak without having to shout above loud conversation or music. We will continue to highly recommend The Godfather and were delighted to see they still offer their signature complimentary fried zucchini!
Best Italian food in San Diego
Absolutely delicious dishes from traditional Italian pastas to veal and seafood dishes. My two favorites are the Sea Bass and the Manicotti. Be sure to try the mixed dressing on your salad (Italian and Blue Cheese). The house Burgandy is also excellent (and I am a wine snob). The service is always prompt, courteous, and Italian. The interior is in red hues and a partial tribute to the Godfather movie. There is nice piano music on Fridays and the noise level is generally good for talking (dates or business). Even though I moved to the Bay Area 10 years ago, I always stop in when I'm in San Diego. The owner, Anthony always remembers me and greets everyone with a big welcome smile. You won't be disappointed!
The food is consistently excellent, as is the service. We're tried other Italian restaurants, from downtown San Diego to far East County, and none of them are as good as The Godfather, and most are more expensive, to boot. We'll continue to go to The Godfather for our special occasions.
We were seated next to a large group and asked to be moved.
The manager was very accommodating and moved us.
Everyone was gracious and accommodating.
The food was excellent and we will go again.
Excellent as always! Try the cioppino it’s the absolute best!!
A classic! Outstanding food and old fashioned tuxedoed service!
This is our go to place to celebrate special events.
From the moment we were greeted at the door, until the very last bite and a good-bye, we had an extraordinary experience, a delicious meal, and outstanding service at the Godfather Restaurant.
Had the veal parmagiana. Dish was too salty and sauce was tasteless. Tired of chefs adding salt instead of herbs or other quality ingredients. (Was your chef Italian?) Veal wasn't that great in flavor. But did appreciate that it wasn't deep fried/ breaded.
Service was very good.
As always, excellent service, great food, and an enjoyable evening!
Whether just us two or with guests, whether just a regular dinner or a special event, e.g.: birthday, anniversary, etc., we always enjoy our visit, the dinner, the options, the service, the ambiance and the overall atmosphere. Our requests for a preferred seating area have always been accommodated. Our requests for a named drink to be made perhaps a little different have always been honored.

We look forward to the i appetizers: Cuori Di Carciof - Artichoke hearts and the Mozzarella in Carozza - Mozzarella seasoned Yes, we should try something else, but these two always hit thee spot.
This time our entrees were: Speciale Dello Chef Isidoro - Chef Isidoro's original seasoned and breaded veal stuffe, and the lamb chops – perfectly grilled.
Of course we shall return.
