Gyu-Kaku - Cupertino, CA

BBQ Calamari Miso*
Greens, daikon radish, tomatoes, cucumbers, red bell peppers, egg, and house dressing
Great experience. Patient and friendly staff. Excellent food as always :).
The food was delicious - meats were well marinated and sauced. Staff were energetic and service was great.
So amazing, try it!!! They do not have an all you can eat option but they have happy hour daily. Their Kobe was so good!
We had a group of 5 going for lunch on Sunday. We had to reserve online. It was hard to get a reservation for noon. We had a good experience with Gyu-Kaku at Honolulu location a week ago, so we wanted to try the Cupertino location. This is definitely 1-2 stars below the Honolulu location.
The meat quality was not as good. The steak was tough. We were seated outside, so the grill electric. The temperature is not as high as the gas grill. It was a different experience. I expect they source the meat differently, but it does not explain why the marinated meat was too salty in general. We ordered 2 ramen for kids. It is strange that one of the ramen came out way to salty. I do not understand why the other ramen is OK.
Great seating next to the patio door. Good selection of items during happy hour. Staff energetic and nice.
The food and service VERY GOOD. But RECEPTIONIST, she is not nice and no courtesy. I know it's my fault that one person at the party was late because of the traffic jam, we never know what will happen on the road. She said we had to wait until it was full to get in, we were happy to wait but since I was pregnant and in the last weeks of pregnancy I was really tired, my brother saw it so he went in. I told her we could go in first because I was very tired, it was very hot outside in the summer. She agreed and let us in to a table that could only seat 4 people and she even said that if another person comes she can't even let us sit at our table, that's funny, if so why would she let us in first. My brother came out and told her we have 1 more on our way, we can't sit at a table of 4, she said if so had to wait outside, but when she came out she knew we had already ordered food and she couldn't change the table, I had to call my brother who was on the way to tell me not to come anymore because even if I came, I couldn't have seat. I feel SO SO BAD, we rarely have a full family meal, and my brothers want to eat with me before I give birth, my family is really disappointed in the behavior of that girl, a restaurant with very good service but a rude and disrespectful receptionist.
We had meat lovers. Excellent service and food. Great idea for date night!
There is traditional Japanese style BBQ in Bay Area. We as 4 family member visit this place yesterday. Food is nice and service is excellent. Only issue will be the place is a little bit too noisy, but it should be no problem since they their seat is almost full all the time. Highly recommend yakinku place.
Compare with other BBQ restaurant, It is over price and the food amount is quite small.
It is not worth the price.
Came here before heading to sf. Absolutely love the quality and marinate of meat. Our waiter was an absolute gem and helped a lot with meat marinate choices/recommendations. Hooked us up w free s’mores at the end which was super kind! I would come back here if I live in the area or are in the area.
We got there right before Happy Hour ended (at 6PM) so all of our food and drinks were pretty well discounted!
The meats and vegetables were all good and the beer was served in an ice cold mug.
Not a fine dining experience, but still enjoyable and a decent value at Happg Hour.
First the ingredient is not fresh. Second, the service is not good, because they are waiters and they are divided into areas, one person is responsible for several tables (very busy), if you are indoor the service should be better than the outdoor.
They ran outta items that we ordered and they just replaced them without asking us. We don’t like spicy and they just replaced something they didn’t have and they replaced it with spicy beef without asking.
Always a great spot. Our favorite go to. Been going there for years!
our usual meat cut was not good. it was hard and crunchy. tasted like tendon or cartilage. not like prime kalbi.
Food was not as good as I remember and is severely overpriced compared to rival establishments. However, the service was fine given that they were short staffed due to covid.
Food was not that great but we have to wait for long time for food to come . Expensive for the quality that we have received
Staff was customer friendly
Food prep didn’t take long
Food was super delicious
Everything looked clean and tidy
Oh and beer was nice and cold
Good food and service. The menu has changed and so has happy hour.
We wanted sushi and sake so this was better than expected
Very different dining experience compared to pre COVID. Missing items, smaller portions, and service could have been better.
It was. A busy day for any restaurant but that should have been expected. Frustrated servers don’t make things better either.
Nonetheless we’ll come back, times are still tough for everyone and adjustment isn’t easy.
Super small portions, also the next day we checked our credit card and they over charger the tip by $11 extra. WE will never comeback to the restraunt
Went there for Mother’s Day dinner. The experience was good, although the prix fixe menu for the Mother’s Day dinner may have been a bit overpriced compared to the regular prix fixe options. It appeared that they rotated servers as a COVID precaution but they never communicated this so it was confusing as to who our server was at a given moment.
But service was good, and the food was great, it was a really good experience.
Service was not great. Felt rushed and didn’t remember our order. We waited forever for drinks. Serving sizes were not worth the price.
We always enjoy Gyu-Kaku, and last Wednesday's dinner was no exception. Great slices of beef, which our guest from Kobe enjoyed greatly. There is excellent fried calamari, chilled beer and great service by the hostess and particularly by our waiter, Jamie.
Only criticism is the noise level, often making conversation difficult. It was a warm night, so we were seated by a fan, but unfortunately also near the kitchen, where we were treated to the ambience of Mexican Banda music, which ordinarily I love, but out of place in Japanese restaurant.
Nonetheless, we'll be back!
Excellent place to go to with the family or as a couple, not noisy at all it’s really relaxing.
This used to be a fun place to dine. The quality of the food is inconsistent. Sometimes the meats are cut too thick and the marinade/sauce for the meats are not evenly applied like it used to be. They are also rather stingy on the sauces so we end up having to ask for more. Wet wipes/towels are no longer provided. Hopefully when this pandemic is over, the fun times will be back.
Service was extremely slow. The call button did not even work. Had to flag down a waiter 3 times to get help.
Saturday date night- honestly expected food to be better. The meat was way to salty and overall sweet. I only thing that was good there was the s’mores. The service was nice overall but they forgot my sake and my order. Would I go back? Hmm not anymore I would rather go to all you can eat or a better bbq place.
Been a while since I last ate here and glad Covid-19 rules are loosening for indoor dining. Food was actually tastier than I remember. Wife and I shared butter mushrooms, shrimp garlic noodles, beef tongue, short ribs, basil chicken and kalbi. Service was friendly and attentive. Unfortunately the beef and chicken sushi rolls which GK sent me an announcement on is not available in Cupertino. These are what we really wanted to try. Corporate should be aware of this oversight to avoid creating unfulfilling expectations in patrons.
Great service and great food
Loved it. Would go again. Went for my anniversary.
I felt comfortable dining there. Reservations are required, and they adhere to the safety guidelines that are established. Tables are well spaced apart for the patio dining. There is ample air circulation as the patio is not fully enclosed, and they do use heaters to keep diners warm during the cool eve/nights. Service/ordering has been modified, service is still friendly, welcoming and efficient. Most tables now use tabletop butane grills instead of the in-table version. Overall the dining experience is still good and enjoyable.
Usually super good service. Would definitely recommend staying away from weekend dinner time as it is a hit or miss on terms of service (aka waiting 40+ minute for food and/or actual service). However, when they are on point this is definitely the go-to. I recommend the umakara meats (all of them) as they tend to be the tastiest. Cheese corn for an "appetizer" is great and I usually always recommend it to my friends who get it every time now.
Terms of drinks, they always seem to be out of the smoothie sangrias which is a shame but it is up there for those who like a more fruity/sweet alcoholic drink. Don't forget to utilize their app as after you get hooked on this place as those extra 15-25$ discounts from the app after a few trips adds up!
Staff is great, service is great. The outdoor seating area is big and well kept. One of my favorite places to dine in Cupertino
The experience was great! The food was amazing, and the restaurant is going above and beyond when deal with covid regulations. Parties were dispersed, and made customers feel comfortable with dining.
Their indoor seating was well spaced out and all the staff wore masks. Food came out super fast and was tasty!
We had dinner on the patio and I have to say I have never felt as comfortable dining during Covid. I felt very safe.
Food and service was good as always. Bit pricey but i guess you get what you pay for.
