A really nice and tasty Sunday lunch. Starter selection wasn’t really as appealing or varied as expected but still nice
Loved the food and the ambience at Heaney’s. We had the shared taster menu which was sumptuous and just the right amount to send you into a food coma of sorts. Our waiter Cameron was very polite, courteous and informative. Highly recommend this place.
Lunch. Not busy - 3 tables, but service was too slow. Vegan menu portions are tiny and very expensive for vegetables. Wine by the glass is way too expensive.
Background music is intrusive. Why do restaurants persist? Especially when they have wooden floors, etc.
On the plus side, the set lunch menu was excellent - the oxtial starter and hake in batter were both delicious. Portions are a bit small. I would have liked a few chips too.
Service was friendly - just too slow between the main and dessert. Sometimes this is appropriate, but diners should be asked. I had to prompt.
Great restaurant, lovely food and great staff. Would 100% recommend.
A birthday lunch on a Tuesday, only 3 tables taken so ambience probably much better on weekend evening.
Wonderful food - unexpected flavours and beautifully presented. Excellent wine and great service. Not cheap but worth the money. We all had the tasting menu which was very enjoyable. Highly recommended.
Another fantastic Sunday lunch at Heaneys. Food was excellent as always and the staff are so helpful and accommodating. Our favourite lunch in Cardiff! Thank you all
We went for a Sunday lunch. Service was good throughout, there was no delay with our courses coming on time. We had an extra taster of clam crevice , which was delicious in addition to the 3 courses. Starters and desserts were very tasty and the portion size was right. I was surprised to have two potato dishes with main course ( roast and mashed). All our meats were ideal in texture and taste. Carrots lovely. The Yorkshire pudding however was cold and hard and large. My partner thought he was ordering an Argentinian Mendoza Malbec wine but it was an Argentinian combination of grapes including Malbec so he was disappointed (it was clearly described as a combination of grape wine on the menu and the waitress did point out the NZ alternative Malbec. My biggest bugbear was the pop music playing in the background. I asked if it could be changed to something quieter or classical but told it wasn’t possible. However I think the noise level was turned down though later it seemed a bit louder. I would go back for the food again but not for the music...
The restaurant felt cold & it wasn’t a particularly cold evening!..
The staff that served us where helpful & friendly. The food was very tasty!.. the wine was very drinkable but expensive!.. the cocktails where great!.. would go again but will have to save my money!
Enjoyable afternoon with lovely.
Wine seemed expensive at £9 for 175ml glass
Seasonal, inventive food served in smart but comfortable surroundings. Definitely try the tasting menu - you won’t be disappointed.
2 course for £25 on a Sunday. We had the mackerel / the oxtail which melted in the mouth to start and then lamb/ beef roasts for main which were equally delightful. Lots of vegetables to share and plenty of gravy.
A very curious experience and very much a mixed bag. Some members of staff were extremely professional, courteous and helpful; in essence outstanding. However one waiter was dreadful-I asked for a chair to rest my broken leg such that I could elevate it, but he was not interested and came back to say that he could not think of a single object that could be of assistance-really!?
We were also somewhat surprised to learn having been sat down for 30 minutes of the need to choose multiple dishes from an extremely limited menu. Some dishes were outstanding, others seemed to be more about the chef's ability than palatability.
This turned out as a consequence to be an extremely expensive evening in a very noisy environment. Worth experiencing once, but once is probably enough.
Great food but the portions on the taster menu which we shared as per the waitress recommendation were tiny. We wouldn’t go back on that basis as it was very expensive for very little food. If they charged the same price for a full portion each it would make it a great place to eat. My husband is a chef and we travel the country trying out top restaurants so this isn’t someone being unrealistic about portion sizes.
Coming from London, I have expectations - all were met. Top class food, excellent service staff, all knowledgable and passionate. Highly recommended for a quality treat.
Outstanding! Booked Heaney's the prior evening based on reviews. The standard of the food was excellent, great service and a nice atmosphere. We had the shared tasting menu - delicious! We'd definitely go back next time we're in Cardiff.
Always a pleasure...so much so, that if we don't eat here at least once a week, we have withdrawal symptoms 😋
Tommy Heaney tweaks the menu regularly and his food is always seasonal, so we can eat here regularly and still be delighted with new dishes ❤
The food is excellent value, given it's consistently high quality and originality, and Heaneys has a good selection of wines including some excellent Coravin vintages 🍷
Tommy and Nikki have wonderful front of house staff, who quickly remembered our preferences which gives the restaurant a friendly, personal atmosphere...we almost feel part of the family having eaten here regularly for nearly a year 😘
We love Heaneys and have no hesitation in recommending this restaurant...do try it...you won't regret it 👍
We added an extra course to the 3 course lunch and it was superb. Courses are not large but incredibly well put together. Best value in Cardiff.
The food was excellent, especially the BBQ Chicken (the platonic ideal of BBQ Chicken, juicy, smoky and reminiscent of summer barbecues on the beach), the Hake was fantastic, well cooked and rich, with a lovely taste of garlic mixed with the fresh creamy, acidity of the buttermilk sauce. Fantastic service from the lovely staff, friendly and helpful throughout the whole meal. Wonderfully catering to a Coeliac’s gluten free diet. The only, mild, and I (emphasise mild) problem we had, was a small draft where we were sitting.
Only two places in Cardiff you can get an experience like this.
Pip Lacey as well in the kitchen.
Excellent food and service! Would highly recommend their Sunday lunch menu.
Not my first visit to Heaneys but my first Sunday lunch and we will definitely go back.
Superb food and lovely atmosphere.
Perfect for my birthday celebrations.
We had a really lovely experience at Heaneys and, being relatively new to the area, we didn't really have any expectations about the food or the restaurant before we got there... but WHAT A PLACE! We couldn't fault it - amazing food, my partner said it was some of the best fish he'd ever eaten (and he's a huge foodie!). The service was excellent and the restaurant itself was beautifully decorated and had a really great atmosphere and ambiance. Great value for money and we will no doubt be back again soon!
Food was great.....service was a bit slow. Overall I would come again.
Great food, really high quality.
Nice and charm, very recomendable.
A truly fabulous dining experience. We had the special set lunch last Saturday and although very busy, the service and food was truly excellent and incredible value. Literally combing through the diary to make an excuse to come again. I was dining with my very particular french brother in law and I have never heard him rave so much. Thank you
Always enjoy the taster
If I were to criticize I find the wine expensive
We chose the chefs taster menu rather than having to choose from an amazing selection - though not big portions, there were so many courses that we felt we had a substantial meal by the end of it! Really delicious too, a good vibe, great service. Definitely would like to go back but more of an occasion meal as it’s such a treat
Really enjoyed our first visit to Heaney's in Cardiff, staff, food and ambience excellent. Will certainly return.
The only downside is parking near to the restauarant which can be difficult as most areas are reserved for permit holders.
Nonetheless, definitely worth a visit.
Amazing food in a relaxed atmosphere.
