After five years, the lights are back on at the historic Herbert Arms. Nestled in the picturesque village of Chirbury on the Shropshire-Mid Wales border, this 18th-century coaching inn has been beautifully restored to its place at the heart of the community.

Under the expert leadership of award-winning publicans Matt Tommey and Ailsa Edwards, The Herbert Arms offers a perfect blend of tradition and quality. A great restaurant. The service was impeccable. It was noisy, it was Saturday night but that was just about ok. Where we sat was not a room for an intimate dinner. This is my second visit but I was a guest the first time where the food was fabulous. I had a fillet steak and it was perfect. This time I had prawn and chorizo tagliatelle and it was very ‘English!’ The sauce needed more flavour and there was that awful sour tin tomato flavour in the background. Maybe too many holidays to Italy has spoilt me but tomato sauce needs a lot of reducing until it splits with lots of red wine and garlic THEN add the flavours. But my friend had the seabream and it was excellent. The crème brûlée was beautiful. Will def go again.

The Herbert Arms was a great find follow in an ad on Facebook for their fantastic value steak night. We have been back nearly every week since and have enjoyed their regular menu and a Greek mezze night. The staff have been friendly and efficient on every occasion, even when we were a party of 10. A varied menu menu contains something for everyone and there’s an interesting drinks menu with local wines and beers.

My experience was great.Spot on with everything. Food ,Service was excellent. Sunday lunch one of the best I have had out. I will definitely be going again.
