Hofbrauhaus St Louis-Belleville
Amazing food and great service. This is always worth a trip. It even feels like a real Bavarian beer hall because of the tables with long benches on either side, replicating the possibility of shared tables just like in pubs and beer halls in Europe, making the atmosphere super authentic, just like the food.
Food was good, but service was very slow.
Outstanding food and ambiance. Beer is fantastic. We’ve visited this location many times over the past year and have always enjoyed. Had our group of 16 family members for day after Thanksgiving celebration and had a superb experience. Reserved in advance thru the app and was seated within 10 mins of arrival. Very nicely decorated for Christmas season, lots of holiday spirit. Linda took excellent care of our large party - had several family who were visiting their first time and came away loving it. Can’t wait to visit again over the holidays!!
Food quality was not good. Meat was tough and tasteless. Beer was so so. Pretzels were great. We were brought two things incorrectly; though they did take them off our check. Had to wait quite a bit for beer. This at a beer hall!
Our waiter was the best. He sure made us feel very welcomed and comfortable.
Wonderful Thanksgiving meal. Good food, good service. I highly recommend.
Lovely place!!!! I will recommend anyone to visit this establishment!!!
I would not recommend this place to friends. We had a 7 pm RSVP, when we arrived at 6:55, they seemed surprised about our party of 14. Then when finally seated in a mostly empty restaurant, the hostess just set menus down and walked off, we weren't sure which 2 tables were ours. We didn't finally get drinks till 45 mins after sitting. The food was excellent, and the games provided kept the kids entertained. This was our first time, after hearing about shoddy service in past we avoided. But had family in town for the holiday, they had heard of and wanted to try. Was a disappointing experience.
Our waiter seemed to be overwhelmed, even though it was a Wednesday evening and not very busy. Appetizer came out with the meal. We had to ask for silverware twice. And then a 3rd time as she only brought enough for 2 people and were had 3 people in our group. One of the meals was wrong but since it took almost an hour to get our food we just went with it. It’s a bit pricey for such poor service.
We've eaten at Hofbrahaus restaurants in Newport, KY, Columbus, OH, Cleveland, OH, Pittsburgh, PA and Las Vegas and now the St. Louis location with Newport, KY being our "home" Hofbrahaus if you will.
Every one of the restaurants we've ever eaten at has had amazing food and great service. While the service here was fine and the people were friendly the food was absolutely dismal. The menu is different from the other Hofbrahaus locations and not in a good way. There is no commonality shared with the other restaurant's menu selections. The food with so bad that nobody of the table enjoyed their meal.
The steak was about 1/3 fat and gristle. For $25 I would expect a decent cut of beef. The kraut was extremely salty, and the portion sizes lacked badly.
The other five locations we go to regularly to semi-regularly have a festive, fun atmosphere. While this location was the complete opposite of festive I'm giving them a pass as it was the night before Thanksgiving.
We're huge fans. We collect the 1 liter mugs, and other items. Every location sells the mugs for $12.50 each. Not St. Louis. They're $20 each which is madness. For the first time we passed on the collector mugs due to the stupid expensive price which was the final nail in the huge disappointment coffin for this location.
They only offer a buffet on Sunday ( til 2:00). Took a long time to get our drinks. Too loud.
I would recommend the food, but the front staff was challenging. I made a reservation, but when I got there, I was told the wait was 35 minutes. When I asked what the point of a reservation was, I was told that it's the same for everyone and then got a shrug.
Reserving a table doesn’t actually reserve anything. 1 hour and 15 min wait for two people. Food is a bit overpriced as well. Community seating is a turn off too.
When we arrived at the Hofbrauhaus, the lobby was filled with many waiting for their tables. Since the two young inaattentive boys were doing all their looking up for reservations on a computer device and I do not have a smart phone I told them they would have to verbally let me know when we could be seated. There was much mayhem and confusion in the lobby. One young mother with her husband and 3 young children started to tear up as she was getting NO satisfaction from the front desk. After more than 45 minutes I asked at at the desk when we were going to be called, as many people who arrived after our group of 4, were being seated, the inept boy at the desk told me he had called for me and I did not answer. As I was sitting 10 feet from the counter, I seriously doubted if he had. We then were seated but decided to leave as we were not at all happy. I would NEVER recommend this place. They need to take away their association with all German type things as it is a disgrace to my heritage.
Food was very good. We took a friend who is from Germany and he was very happy with how authentic the food was. Portions were large and service was fast. Live music was loud, but very fun and helped make the atmosphere fun. Don't bother with reservations. We reserved through this site, got to the restaurant 5 minutes early and told they were on a 25 minute wait? 30 minutes past reservation time, we were told we were "2nd in the que". After watching 5 more parties get seated, I asked what was going on and was told we were 2nd in line, but there were 5 MORE tables ahead of us. When I asked the clueless kid at the host stand what he was talking about he said "I don't know, there are walk ins ahead of you and I don't know how much longer the wait will be." At this point, it was 45 minutes AFTER our reservation time. Don't bother reserving, just show up, expect to wait and enjoy the atmosphere.
We are not beer drinkers, we came for the German Food experience. I was not enthused with the food. For prices of 16-$23 per meal I would expect much better.
Though we enjoyed the music, it was so loud that we could not hear each other at our table.
I guess that those who come to drink may appreciate the options available but for the price of food, this trip was disappointing to me.
The highlight for us was our server, Joy W. She was very friendly and knowlegable, I am not sure she ever stopped smiling.
Sunday brunch was great! Loved the convenience of reserving seats through Open Table, and learned the environment is conducive to families with young children. They have a balloon artist on Sundays, and an assortment of board games available to entertain the kids!
The food was mediocre. For the price, I was expecting a better quality. The menu item included cranberries, which was about 1 tablespoon, served in a small plastic sample cup, very disappointing. The German band was so loud, you couldn't even carry on a conversation. Not a fine dining experience.
JaSean (our bartender/server was AMAZING! We loved him.
Loved the food.
Loved the place.
We will be back.
We went for lunch, and it was not crowded at all. The place is huge. Loved the atmosphere! I can’t wait to go back when they have a band! Loved the food , they had a great variety. There’s something for everyone!
This was my second visit with friends.
100% improvement in beer delivery. After getting a huge room temperature mug of beer
apparently poured down the middle to give a perky head I was sad. I never wanted one
on those mugs. They warm the beer and the big head means less carbonation. BUT. . .
Then the Master of the House came by and we learned you order COLD mugs. OKay!
Now I was ready for more beer.
FOOD: Then the food. Incredibly pleased. Super White radish starter. Loved that.
Really loved the Polish waitress, Magdelena, but I'm Polish and biased.
German preparation was a delight. I saw it first online in a video. That got me getting
some Illinois friends to meet us for a dinner. We live in Pacific MO. A worthwhile trip.
A unique venue with an authentic flare. Fun place to take a group!
No music no people. Disappointing for a Saturday night
We were disappointed that there wasn’t a band on a Saturday night.
We were celebrating my mother's borthday. When I asked about bringing a small cat with a candle, the waiter told me they don't do that. I never heard of an establishment like this not doing this.
Hofbrauhaus in Belleville is not the same as Munich, but it is still very fun. They have polka music and toasts and lots of German food. We went for the Sunday brunch. It offered both breakfast and some Germain favorites and everybody in my party was totally full.
Fun place, very loud. Food was good. Bar service was super slow that night. Overall a very fun night.
Great food. Great atmosphere. Unique. Too loud, though! Difficult to converse.
I came to your restaurant last night for the first time and probably the last. We were a group of 15 and had reservations. The service was TERRIBLE. One waiter for our group, while others waitresses were not busy. Not very many people in restaurant. It took 90 minutes for our appetizers to arrive and then they were cold. Beer steins 3/4 full and not cold. I ordered a sausage dinner and was shocked to see sausage the size of my little finger and 2 HOT DOGS, which were cold. Others got their food and had to ask about the sides. I was shocked—what a disaster. You lost future business of our group.
We arrived for our 12:30 reservation and our table was set up and ready. It was not crowded but it was busy. Our waitress arrived within a reasonable amount of time though our appetizer arrived before our silverware and napkins. Quickly rectified.
The food was out in a very reasonable amount of time and the beer was tasty. The check was split and the waitress handled it with no effort in a timely fashion. I would recommend Hofbrauhaus and I would go back. The food portions are quite generous.
Food was great. Absolutely no music. October fest and no music all evening on a Saturday.
We have been to the original restaurant. No contest! Our food was cold our server was rude. There was no music! Our waiter was fabulous. We felt bad for him. Probably won’t go back for a while. Go to the other German restaurant.
Josh was our server and he was great! Very friendly and attentive. We went this past Saturday for our 5:30 reservations and we left at 7:20. No music or entertainment, which surprised us on a Saturday night. This was our first time there and it was highly recommended by friends. The food was awful, with the exception of the warm pretzel with delicious dips we had as an appetizer. We spent $26 on a huge, pork dish that was absolutely gross. Most of it was fat and what meat I ate was gross. The pork dish my husband ordered was slightly better, but not yummy, at all. My son said his burger was not that good. The patrons that sat next to us indicated they didn't bring their sons because they didn't like the burgers, either. Your venue is beautiful. We were expecting to hear some good ole fashioned German oompa music while we ate delicious food. A little over $100 for yucky food. NEVER AGAIN!!!!
This is the place to go in the St. Louis area if you want a German meal in a German atmosphere with lots of German music. it is loud but the musicians actually spend time in the audience. the beer is great but can be ordered in 1 liter large steins, too much for a moderate or novice drinker. Smaller portions are available
We had a group of 25 and most of them were disappointed with the food. When we have a group this size we don't expect great service, but still expect the food to be good. Two of the people said the buns were stale and hard to cut through with a knife, my food as well as many others I talked with was cold when it was brought out. They brought out mine and my wife's potato pancakes at least 5 minutes before our main food came and they were already cold when they brought them. The atmosphere is excellent, but overall very disappointed and probably will not return.
Food was amazing as was the Beer. Service was fast and friendly. The shot of Apple Schnapps for my birthday was very good as well. We will definitely be going back in the future.
Went to enjoy good food and ambiance with friends whonwe had traveled to Germany with years ago. Was sadly disappointed as the main dining hall was way to loud to have a conversation, server was slow to take our order, drinks were slow to get refills, and the food was subpar. Had much better food at other local German restaurants. We definetly did not get the same experience as we had in German. Save your money and partronize the smaller german restauranteurs.
This was our first time at Hofbrauhaus. They had just had Octoberfest over the weekend so by the time we went on Sunday evening they were out of food, and the service was not good. One of the people in our party received the wrong food order, and they were out of the next two choices he asked for. The menu isn't that big to start with and by the time he got his food the rest of us were finished eating. If you want to go someplace and drink beer and listen to a German band this would be a good place.
The food was great, but it took 2+ hours to get finish our meal. I enjoyed the live music, but it was very loud and after 2 hours, we had had enough.
You need to check it out at least once, even if its just for beer and pretzels! They accommodated for our large group, which was fabulous, however, it went downhill from there. Took over an hour for food, not many refills given and only one wait staff for a group of 15. Food didn't come out spectacular.
