Great food and great service. Best place around.
One of my favorite restaurants! Lovely food and people...
Holdren’s Newbury Park is a true neighborhood gem. Everything is great here. I’m partial to Filet Mignon and it’s always excellent. And then there’s the bar! Nice selection of beers. Stellar wine list. Great cocktails and a better-than-average spirits selection. Don’t forget dessert!
The four of us had a great meal at Holdren's. The fillets were excellent cuts of meat and done to medium perfection. The sea bass was another terrific dish. Kelly, our server, did an outstanding job keeping us more than happy with her attitude and fine service. An overall great meal and evening.
Had the lamb, was cooked perfectly (special with crusted outside) was lacking a little flavor, but tender, potatoes were ok.
Wife had filet bites and Brussel sprouts very tasty. Service was very good. Waiter has a great personality Handsel!
Great go to local steak house, great drinks and food. Great value!
I have dined here numerous times. Consistently great.
We love Holdrens. Our fave in Newbury Park. Consistent and wonderful staff.
For a 4:30 reservation, I wasn’t very happy with a two-top table setting just around the corner in the smaller room just to the right of the entrance. By the time we left, about 6:10, there were still several tables empty in the main dining room...offering much better ambience.
Honestly this was start to finish the best meal I’ve had. The Ahi tartar was phenomenal, the steak and shrimp were perfect, creme brûlée amazing... fantastic.
This dinner was a major disappointment. I ordered a medium rare16oz Ribeye steak topped with sliced mushrooms and a red wine demi glaze. The steak was to be accompanied by a twice-baked potato. The dinner was also to start with a seafood chowder. The seafood chowder tasted very bland and pasty, almost like it was thickened with flour and tasted of it. To me, it lacked anything that looked or tasted like, well, seafood. The Ribeye was served a bit cooler than I would have expected, but the real issue was that it was VERY tough and hard to eat. The twice-baked potato was just plain cool to the touch and was immediately returned to the kitchen to be heated so it could be served a hot side dish. I suppose I could have taken the steak home to use as a chew toy for my dogs, but I decided to turn it back to the kitchen and not ask for another as I feared that it was the quality of the steak not the cook on it that I didn't care for. On a positive note, the manager comp'd a mud pie desert that was exceptional. I think that if this place re-branded itself as a dessert spot it would get rave reviews.
We got to our reservation early and were seated within minutes!! Our server was very friendly and diligent about taking care of us and making sure our Valentine’s meal was perfect! Thank you so much, Holdren’s!!
Had a great Valentine’s Day dinner. Always delicious and reasonably priced. Great service as well!
Really great food and service, never disappoints. Our go to place for a great dining experience
Very nice 4-course Valentines Day dinner. The appetizer, soup, and dessert choices were excellent - nicely prepared and delicious. The entree was very tasty.
Yummy food. The serving of my cioppino was enormous and spicy and filled with seafood. My husband loved his steak and lobster and the Thursday discounted price for his meal was a bargain. I’m not sure if there is always a Thursday special (?). We will definitely return.
Lunch was delicious! I got the bbq chicken wrap and the vegetable soup. I didn’t leave a crumb! Service was speedy and our server was very helpful. I will definitely be back!
High end dining experience, moderate prices and Excellent Food.
We ate every bite, delicious!
I have lived in Newbury Park for over 50 years. Holdren's is by far my favorite place to celebrate in all of Ventura County. Their Wednesday night prime rib is the best and they always have a great supply of fresh fish. You you have a big enough appetite oder the scallops appetizer, as you will love it. To top off everything they had fresh blue cheese stuffed olives for my martini.
Always quality steak at a reasonable price. Way better than the chains which are the only other steak houses to choose from around here
Manessah was an awesome server. We have only been to Holdren’s once before and he took the time to explain the menu and drinks to us. He was very helpful and just overall really kind. Waters were never empty and food was served quickly and delicious. Great experience!
Good food, good ambience.
We reserved a table at Holdren's a few hours before our reservation time. We had indicated that we were celebrating (though we didn't say what) and we wanted a booth. When we arrived at our reservation time our booth was ready and we didn't have to wait to be seated.
Once at our table, service was great and we were served our drinks and bread in a timely manner. We then ordered and my husband and I both ordered their Tuesday night special of "Surf and Turf", which in my opinion is a fabulous deal! It came with soup or salad along with a side and a top sirloin steak and skewer of bacon wrapped prawns. We also ordered a side of sautéed mushrooms...so good! Highly recommend them! The steak was cooked to perfection, which I have found to be a common challenge for restaurants lately. The rest of the food was great and had tons of flavor. Our water glass was continually filled throughout our stay and our waitress made sure we were happy with our food and had everything we needed. At the end of our meal we were brought a Happy Anniversary cheesecake (it wasn't our anniversary). No fault of theirs, because they didn't know what we were celebrating. Nonetheless, we all had a chuckle over it. It was a wonderful way to finish off our celebration with the tasty cheesecake and acknowledgment from the staff knowing it was a special occasion. Our celebration night was perfect, thanks to Holdren's. We will be back.
Wonderful meal except we brought 2 bottles of wine and they charged corkage on both. Most restaurants usually only charge 1.
Outstanding Restaurant! Holdren's is our family's favorite place for dining. The service was impeccable and the food as usual was delicious.
My wife and I visited Holdren's on a Thursday (with reservations) to enjoy their their happy hour and nightly special (filet mignon and lobster tail). Unfortunately, there were multiple parties booked that evening. Seating was a struggle! The quality of the filet was very poor. Both or ours seemed to be pre-cooked, very dry, and not filet at all! We have enjoyed several prior meals at Holdren's, but this visit was very bad. We are not returning customers!
Food and service always the best! Noise level was too high.
Have frequented this establishment many time over five years. Food consistently good, service less so. Prices slightly higher than average for fine dining in our area. The happy hour choices are nicely diverse and the bartenders friendly. One area of improvement- more consistent dinner service quality and attention. Also ambient noise levels can get too loud here.
Great food. Great service. And great atmosphere.
Food was awesome. Scott, our waiter, made this a great experience! Love this place!
Unfortunately the female manager refused to take our gift certificate that our neighbors in Thousand Oaks bought us at the This Holdren’s in Thousand Oaks for us claiming that because it had the logo “Holdren’s of Santa Barbara” on it she wouldn’t accept it. Really crazy position to take, and blatantly dishonest! Very sad that she did this! They saved $50 that night but lost a boatload more! We won’t be back and will spread the word about these tactics!
Amazing food always & great wine list. Terrific service all the time.
First time here, and was very happy with everything. Service was wonderful, and the food is great. We will be coming back very soon.
We really enjoyed our meal at Holdren's. our waiter Charles was fantastic, did not rush us and was attentive , we will definitely come back again!! The food was wonderful!!!
The service was very good. Our waiter Scott was very attentive. The food was ok. My 6 oz filet was over cooked. I ordered it medium rare and it was more medium. My husband’s ribeye was cooked good but was excessively fatty. The garlic mashed potatoes did not have much garlic flavor and tasted artificial. The brussel sprouts were very tender but had an odd seafood flavor instead of garlic, shallots & olive oil.
Food & service very good. Was very noisy & crowded
I ordered filet mignon medium rare. The meat was cooked medium and a bit tough.
The food at Holdren’s is fabulous. The only issue was the host, who was unfriendly and bordering on rude. Very surprising. I hope it was just an off-day for him.
Went on a Monday and they have all you can eat baby back ribs. You get a soup or salad to start and one side with your order. They start with a half rack and then you just order more from your server as you’re ready. The ribs themselves were really good, I didn’t even need my knife for them since the meat just fell off the bone. Great food for a great price, I will definitely be going back and I recommend it.
