House Without a Key
Less friendly servers than expected considering it’s a touristy place. It was supposed to be my birthday dinner but no candle on a birthday cake or anything was offered. Entertainment was very good though and the coconut cake was hands down.
The food here was delicious, our waiter was attentive though not overly friendly (which is completely fine), and the music entertainment was enjoyable. The hula dancer was only out for about 10-15 minutes of our 1.5 hour dinner, which was disappointing, but the music/band that played the whole time was terrific and fun! We went for our anniversary dinner and were happy with our choice.
What a lovely time! Live Hawaiian music, tons of ambiance, and sits right on the water. Service was excellent - I requested through the app to have outdoor seating and the hostess sat us as close to the music as possible
Our waiter was also great and full of suggestions. We even got a shoutout from the band for our anniversary! The famous Mai Tais and coconut cake were to die for. Valet parking is free when you eat at the restaurant.
We were excited to spend our last evening in a ten day trip at this recommended restaurant. We made reservations for 8 several days in advance. When we arrived our table was literally stuck in the middle of the main thoroughfare of kitchen and bar traffic. It was hot because we were situated so far into the restaurant and surrounded by walls. There was no view of the ocean and no breeze. Food was average. We ordered a variety of appetizers and entrees. The chicken/ pork is not what you expect. It is wrapped in leaves and cooked. The meat was dry and had the flavor of the leaves it was cooked in. The best things we ordered were a Cesar salad and the burger. Cocktails were good. Service was fair. This was a very expensive average meal.
Our server, Thomas, was very good. He arranges for the hula dancer to come over and meet our daughter who was born in Hawaii, but hadn’t been here for 12 years since she left when she was three. Food was good, but not great. Great ambience with a shower that blessed us with a beautiful rainbow over Diamond Head.
Went there for Father's Day lunch since Orchids was booked. View was nice although wish we could have gotten a slightly better table where all of us could enjoy the view.
It's a more casual restaurant so we were slightly overdressed. Food is pricey and taste is average. Nothing to write home about. The staff was just okay...not overly friendly, not overly helpful. Most of them seem bored at their jobs to be honest.
The birds run free there and are very aggressive. They will walk on your table and eat your food so be careful. Made us wonder if birds were walking all over our table and bread plates prior to us sitting down. Gross.
Will we return? Maybe. But my first choice will be Orchids.
The mochi pancakes were cold & hard. There weren’t too many breakfast meat choices. Loved the omelette station. Loved the coffee.
absolutely fantastic experience, delicious food and Joe made sure the service provided was outstanding.
Highly recommend this place especially for evening drinks at the sunset/ dinner.
Food is terrific and ambiance is tops!
Anytime at The House without a Key is an enjoyable experience. I live at the Ilikai and always make sure to take any guests to eat there when in Honolulu. I and my friends have lunch there as often as possible. the food is always excellent and the service the same. Plus it is a beautiful setting.
Thanks for always meeting my expectations.
Absolutely recommend this wonderful restaurant! The location couldn't be more perfect if you're looking for higher end, beach front dining with live music. The food was excellent and our server was very attentive. Whenever I am able to return to the Waikiki area, I will definitely be back here!
I went there with my guest from Japan. Everything was great except food. They should have foods that go well with wine and champagne.
Delicious and healthy food offerings, island ambiance at its finest, and impeccable service is the reason we dine at House Without a Key when we visit Honolulu. No other restaurant has all three...plus the oceanfront view and complimentary parking. We will continue to frequent it as often as we're able. That my sister-in-law works there is also a great recommendation in itself.
Great food, the best Mai Tai’s. The coconut cake for dessert is always delicious. This was the fifth time I have dined here this year. If I lived in Hawaii, the number would be higher.
Wonderful evening with great food, relaxing music and a fabulous view!
Not very good
About the only thing I could say is that my wife and I had a thoroughly wonderful evening. food was excellent, timing was great (gave us plenty of time to enjoy drinks and music before bringing out our food). Never rushed us, we were able to kick back and enjoy the music and hula for the evening. If I had any suggestion, it would have been to have the music a little louder, hard to hear, could not understand the talking between songs, and we were in the middle of the place.
Without a doubt the best restaurant we ate at out of our 8 days we spent in the islands. Our server Ian, was delightful and knowledgeable in regards to the menu, as well as offering suggestions on must see spots on Oahu. Also the live music and hula was such a treat! This will always be our first stop for dinner when returning to Waikiki! What a special place this is!
A night out in Honolulu during family vacation. The site was perfect. The food was good - not great. The drinks were good. The dessert was fabulous. Coconut cake and key lime pie!
We went in for our daughter’s birthday. We were placed at a great table with the best view of Diamond Head. The server made our daughter feel very special and brought a cake at the end. She also received a lei from the hula dancer. Overall, the food was delicious and the service amazing. The ambiance was great with the light Hawaiian music played by a live band. We had a beautiful time!
Beatifull place to celebrate something or to have romantic dinner. Please do not miss sunset time. For us it was first dinner and in Oahu and in Hawaii and it was very good start for our Hawaiian holidays.
Can’t imagine a better venue for alfresco dining on Oahu! Impeccable and most helpful service from Mellissa. Great live music and ocean spray behind the band. Not the largest menu, but nice selection.
great view & stage!!!
Perfect for an anniversary. The food and service was great. Live music and hula dancer was very entertaining. To top it off they treated us to a slice of cake because it was out anniversary. Couldn’t recommend this place anymore.
There are many excellent things about this restaurant that will bring me back. But...this time the place was almost completely empty, but we had to wait to be seated for a lengthy time even thought we had a reservation. After being served the wait staff did not come back to check, and we couldn’t get anyone’s attention for something that my guest needed for her meal. And, then there were the birds! The waiter said upper management knows the problem, but no solution yet! One of the birds landed on me guest’s rice!! I have been to this restaurant and to Orchids many times and really enjoy both except for this time. I was disappointed! My guest enjoyed her LauLau and coconut cake as she is a former HI resident and now lives where she can’t get either one! Hope things are better the next time I come!
Wonderful atmosphere. Great food. Friendly courteous staff.
Beautiful ambiance! Food could be a bit better and more of a selection. Service was amazing.
Such a wonderful place, the location is amazing as if the service and the food. I love House Without a Key and very much recommend this spot to others.
Outstanding food and superb service, would highly recommend
The food was amazing. I'm a salad person, so I basically order salad at every restaurant that I go to. In this case, I found the salad to be very expensive for the ingredients that it contained. I ordered the cobb salad with an add on of shrimp. The shrimp was small and only 5 pieces. I believe it was an additional $12 just for the shrimp. So the total price of the salad was $32. The flavor was great and so was the presentation. I just think it was over priced for a salad.
Beautiful setting, attentive wait staff, delicious food.
Beautiful along the beach dining experience. Food was excellent, live hawaiian music was very pleasant to set the mood, and staff were attentive.
