Hungry Angelina - Long Beach
I really enjoyed Hungry Angelina! The food was superb and just down right delicious! Staff were so kind and I loved the decor of the restaurant. It was just a beautiful day!
The food and service was fantastic. My friend is a vegan and we loved the food. I highly recommend Hungry Angelina for the food and the service.
Fabulous Dinner, every dish was a delight to the palate. We loved the ambiance, the staff, and the attention to detail and service......
Pricey but beautifully presented and delicious plates of bao, truffle rigatoni and gnocchi. A little loud on the music but loved the space. Not sure why all our food came out at once, server disorganized or confused? Great addition to Long Beach’s vegan options!
We had dinner here on Valentine’s Day, so I expected it to be busier than average and we waited a little bit for our reservation. No big deal. My date is a vegan, although I’m an omnivore, and I found this restaurant through the positive reviews. The food was good. We had the sushi for an appetizer which was very good. We also ordered the tikka masala and the flat bread supreme pizza. I enjoyed the pizza; the vegan sausage on it was tasty and the ‘cheese’ (although it didn’t fool me as being mozzarella) was pleasant and flavorful. The tikka masala was alright. It wasn’t bad, it just didn’t have much going on besides the taste of curry. We shared a banana split for desert. Very good. The texture of the ice cream was good, just a touch towards the sorbet side, but the flavors were spot on and not overly sweetened. The ‘whipped cream’ was perfect. Keep in mind my opinions are based on me being an “omnivore” and I eat everything. My date who is a vegan, had very similar opinions to mine. The prices are what I would consider very reasonable for a trendy restaurant.
The interior and atmosphere is very trendy and modern. Seems like the kind of place Gwenyth Paltrow would be seen in, and in fact most of the customers looked like 20-something actors. The staff were very attentive and friendly and the service was quick. If I had to give any criticism to the dining experience, it would be that the music was too loud and we had to speak in raised voices to have a conversation over dinner. The tables were a bit on the small side to hold the plates and everything. But that might be different on a less busy evening. Overall, I’d recommend this place, especially if you’re a group where not everyone is a vegan.
Had a great time trying new vegan options.
Service was helpful for us as we are new to the vegan scene.
Space inside is aesthetic and open.
Trying too hard and coming off pretentious. I sensed the arrogance as we walked in when two dolled-up gals asked the host to park their twin dog stroller behind her host's stand. I can overlook that because excellent plant-based food is hard to find in the southernmost tip of Long Beach. But that food unfortunately missed the mark for us.
Kale Cobb salad had excellent greens and dressing. The corn and avo were surprisingly dull and the tempeh bacon was too sweet and of average consistency. We both felt the greens and dressing alone were worthy of their own stand-alone dish. Together it didn't coalesce into its intended target.
Hawaiian flatbread was a miss as well. The gluten-less crust should've been a red flag for my gluten and crust loving belly but I figured if this guy Matthew Kenney is so badass that he doesn't even need to cross his E's and H's in his name (check the parent company's logo) than he must do a stellar GF crust. Not so. The tempeh bacon made a second appearance but this time it went into the oven and returned completely dried out. The minimalist approach to the pineapple, jalapeno and Daiya-like cheese shreds sadly made the the small square slices wilt upon picking up, likely due to the GF factor. This was neither a dish that would satisfy a vegan nor convert a meat eater. Fun side note, this small and overpriced pizza costs roughly $45 per square feet!
I was told to try the gnocchi pomodoro and admit I would still like to since the server told us she's Sicilian and she approves. Although I'm not sure if she's someone to trust - she said Little Women was a funny movie and that it was a "concept film." Still shaking my head.
Beer note: If you are opening a hip and highly-curated menu, please choose a more thoughtful brew than Lost Coast Indica. 2001 called and asked why you only using one beer distributor?
Please go visit Seabirds and have quite the opposite experience (except for the beer, seems to be a common issue with vegans 😵)
Overall, this was a really nice aesthetic. The ambiance was great, lighting, music and decor were 10/10. The food, it was good but nothing to write home about. My party and I got the bbq jackfruit flatbread , buffalo cauliflower and the crunchy roll . Please bring back the fundido and 2 for 10 rolls!
Delicious food made with high quality ingredients and great customer service. I would only dine here for special occasions due to the price point but worth every penny.
This place is totally amazing, a must-try place going back asap
This is a new restaurant in a new shopping and entertainment facility in eastern Long Beach. The food is thoughtfully prepared and very flavorful especially since it is all "plant based" (no mean feat). The service reflected the minor glitches of a new place but was knowledgeable and friendly. I am particularly impressed with the bar and wine selection. The wines selection is novel with patron friendly pricing. The cocktails and very tasty mocktails are priced to encourage a leisurely experience. Unlike some of the dining options in this facility, this on is indoors!
I have been to three of Matthew Kennedy’s restaurants in New York, most recently for Thanksgiving at Plant Food + Wine in the east village. Oddly enough I hadn’t visited any here in Southern California. So I was excited to hear Hungry Angelina had opened at our new mall in Long Beach on 2nd and PCH. It did not disappoint! I had a California roll and a mushroom truffle burger. Both were delectable. The all vegan wine list was superb...my wife had a Willamette Valley Pinot Noir under the Kenney label. Fantastic. The decor is a sort of retro mid century look with an updated twist and was an invigorating space to dine. Our server Meghan was electric and shared our passion for plant based living. Service was attentive and timely. We will be back again and again, at some point to dine outside with a view of the marina when it warms up a bit (though there were diners outside on the night we went...there are heaters. Can’t recommend Hungry Angelina high enough.
Really tasty for veggie beginners.
The menu was a disappointment and the staff was not well trained but very nice.
One of Matthew Kinney’s best! Food and quality of the restaurant is great for any body and any occasion. Can’t wait for brunch to start this weekend... new favorite spot!
So glad to see Matthew Kenney opening a vegan restaurant in Long Beach. This place is in the new 2nd and PCH mall and the store front is actually on Marina (yes, across the street from all the docked boats). Plan to take a few friends and make a three hour meal out of it, like we did - drove all the way from Los Angeles to try it out. Recommended.
The atmosphere was nice. Our server was lovely. Her name was Amy I believe. Very accommodating. The food was severely sub par. The burgers are not great and mushy and don’t hold up at all. And the sur charge is outrageous. Never been to a restaurant that has had one before. And the excuse for it is absurd. It’s there to just charge you more to help pay rent which is not our responsibility.
Started with the Fundido. It was flavorful but came with only 3 small flour tortillas. I think chips would be a better option and the price was high for such a small amount. My husband liked the sushi. And we also got the gnocchi pomodoro, which was delicious. The flavor was perfect. The other bug suggestion would be to add a couple slices of French bread or garlic bread to go with. That dish needs some bread!! Gabby, our server, was delightful! We will definitely be back
Wonderful first nite for the restaurant! The staff was very friendly, and the ambiance very cool.
