Hunter Street Tavern
All 4 of us enjoyed our meals and would definitely go back again
They were in the middle of a change over from foodie cuisine to pub food. We had thought we were going for the food and were disappointed. The setting is lovely and service was awesome. It just wasn’t what we were looking for.
Have been a few times and the food is always fantastic. Nice spot in downtown Peterborough. Will be back again for sure!!
Be prepared to wait. A very long time.
When we visited, we were the only people in the restaurant and wondered why. The setting was lovely, menu looked great, and wait staff were exceptional. We couldn’t figure out why the place wasn’t packed. Eventually, over the course of the three hours we were there, more diners arrived, perhaps about 20 or so however the interior of the restaurant was still quite empty. The length speaks for itself; we waited about an hour for our starter, another hour for our main, then another for dessert to arrive. They very kindly comped the dessert for the long wait, but overall the wait seemed beyond acceptable. I was fortunate to have very good company. To their credit, once food arrived it was very, very good. My feedback and suggestion to the owner would be to modify the kitchen process to reduce wait time, or if this is not possible or desired, ensure your customers know, perhaps through marketing, that this is meant to be a leisurely meal and dedicate time to the experience. In our case, we were not aware and despite a two hour planned buffer, missed other plans later that evening with non refundable tickets. We won’t be returning anytime soon.
Loved the corn chowder soup and peachcocktail drinks
I was attracted to Hunter because of the local farm-to-table concept and emphasis on Ontario craft beers. I was pleased to find the unique selection of entrees available. The meal was wonderful and the server was knowledgeable and friendly. It was one of my best dining experiences in recent history.
Wow - what a gem of a restaurant in downtown Peterborough! Some friends recommended we go to this place and we're glad we did. We ordered the game feature, morel mushrooms stuffed with boar chorizo and Tania cheese, and a vegetarian entree, a forest burger made with lentils, barley, mushrooms, and tempeh bacon. Presentation was excellent; food was delicious; service was exemplary.
The restaurant's emphasis on locally sourced produce and an all Ontario beverage offerings (VQA wines and Ontario craft beers) is impressive. In fact, we ordered a wine and a craft beer we had never tried before - both were splendid! We ended our meal with the Poached Pear dessert and The New York 99 specialty coffee made with Wayne Gretzky Red Barrel Whisky. The Pear was light and refreshing, the coffee was smooth and delightfully satisfying.
I can't say enough good things about this place. You know you've been to a fine restaurant when you already start planning your next visit before you even leave...
Booked on OpenTable for a dinner for two and my reservation was accepted.
I showed up on time and was told “we are not on OpenTable, and we are fully booked”.
The Owner was there and he offered no apology or suggestion to help me with a suggested alternative.
Please take this restaurant off your list.
