Il Fornaio - Manhattan Beach
the regional menu was okay - the eggplant /sausgsage app was good, the lamb loin was good, but lamb chops (which they do very well) would have been better. Since this is a regional preparation, can't fault them for that. The dessert was better than I originally thought. The restaurant was not crowded, and the service (as always) was great.
We love this restaurant and celebrated our anniversary there. Enjoyed everything
We took home a dessert, flourless chocolate cake which was delicious. A little skimpy with the whipped cream and berries.

The bartender is very slow he shouldn’t work for a place like that, it’s big Restaurant and need a lit bit faster service

Excellent food and service. We stop for lunch anytime we are in the neighborhood. The pizza is a must have every time we come.
Service was just ok. Food was okay. We enjoyed the pizza and calmari out of all we ordered.
Ambience is nice
This is a hidden gem in Manhattan Beach. Beautiful ambiance! The service was outstanding, food was delicious. Went for my son's 21st birthday. Everyone loved their food and the atmosphere and we had a fantastic time!!! Great place for a date night. We be returning.
Made a reservation and was seated in a nice, quiet spot within a curtained area. Have a lovely ambience for our meal. Service was great and food was top notch as always.
We had not visited this restaurant previously. The restaurant is stylish, the service was wonderful, and the food delicious. We will be back.
The decor of the restaurant was nice and romantic. However, it was very loud and noisy. So much so the we had to talk loud to each other in order to hear one another.

My friend and I had such a great lunch that I came back the next night for Happy Hour and brought my husband. Easy parking, lovely ambience and delicious food. What more can I say?
Service was definitely not the best, server never came back to the table after the food was dropped off, asked two separate people for an item, which they said sure no problem but never came back, by the time we got the item, it was 10 minutes later and the food was cold
Great first experience. Beautiful decor for Valentine's. Only down side, my caprese salad tomatoes weren't that fresh.
Tl:DR: $40 steak was burned, windows seats allow cold air in, was sat about 15min past reservation, was only apologized about the charred steak.
Made a reservation for my Valentine's date for 9:30.
Walked in to be told that why were behind and wouldn't be seated for another 15-20minutes.
That defeats the purpose of a reservation.
We were say down by tall glass doors, looking out to trader Joe's. The lining of the doors, do not seal out the cold. Imagine dining with a cold shoulder and a warm one.
I asked to be moved closer to the fire place, they accommodated me. We still felt cold though so we are with our coats on.
Bread and oil are served once you place the order.
We ordered 2 $40 buo filletos.
The mash potatoes were great, the spinach was delicious.
My meat though, was half charred.
Was told it was just the smokey taste but having an ashy taste in my mouth. That's past the smokey flavor and more like it was left on the wood grill too long.
Disappointing, was given apologies with nothing else. Having ordered the most expensive dish on the menu and a bottle of wine. You would expect a little more understanding.
Not 100% sure if I liked my experience.
Great place, good portions, ok food experience per this visit, and service could have been up a notch.
3/5 stars? Based on what I expected the night to be and the trouble I went to make it great. Might come back for some pasta. Not sure, if I'm willing to take that drive again for a sub par experience.
Last minute reservation for Valentine's day and hadn't eaten here before..but the wife loved it and turned out perfect..like I had it planned out the whole time..
Everything was spot on, tasted great and great service. It hard to go wrong with Il Fotnaio.
We went to one of our local favorites for our Valentine Day Dinner. It was great as always. The restaurant set the tone with lots of balloons and the staff was in a great mood. The food, and ambiance and service was great. We’ll be back, again and again.
The ambiance in this restaurant is so appealing. The decor is beautiful, and there are pleasing settings in all directions. Seating is comfortable, service is friendly and courteous, and the food is delicious. I love to linger over my meal in this attractive and inviting main room, and the side room is lovely as well. This is one of my favorite dining locations. Highly recommended.

Elegant but not in the classical Italian style. Menu choices was more than sufficient and presentation was appealing. The food was very tasty served in an appealing atmosphere.
Il Fornaio has nice atmosphere, noise level is moderate which makes it easy to carry a conversation at the table. Wait staff was average, not up to par with other restaurants in this area and price range for food. Delivery of food was slow, waited an inordinate amount of time for the main course. Food taste and presentation was good, did not provide a wow factor. There are some items on the menu I still want to try, so I will return with the hopes of seeing improvement with staff and timeliness of food delivery.
Il Fornaio is absolutely a wonderful rendezvous place when you are meeting halfway between LA and Orange County. It has never disappointed us in either the food or service! Definitely a 5 star choice!

Service and food were amazing
I need to update my previous review of this restaurant, as this visit was fantastic. Our last visit was terrible including the food, but this time was perfect. Everything was wonderful. Just goes to show that everyone can have a bad night. We have met friends here for dinner for the past 5 years and have always have a great time and the food has always been good, however our previous visit was disappointing and thus I had to give a bad review. BUT this vist was back on par to what we have come to expect from Il Fornaio. Thank you for the wonderful food, exceptional service and a perfect evening.
Food quality underwhelming
We enjoyed the dineLA menu and it was delicious. We were surprised by the the size of the portions. Great value for such a great meal.
Concert got out late but we still were accommodated with smiling face and great food.

we went for the regional menu - the venison was good (although can't really taste "venison"), the salmon was cooked well and the dessert was good too. The appetizer of mushrooms and polenta was quite good, and was enjoyed by all, even the baby.
As always food and service were outstanding. But special kudos to Angelica who served 14 ladies with obvious ease. She was excellent!!!

I have been to Il Fornaio a number of times. Usually the food is dependable, but this time disappointed. I ordered the zuppa di pesce. The seafood was scanty and the broth could have been chicken broth with red food dye. No taste whatsoever. Even the bread to soak up the broth was plain toast - no olive oil or garlic rub. Two of our party ordered items with pasta and in each case the pasta was mushy, not al dente. On the plus side, they have some of the best ceasar salad around. Too bad. I like the atmosphere there and on a pretty slow post-New Year's night, the waitstaff was attentive.
