Intermezzo By Wine Cask
Regular diners and never disappointed!
A wonderful meal al fresco as the
full moon rose over Anacapa Street. Delish burger and the mixed green salad satisfied and then the Creme Brûlée w/Mayer lemon! Oh and Jaffurs Syrah and a Ridge Zin and the fine friendly service from Nuri....All good
We really miss the Wine Cask. Intermezzo is a great reincarnation, using the splendid courtyard to great effect. The drinks are terrific, the pizza is must try, and the service is top notch.
My colleague and I met in the patio courtyard and felt very safe. The waitstaff were courteous, friendly and considerate of safety. Thank you!
We had a wonderful date night and fabulous dinner at Intermezzo by Wine Cask Friday night. Service was attentive, friendly and knowledgeable. Menu was diverse and everything we ordered was delicious Highly recommend the roasted vet salad, pizzas and grilled skirt steak with chimichurri! The atmosphere was quiet but comfortable, spacious and safe!
Service was great and food and drinks were beyond delicious. Looking forward to returning.
The food specials were fantastic!
We loved the subtle decor for Halloween. Really spirited and fun specialty cocktail list.
The Negronis were too good. I had two! Love the setting and so happy they are open again.
Loved every dish we ordered! This place had a whole new vibe and energy. The staff were so nice and most importantly knowledgeable! Menu options were great, wine was divine!
Very quiet birthday dinner dining
Beautiful meal in a lovely setting! I had the chicken—unlike any other. The lemon meringue tart was perfectly tart and sweet. Always great service. A favorite in SB.
Music was way too loud they finally turned it down. Sat outside on a delightful warm evening. Took a long time to get order taken. Food was good but very small portions however dessert was excellent!
We Took advantage of restaurant week to dine at the Wine cask.
The food, service, and ambience were wonderful.
I have been to the Wine cask several times through different ownerships.
I was pleased to find its high standards have been kept with the current ownership.
Food was ok, but overall experience was a bit underwhelming.
Really great restaurant, food and service top notch and beautiful patio (too cold for us to sit out there in feb but got to snap a photo anyway). My favorite item was the scallop crudo.... mind blowing combination of flavors. Our server was absolutely lovely and even offered us a couple tips. I’d return!
This is a return visit and as usual the service is impeccable, the food is delicious from appetizers to desserts and the entire experience is impressive every time as fine dining should be.
The food is not worth its price. The customer service was mediocre at best. I will not return and will not recommend.
The service was very friendly and helpful and the staff was also.
We were a party of 10 for my birthday and had an excited four year old, a one year old
And a special needs child. So we were a noisy group. The four year old was running around the table which fortunately was not close to others, however her dad talked to the staff and customers near us asking if she bothered them. They assured him that she was more entertaining than their conversation. Everyone enjoyed their dinner. I heard rave reviews. I had the scallops which were very nice but I’ve had far better. It was a very successful party relaxed and intimate. I can’t judge vale, I didn’t pay the check. But I heard no complaints and will recommend the Wine Cask.
We love this place, we had our wedding reception here 2 years ago and every time we are in town, we have dinner here! Food is excellent and service even better!
Always a great place for lunch or dinner. Good food and the staff is knowledgeable, helpful and friendly.
Just an outstanding restaurant in all respects.
Jenny and her team were amazing! My husband's birthday dinner was perfect! The food was delicious and beautifully presented.
We celebrated a 65th birthday here over the weekend. First off, the restaurant is absolutely beautiful. Understated elegance in a gorgeous space. It was oddly empty for a Friday night. Prices are definitely on the high side, but we knew that going in.
Our issue was with the service. We asked for a couple modifications on our order (substitute the greens for potatoes), and the waiter said he wasn’t sure they could do that and would have to check with the chef. He never circled back, but apparently the chef was okay with it since I got the potatoes. We ordered a slice of chocolate cake to celebrate the birthday, and were surprised that they charged us for it. Especially since we ordered two bottles of wine plus our 4 entrees. Seemed kind of cheap from an experience standpoint.
For us, this definitely was a “one and done”. The service makes all the difference between a good experience and an outstanding one. Sadly, Wine Cask just didn’t live up to our expectations.
This dinner was a special event with old friends including the former Consul General from Great Britain. We picked the Wine Cask because it has always been one of our favorite places to eat with excellent food, exquisite service and a wonderful ambience. Unfortunately, on this night the food was excellent, but everything else came up short.
I called two weeks before this reservation to see if you had private rooms. I was told that you don't (no problem), but that we would be seated in a quiet corner. Instead, our table for 9 was put in the middle of the dining room. The initial service was terrible. As soon as we were seated, the server told us the specials even before he had taken the drink order. After he took the drink order, he disappeared and never came back. I finally had to get up and ask someone about the drink order which ultimately arrived. However, that particular waiter never came back to our table until it was time to drop off the bill.
It was then an incredibly long time before anyone came back to deliver the drinks and ask about ordering. Later in the evening, the new server spilled some wine on one of our guests and then left, ostensibly to get something to wipe up her chair and the floor. We ended up cleaning up ourselves. You get the idea; the entire evening was like this.
In fairness, the sommelier eventually took over serving the table, did an adequate job and brought us complimentary desert to make up for the wine spillage.
I have checked YES for would I recommend this restaurant to a friend. This is based on my historical experience and not on this past Saturday.
We have dined here several times over the past 20 years when we have found ourselves in Santa Barbara. Over time, there have been changes to the layout, decor and menu. However, the quality of the food and service has certainly not diminished. We noted the indicated 5 and 8 course Chef's Tasting Menus had no description of the courses and asked for an explanation. We were surprised to learn that the chef would create our meal, based on our own likes, dislikes or food allergies. And for a moderate charge, we could have wines paired with each course. We found this to be a perfect idea and went with the 5 courses and matching wines, which was more than enough food for the two of us. I would be unable to do justice to how exquisite each course was prepared and how superbly the selected wines matched. I will simply say that a dining party should agree to let the chef do his magic and also take advantage of the wine pairing option.
The home made pasta was good as was the fish. In fact, over our four day stay in Santa Barbara, it was the best fish we had. Oysters could have been better. Pleasant venue. Service was very good. Very good SB wine selection too.
New Year’s Eve. Everything was fantastic!!
I've eaten at Wine Cask many times before and its always been good. However, they must have a new chef, or someone new that loves sugar. I had New Year's Eve dinner there and was surprised when everything that was ordered by a party of four was sickeningly sweet. The sauce on the gnocchi appetizer was sweet. The sauce under the rib eye steak was sweet. The sauce on the scallops was sweet. Only the mushroom risotto was savory.
Since they loved sweet, we were anxiously awaiting dessert. My chocolate pavê was dry and crumbly. I ate the cherry garnish with whipped cream and left the chocolate. The cheesecake was nothing but a bowl of foam and the creme brulee was tasteless.
All in all, it was a really bad experience for $500. We left hungry because the food was so bad that we left it on our plates to return to the kitchen.
Beautiful room and nice ambiance. Very comfortable. Waiter was eager but a bit clumsy, both in pouring and spilling wine and in interrupting our conversation or being gone (apparently wrestling with a computer within view). Food was good but not particularly creative (steak, steak, chicken and fish -- no lamb, rather pedestrian menu); the best items we tried were the charred broccolini and the summer squashes with pepitas.
Lovely fixed price Xmas menu with many delicious choices. Beautifully decorated for the holidays and attentive service.
Food was very good, although expensive. That said, it was Christmas Day so I was prepared for that. I paid just under $300 for 2 adults and 2 children. This was a 3 course meal for adults, main and desert for kids. We had 3 glasses of wine (between us) in addition to the food.
I found our waiter a little patronising, almost like we weren’t good enough for the restaurant!
The manager Jenny was lovely.
I was surprised that there didn’t seem to be much of a Christmas vibe / atmosphere going on, it felt like a normal day. In the U.K. there would be a much better atmosphere on Christmas Day, but I appreciate that thanksgiving is the main social highlight in the US.
Santa Barbara is a beautiful town. Absolutely stunning.
Christmas Dinner was a true delight! All the servers were happy, friendly and supportive! The food and wine were excellent!
Despite the craziness of the holiday, our waiter added to the evening with his fun personality and attention to detail Very appreciated!
We enjoyed the Wine Cask. The food was excellent. We were there on Christmas Eve and as a result they had prix fixe menu. The lamb rib chops were very well prepared, super tender. My daughter had the duck breast which she reported was perfectly cooked. It is a very large restaurant with a welcoming, rustic feel. We sat near a huge fireplace which felt very cozy on Christmas Eve. Our server was knowledgeable and attentive. We would definitely return.
This could be the most beautiful dining rooms in all of Santa Barbara. I say that because it is not overdone, but the lighting, fireplace and tree is so inviting and calming at the same time. We have dined there many times and never disappointed.
Good place for a quiet lunch on a rainy Saturday. Burger meat was good but buns were dry.
Our family of 4 went here for Thanksgiving Dinner! They served a traditional turkey feast but did have other options if you wanted. Our server was fantastic and the ambiance is delightful. This is not a cheap place for a family of 4, but on this occasion, it was well worth it! My husband and I will definitely come back here on a special date night!
Very friendly staff but we didn’t see much of them. It was not crowded and it really took a long time for drinks to show up. The space is really cool. Sounds like the chef likes trying new and interesting things. We were there on an off night and they were accommodating to our party, which we appreciated. Probably worth giving them another shot sometime.
