Isa has created lovely outdoor dining area. The service was wonderful. We enjoyed all the things we ordered. In addition to preparation, and flavoring, all the dishes were beautiful.
This is a wonderful spot away from the more commetcial, touristy waterfront. It's a well run operation and has interesting wine by glass. Parking is easy.
We had a wonderful meal at Isa. Started with the salt cod fritters, Caesar salad & then Ajillo Shrimp for the entree. The food was incredible & the service was spot on! Great wine list also. We ate in the tented area behind the restaurant & it was a little loud for us. Otherwise a perfect evening!
Consistently delicious, well-prepared food. Terrific service - always friendly and professional, never overbearing. Lovely atmosphere whether seated indoors or outdoors. Eat here!
Great work being done here. Grilled Octopus the best we’ve had in a while. Don’t pass up this gem!
Delicious! We went for our anniversary; great service & fantastic food. We will go again & take family with us.
Our favorite restaurant in Portland. A wonderful combination of good food, well prepared, attentive service, and a neighborhood vibe.
So glad to be back at Isa! Warm welcome from all staff, great wine selection, wonderful food, and we got our favorite seats (at the bar)! All in all a great evening, can't wait to go back. With summer now almost arrived, we will opt for the beautiful outdoor space under the big top next time! Thanks so much for a fun evening, we missed you so much!!
Nice outdoor space
Isa as usual was outstanding. The food was perfection. We dined outside in the tent and it was very pleasant. Service is exceptional.
We dined outdoors and enjoyed our meal. It is still a little weird to be in a temporary place, but ISA is doing a great job with the work arounds for covid protocols. We are long time fans of ISA and would recommend dining here to anyone.
We had a great time at Isa. The food was delicious and our server helped us with all our decisions including matching a great wine with our entrees. The cocktail beforehand was great. We look forward to returning.
My boyfriend and I had dinner at Isa. It was the best dinner I have had in Portland in years, on the same par as Back Bay Grill. The food was simply outstanding! We shared the grilled octopus as an appetizer. Then we shared the green salad with fresh farm picked peas with buttermilk dressing. My boyfriend had the seared halibut and I had the eggplant lasagna which I loved. Dessert was a mascarpone cheesecake. Very interesting farm to table menu changes daily. Next time we will go for the Mexican Monday menu.
Absolutely loved the entire evening food, moderately priced wine and lovely service.
First time. Wonderful experience!! Will definitely be back.
The kitchen is one of Portland's best. The service is VERY slow, due, I suppose, mostly to industry-wide staffing problems caused by Covid-19
Friendly but professional service, terrific food. Pacing of the meal was just right. It’s terrific.
Food excellent, portions a bit small, limited menu, good wine selection.
Super awesome food and service. Wonderful outside seating and staff.
Great food and drinks! I wish everything hadn’t taken so long to be delivered
We LOVE Isa! We have eaten there many times over the past few years, and we have been seated in every location, the side patio, the tent, tables indoors and the bar. Each experience has been wonderful! The menu is creative, the food is delicious, the service is great and much of the food is sourced locally. We ordered takeout from Isa frequently during the pandemic, and now that we feel safe returning to restaurants, it was the first place we chose to dine.
Fennel salad and halibut were mouthwatering. Great service
Outdoor (COVID) dining accommodations were not ideal. We were first seated at a table for two on the edge of the tent across from a rat bait station. We asked and were moved to a better seat. Salads were mediocre. My husband‘s shrimp scampi was OK but definitely just average. My stuffed sole was served in broth and came out lukewarm. It should really be served with crostini or something to dunk in the broth. I asked for bread and was told I would have to order the appetizer focaccia. Because my food was
already room temp I asked how long it would take and the waitperson said two minutes. I waited about eight minutes and it never came so I cancelled the order and finished my cold dinner. I would expect more for a $37 entrée. They did provide us with a complementary dessert which was appreciated and delicious. Too many fabulous restaurants in Portland to return.
Food was great. Small menu but something for all diets and palates. Food and drink not cheap but very good value.
Top notch service, food and atmosphere. Every ISA experience is ⭐️ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ and tha’t why ISA is a favorite for our family celebrations.
Ate outdoors under the tent, vey low noise level which we like. Ordered the mushroom and cheese quesadilla and chips and guacamole which were delicious! Then for entree I had the short rib tacos and my husband (who wanted the rabbit but they were out of it)had the short rib burrito. The portions were just right and food was authentic and really tasty, no sour cream or salsa on the plate which is how it should be!
One of our favorite local places and not mobbed by tourists. Easy to park and generally easy to get a reservation. Small but delicious menu. Good cocktails and wine list. Lovely staff. A hidden treasure for Portland.
Because of Covid precautions, the interior seemed stark, hard and fairly loud. We understand that this is an extraordinary time and that surfaces need to be kept clean.
Our servers were friendly and helpful. The luxury feel of dining out was missing though.
The food was just as expected. Perfectly prepared and presented.
Tables spaced for distancing. Food outstanding, as in the past. Servers attentive. One of our favorite places.
Isa never fails to prepare and present a perfect meal. The service is friendly and efficient. The menu is small, but what is offered is perfect every time and the offerings reflect the changing seasons. They have managed to survive the dining limitations of the Covid pandemic and still offer a safe and pleasant dining experience. The food, decor and ambience is reminiscent of a a great restaurant in the Village (NYC). Absolutely wonderful!
Wonderful food prepared very well with touches of “American bistro flair !” Really good service and attention to the diners... presentation was outstanding. Deep bar and wine list
Food was excellent. Service was great. Will definitely go back.
Isa is one of the best restaurants in the city. Their take-out food during the pandemic has been superb and it is a delight to be able to dine there again. The halibut was perfect. The rabbit, as always, was transcendent and the trout was wondrous. In addition to the joys of the meal, everyone who works at Isa is friendly and competent. Plus, there is parking.
I love everything here. I highly recommend the margaritas and octopus appetizer.
Wonderful cuisine- tasty, creative, well presented and proportioned. Inviting atmosphere, simple and tasteful. Knowledgeable and thoughtful staff. Definitely now on our list of faves!
Remains one of our top favorites: great dishes, attentive service and neighborhood vibe.
Six years since its launch, Isa Bistro remains a leading light in the Portland, Maine, dining scene. Watch for consistently excellent food straddling Italian, Mexican and contemporary American cuisines and supported by smart, attentive service in a timelessly stylish room.
A high quality casual bistro. Food, service and ambience always excellent. Just a very comfortable place to dine.
The food was amazing, and the plate sizes were great (not too much, not to little). The servers were helpful and friendly, and they've gone to great lengths to make the experience safe / socially distant.
Our best meal in Portland after visiting 2 other highly rated restaurants. Isa is truly a craft cooking experience and the details are in the flavor, quality of ingredients and excellent service. A little off the beaten track of the waterfront touristy restaurants, well worth the short drive to visit. One of our group was vegetarian, and they perfectly adjusted some of their menu items to accommodate us. Make this your first place to try if visiting Portland. Nothing else will stand up in quality.
