First time for our group to go to Isa and we had a great time. We went in response to the SF Dining Week. Five courses with lots of choices and shared dishes. Plenty of food and each offering was delicious.
We will be back!
Always love the service and food! Just our luck with a drunk group next to us, but I understand haha
We enjoyed the SF Restaurant Week 5-course dinner.
All of the courses were delicious. The wines were great,
and the service was wonderful.
We love this place. We chose to return to dine here after being here a few months ago (we have family in the area). It was amazing. The yellowtail appetizer was amazing as was everything else we ordered. Will will return again when we back in town.
Isa was incredible. We went for restaurant week and did the $65 fixed 5-course menu. Everything we tried was great and they have an awesome wine list. Service was terrific. Highly recommend - we will definitely be back.
All the dishes were really tasty. I really enjoyed the shrimp app and the tuna tartar. The dishes are made for sharing, and smaller bites.
A caveat about this review: We went for SF Restaurant Week and there had been a power outage that lasted until just before our reservation. The combo might have affected the service. Based on pervious reviews, maybe not.
:: The Good ::
The value for SFRW was outstanding, especially with both the amount and quality of the food. Out of all consumed, our only complaint was the Lobster broth, which tasted as if sugar had been added. Everything else was quite good, with the duck and scallops highlights.
:: The Bad::
During these Covid times, tables are supposed to be limited to parties of 6. During our meal, a birthday party of 9 were seated next to us at a single table. This group made us further uncomfortable by not following protocols like asking other tables to take photos of them and walking around unmasked. Our response was to settle up quickly after finishing dessert as the enjoyable space had taken a turn.
:: The Ugly ::
Imagine 1.5 hours between your 2nd and 3rd (out of 5) courses. That's what we experienced while others, who were seated after us, were served. After approx. an hour we asked our waiter the status of the food when he came around with dessert(!) dishes; he said it was on its way (it wasn't). 15 minutes later we asked the manager about it (he also said it was on its way... you know what comes next). Finally we hit up an assistant waiter/bus boy who then got it out to us in minutes. Said and done, 3 hours total for a meal that should have been half as long with no apologies or acknowledgement of the issue by Isa's.
:: Final Thought ::
If you have hours to spare and aren't hungry when you get there, go to this restaurant.
Always amazing food and very pleasant service from start to finish. Perfect place for a date night or with the ones you love. Prepare to share! Plates come out in random order depending on what is being prepped in the kitchen. Love the back patio.
Amazing menu, food was great and service was outstanding. Had a great time on Wednesday night out in SF with drinks next door afterwards. Highly recommend for quality dishes.
We enjoyed the food for sure but the service was very slow. It took an hour to bring our food, drink service was slow, and we waited for 15 min to get our check picked up. It was cold on the patio but very nice ambiance. It was on the pricier side for tapas yet good quality.
We were seated in the back Garden which was protected from the wind. We ordered all of our food at once as instructed and enjoyed the variety , presentation and flavors of each dish .
It is small plates and designed to be shared and I would recommend 2 dishes per person.
We loved the hamachi crudo , foie grad and risotto. The chicken was nice comfort food and the calamari tasty . The flourless chocolate cake and creme brulee -both were delicious .
We will certainly return .
Outstanding food. Calamari with white beans and the truffle mushroom risotto were amazing. There’s a reason it’s been around for so long. We ate outside in parklet, which was a bit noisy but also beautiful, warm evening when a lot of people out and about. Will be back again for sure.
Great streetwise patio and great server!
Crab salad, duck breast!
Favorite SF place and neighborhood. Food fantastic
Great food. Beautiful presentation. Variety of choices made dining fun and adventuresome. Quality and freshness was a big plus!
Intimate setting, good food, staff are friendly
Isa is perhaps our favorite restaurant in the Marina District. The food and service are both outstanding. The outdoor dining is nicely arranged and comfortable.
I love the food here and the staff are always so welcoming. Will be back for sure.
Service was great and food was delicious. Very glad we made reservations so we could be seated in the warmer back patio dining area, because it seemed pretty cold in the front dining section.
Awesome place the food was great and so was the service
Now we know!!
Decent, tasty food with slightly inattentive service, at SF prices
The food here is outstanding! We tried the lamb (most amazing thing I’ve had in awhile), calamari, crab salad (lots of fresh crab, they don’t skimp), duck, goat cheese and butter lettuce salad. Everything tasted so fresh and perfectly seasoned. The host was really helpful and held a table for some unexpected friends that wanted to join us. At the end of the night, we met the owner who told us the chef has been there 20 years. So happy to have discovered this spot.
Attentive staff, heavenly food, great outdoor/patio dining pre-, during and I’m pretty sure post covid as well.
Always a pleasure!
Excellent experience. Food was incredible.
Great food, kind and helpful service. Very reasonable portions and price!
Been to ISA twice during pandemic and both times are among our best outings all year long. thank you Isa !
Restaurant has been a mainstay for years.(?18-20?) Over time food declined BUT now truly back in the groove. Great options, great tastes and fair pricing. Good wine. So thankful that there are restaurants that survive for our return to normalcy! thankful
Truly outstanding cuisine on vibrant Steiner Street. The sea bass baked in a potato skin with capers and spices was so delicate, so moist, so flavorful. Surround that with sautéed mussels, hangar steak a la Francaise, and roasted Brussels sprouts, and it was for us a date to remember.
Very accommodating to late arrival; thank you very much
terrible service. slow. left early
We were pretty disappointed. No one greeted us at the door, upon sitting down we waited for 30 minutes for service. The team was completely understaffed and did state they were overwhelmed. Having said that the food was also a massive letdown. We were thoroughly shocked by the poor experience. All in all we wouldn’t recommend it to others although it did come highly recommended to us. Unsure exactly what was going on, and if this was covid related or the restaurant has simply just taken a turn downwards. Not what we expect when paying $275.00 for our anniversary dinner.
Food was absolutely incredible! Every bite was better than the last. Such a cute atmosphere and amazing service.
Great food. Great ambiance. Server was horrible. Never came to our table to check us. Had to hunt him down three times. Otherwise, I highly recommend
Had a Valentine's Day Reservation which told me a prix fix meal price online and was almost double what was stated. Was after a romantic dinner though so obviously not going to barter the price in front of my SO. Was truly a great experience up to that point.
I am glad you enjoyed the 5 courses special menu with a complimentary drink on Valentine's day. Sorry, I had only one price for all of my guests on Valentine's Day. Not even a single guest complained about the price. The value was over $110. I & my staff work very hard and risk our lives to serve our guests, & getting 2 stars from someone looking for a bargain really hurts in these pandemic times. The price was clearly stated on the menu which was provided to you & your partner.
One of my favorite SF dining experiences!
The tuna appetizer and seabass was delicious. Also, the heated area and service was amazing! I highly recommend this place.
