Islesford Dock Restaurant
Well worth the trip however you get there - glad we took the chance!
Just walking the island worked up an appetite. The food did not disappoint.
While I know it was the second to last night of the season and we were not locals but when someone makes a reservation and says it is a birthday celebration you would think a dessert would have a candle, at least one!
We asked to be seated earlier and were denied as the good tables were reserved for locals - four tables sat empty for an hour while we had to wait outside.
The food saved the evening as well as the boat ride back.
The service was quick and plates stacked up quickly but weren't cleared as fast so my shrimp shells were still on a plate as I ate dessert.
I suspected being the last weekend of service there would be a glitch or two - they were out of several things at 6:00 on a Saturday. Everything was rushed and dotting on the locals was the preferred MOO.
Excellent, as always! We look forward to returning next season.
What a great experience. The setting was surreal, and the food was outstanding. Don't miss coming here by boat at sunset. One of the best meals we had on our trip to Maine. Thank you!
Food was very good as usual, fish of the day a bit dry for two of the party. Four other visits this year were perfect. We are blessed to have this wonderful restaurant thrive and survive.
This is the place to come to eat lobster, drink a great cocktail and see the sea.
It was quiet when we were there, end of the season has started.
Worth the boat ride, even in the fog! The server I had (can’t remember her name but she had long blonde hair) was wonderful! The cocktails were really tasty and the lobster pot pie was good on a cooler fall day. I saw outside and had a nice view of the harbor. Just wish I had better weather!
Always a treat to be at Isleford Dock--an extraordinary experience.
Lovely meal to celebrate our last day in the area - Amazing scallops, perfect shrimp, incredible view. Will absolutely be back!
This is our favorite restaurant in Maine. The food is exceptional - truly - and the setting so relaxed and beautiful. We had the spicy tuna salad, tuna tacos, fish and chips and the chowder. Every single thing was delicious. The cobbler and ginger bread for desert were both spectacular. As a reference- we eat well - and very rarely give this strong a review. The islesford dock is magnificent and stands out for its exemplary food, service and setting.
Gorgeous late lunch in a stunning setting - with divine food to match.
Fantastic food and location! I recommend the oysters, fish tacos, crab cakes and lobster pot pie. Absolutely the best meal we had during our time in the Bar Harbor area.
Have been dining there for years and we always enjoy it!
Amazing adventure for dinner! The ferry and then dinner was a great activity for us and our 4 kids!
Considering the state of the world and what restaurants are currently going through, we can't say enough about how great our experience was at Islesford Dock. The food was perfect, timely and served by a fantastic group of energetic and fun people. We can't wait to return!
Even though the menu never changes and there are very few items that one can honestly enjoy eating, we love the place. Staff is outstanding as is the location....
We charter a boat or take the ferry to this island restaurant every year, usually multiple times. During Covid-19 we were hesitant, but glad we went. We chartered a boat for just our family/friends, the restaurant added tables outside and barrier dividers and spacing inside. Virus rate is low in Maine but we are still cautious. Staff all wore masks and wore them properly. The food is always very good -- not haute cuisine but a step up from most Maine tourist locations. It isn't inexpensive, but very good. The lobster, of course, is the best -- really fresh -- but try the Asian ribs (a house specialty) and the strawberry salad. Nothing anyone in my party ordered was less than very good. We'll be back more often next summer.
Gorgeous setting, delicious food and kind staff. The ferry ride over is incredible.
Great place, great scenery, great food, and the journey is worth the destination! Took a 60 mile round trip boat ride from Ellsworth to visit and it was worth it.
The food was absolutely outstanding, as was the service and ambience eating outside on the dock. Great drinks too!
Absolutely incredibly restaurant, completely worth the beautiful commute! Our server was so nice and helpful, only topped by the food itself.
If there were one critique, it would be that there could have been more lobster in the pot pie, other than that it was a perfect experience. Thanks!
The food was exquisitely good! The clam chowder the best we’ve had. Oysters so fresh and delicious. And the service was great too: friendly, timed perfectly. Loved perusing the paintings in the gallery too. What a special experience!
Great dinner, view and service. Perfect.
A fun and informative ferry ride..love the crew..mailboat and passenger ferry❤️...dropped off next to the restaurant ...great views...like walking into a quiet dream...nice table with a view..great service and yummy food..try the lobster pot pie or lobster fried rice!! Loved this place❤️❤️❤️
Margaret was awesome as our server. The food was very good. It was a very nice evening.
This restaurant definitely did not live up to its reputation. It was probably one of the worst dining experience we have had. I understand that It was it first day to pen due to the Covid-19 pandemic but there is no excuse for not being ready on your opening day. How can you not have the beer tap or white wine available. Is mint that difficult to obtain these days. How could there be no mint available for your drinks. When you advertise Stewards Birch Beer on the menu you should be able to offer it and not tell the customer we do not carry that brand. Also adding 4 cherries to a Bourbon Manhattan does help to fill the glass. Your drinks were short on both pours. FYI, you also need to clean out the soda lines They were flat and god only know if they are filled with bacteria.
However those were minor issue the major issue is your service staff. Have they not been taught proper etiquette on how to serve your customers? The bus boy out shined your wait staff immensely. He knew and understood how customers are to be served. I also do not understand why the waitress offer the check at the same time dessert was being served. It wasn't like there was a wait and you needed to turn over the tables quickly. We actually would have liked to order an after dinner cocktail but felt the rush for us to leave.
So to sum it up, It was a horrible experience for us. I think the wait staff at the Salty Dog were better trained.
Love this restaurant! A favorite
Birthday dinner for my wife at the Dock. Great cocktails, wine and food. Service from Ryan was outstanding. The setting is magical ... scenic rustic island off the coast of Maine.
Fantastic!! Staff, food, views!! So grateful to have Islesford Dock in our world!
Great restaurant, great food, and totally amazing location. Nothing better than eating while looking out over the ocean! My family and I have been coming here for 6 years and it NEVER gets old. If you’re in the area you have to try out this place
Great evening with friends. Delicious cocktails and fresh oysters!
The Islesford Dock Restaurant provides a delicious and memorable experience. The service is impeccable, and the food is first-rate! All while seated in comfortable surroundings looking out at water, boats, and sky. Perfection!
Stellar experience, freshest seafood and superb wines
Always a winner. The best clam chowder in the world.
Waiter brought our appetizer and five minutes later brought our entree. No time to enjoy the appetizer and dinner was over in 30-40 minutes total leaving us with nothing to do but sit and wait for the ferry that would arrive an hour and fifteen minutes later.
This restaurant is just a bit off the beaten trail. Have to take a boat to get here which was the best part of our experience
The night we dined there the restaurant was pretty crowded The noise level is off the chart as the sound resonates off everything. It is so bad that you have a hard time hearing people at your table
Our waitress seemed like she had to cover too many tables as she did not respond to a few of our requests
Food was good. Not great. I had the lobster fried rice which was way too salty
Good size food portions. Reasonable pricing
Could have been a much better experience. A bit disappointing
As a plus the sunset was terrific but the mosquitos are horrible
They were all very accommodating and made our special night perfect! After arriving very early they were able to place us at the table I had requested an hour early and the lobster and service was all great!
Amazing atmosphere love this place.
I've been coming here since 2004. It used to be my favorite restaurant in the Mount Desert Island area. Not any more. The Asian ribs and mole tacos were way too salty. The Gulf of Maine halibut was transformed from a magnificent signature dish to blah. My mojito was basically a rum and tonic with a sprig of mint. They forgot to muddle the mint. The only good thing we had was the "Margorita". I hope they fix the cooking. The ambience is still as authentic and unique.
