Jasper Murdock's Alehouse
Heirloom Tomatoes, Maplebrook Farm Mozzarella, Basil, Arugula, Balsamic Glaze
Delicious food, great service.
Everything is great! Love the wings and the fish and chips.
Excellent beer! Great food! Relaxing atmsphere. Very welcoming and nice staff.
Food, service, ambiance excellent, limited menu due to Covid prevailing conditions, but food was great.
Great service, food was awesome!
My husband had the salmon which was great. I had the cheddar burger which had no taste whatsoever. The drinks were strong so that was good. Dessert delicious.
Really great help.
I've had dozens of meals here but nothing like last night's. I ordered cavatappi with marinara sauce for the first time. I adore Italian food, but mostly the way it's served in Italy, huge flavor, small portions. This was the best I've had anywhere. I asked for a small side salad of lettuce and cucumber, green to contrast with the tomato sauce, and will order this pairing again and again. My companion loved her Caesar salad with chicken. The bar serves a great martini, and there are a fair number of good wines, and the outdoor patio with its new canopy is welcoming.
Excellent food and salad dressing was outstanding.
They are short staffed and have a limited menu which is fine but fo the few things well.. last night the burger was tasteless, bun was not toasted served good n a basket which is awkward to cut or dress your burger.. night before arugula salad was ok but pizza just fair.. the staff work hard and should be commended.. shout out to Brittany!
Don’t order the pasta!
This is one of our go to places when we decide late to go out for dinner. The service is always good and the food has always been very good. However, our experience yesterday was not very good. The service was very good as always, but the food was not good at all. I had the pasta with some chicken, the pasta was ok, it seemed dry, not enough marinara sauce and the chicken breast was almost inedible it was so dry.
My wife had a salad, which she described as having very little or possibly no dressing and had to ask for more.
As I said this has not been our usual experience at the Norwich Inn, but we were disappointed with the food we had there last evening. Maybe an off night?
I hope this is not a new normal.
Norwich Inn is very pretty. I made a reservation for 6:45 for outdoor seating. We went to the maitre'd at about 6:15 to ask about earlier seating and he said our table wasn't ready yet. There were larger tables available, but ok fair enough. He said we could go into the bar and order a drink, and he would call us when our table was ready. I felt the bartender was curt to my daughter when she asked if she could make her an Aperol Spritz (No...was all she said). We got our drinks and sat down in a section near the brewery. There was a large trash can there with flies-we moved to get away from it. At 6:45, we went back to a largely empty patio and a table for us.
To be fair, the food was decent and the server efficient.
We really appreciated the lack of crowded dining tables. We felt safe and therefore able to relax and enjoy a great meal.
Good choice if you are looking for small, and cozy New England pub. Great seating options. A+ burgers and brew.
The food was a bit pricey, but definitely delicious.
Very enjoyable dinner in an historic setting with very friendly service.
The food and service were great! The crab cakes were amazing and Gluten Free options were available for bread .The margarita and beer were strong and flavorful. All around pleasant experience.
Beautiful evening on the patio with great neighborly service.
Without being requested, Jaspers provided our group a private room with great service! The food was wonderful and a good time was had by all!
A bit pricey but really good. Service excellent.. Very attentive.
Walked up to the outside seating area just a few minutes ahead of our reservation. Was greeted and seated quickly. There were a few people seated around us which added to a nice atmosphere, not crowded at all. Service was friendly and attentive. The food was pretty good, as were the drinks.
The only nitpick was the payment system was slow, once it loaded it went smoothly, just a bit slow. Overall a good experience and I’ll go back.
The food was a bit overpriced for the quality but the atmosphere and service was decent. Wings were excellent tho
We visit this area for vacation or business about twice a year on average. Norwich Inn has always been on our list. But no longer. Our food this time was mediocre. Several of us ordered dishes built around grilled salmon. The salmon was about Applebee’s grade. Our server was very good, but nobody else payed any attention to us.
The most egregious defect came when they brought our entrees and could not tell us with any confidence which plate was the beef burger and which was the Impossible Burger. Apparently the kitchen had not realized this is important and that it’s very easy to identify the Impossible Burger (e.g., two toothpicks in the bun). Totally inept. Our server knocked the meal off the bill, but really they should have redone the orders. We will not ever be returning to Norwich Inn with so many other great options in the area.
Great service, nice ambience and wonderful food. Craft beers and the best fish and chips. Also enjoyed the crab cakes.
We returned to the Alehouse after a very positive experience 2 years ago and were disappointed with this visit. We were seated indoors with uncomfortably cold air conditioning and found a seriously reduced menu available - we had hoped for a tasty, nutritious meal, consistent with our experience in 2019, but instead found pricey, standard pub food. It was fine but not anything unusual or special. Disappointing.
Everything is great except they have lost their chef due to COVID and with it fine dining. Now they seem to have a griddle and a frier. Until COVID-19 they had made great strides improving their menu and it’s quality. It seems that has been abandoned. Full breakfast also was served on weekends to the joy of Inn customers. No longer! Too bad for the Inn and the community!
Hi Dan, We appreciate your feedback and your returning to the Inn so frequently. We did feel we had made great strides pre-pandemic and were moving in a great direction. Unfortunately, the last 15 months has caused us to reevaluate our business model and the direction we go in moving forward. For many reasons, more casual dining just makes sense for us right now. We appreciate your continued support and the 4 star rating! We hope we can continue to be enjoyed by the community in other ways!
Lovely ambiance in the dining room. Our server was very attentive and we received our meals quickly.
Our server was very slow. Initial greeting was good, it took a very long time for our 1st beer to arrive. We ordered the Crispy Wings, they were not at all crispy. I ordered the Murdock Pizza, it was out, so I ordered the classic pizza and I was told the only modification I could have was pepperoni. The crust was nice, but the toppings of sauce, mozzarella and Parmesan were not exciting. My partner had the burger which was excellent. They did make the fries crispy on that plate. The expanded patio is very nice, although we couldn’t get our table to not wobble.
Server took a ver long time to get us drinks, and then was surly when we ordered a second round. Do nor order the pizza, which was bland and tasteless. Other food (burger, fish&chips) was good, but pricey.
Hi Brian, We are very sorry you had such a poor experience. It is our goal to ensure each guest enjoys their time at the Inn and it's obvious we fell short on this occasion. COVID has caused many transitions for us and in the past 2 weeks our daily covers has increased rapidly. We have team members back who have been laid off for 14 months and are learning a whole new form of service as well as a new P.O.S. system. We apologize that we could not meet our normal standards on this occasion.
A wonderful restaurant and pub! Classic New England, elegant, clean and friendly. A wonderful staff make you feel right at home. Sit on the front porch in rocking chairs to enjoy a drink.
A welcoming and attractive country inn dining room with an appealing but not large menu (salads, potstickers, burgers, grilled shrimp and chicken) and to die for desserts. Excellent cocktails.
Salmon nicely glazed; perfectly grilled
Had a magnificent stay at the Norwich Inn, including both dinner and the room were lovely.
Seated by a waitress, who was questioned about us having a reservation by another staff member , loud and in front of everyone, trying to call her out on something because we weren’t at the table the second party thought we should be.
We had been seated for ten to fifteen minutes at that point
we already had drinks
It was Prime Rib night when we went. It's not my favorite but I put in the preorder for both of us the week before. It was some of the best prime rib I ever had. The asparagus was done perfectly and baked potato with sour cream and bacon bits delicious. Since it's covid, they are only using a few tables so it was very quiet. I was disappointed the fire wasn't on, but all in all, a lovely experience.
We very much appreciate that you are staying open for (safe) in-person dining, The staff are wonderful, the food is wonderful, and it almost feels normal eating out except, of course, for the lack of many other diners!
Thank you!! We really appreciate you taking the time to post this. We are so happy you were able to enjoy our establishment. We are so thankful for your support during this difficult time. -Dave Burtonbush Innkeeper
