Javier's - La Jolla
We made a reservation for 7 and when we arrived right on time, it was only 5 of us, the table was ready and they didn't want to sit us. We told them we were going to consume and the 2 missing persons where already on their way .. Their explanation was they didn't want to "waste" 2 sits on a large table if those 2 people wouldn't show up. Even though the table was there empty.
We asked to talk to the manager and he said the same thing "it is our policy to not waste sits of larger tables" . We were there, standing for 30 min until the last 2 persons arrive. We didn't consume anything, they never offered us to sit on the bar or anything and we weren't happy.. so they lost 30 min of drinks and appetizers and ensured we would never come back, but they didn't waste 2 sits on us. I wonder if the real owner of the restaurants thinks that is a good business decision . Service on the table was always rushed like the wanted to make sure we would get up so they could have one more group for the night.
We celebrated my daughters 30th at Javiers. It is the most beautiful restaurant in San Diego. Great job
Excellent and speedy service. Music was really too loud to talk comfortably - at night club level. Turn the music down, please.
We had a great table with a nice fire pit nearby. Food and service were excellent. Margaritas are a little pricey but tasted great. Fun place to have a meal! I highly recommend Javier’s.
Reanna has been my server the past few visits and the service has been outstanding!! Great food and fun ambiance. Highly recommend!
My dads birthday went great!
The restaurant is beautiful. The food was average considering the price I expected to be wowed. The service was also rather slow and unenthusiastic.
Javier's met and perhaps even exceeded our expectations when we dined there for first time with two other couples--close friends. All six of us were very pleased with the drinks and food. The food is exceptional. We enjoyed the colorful and lively ambience but found the sound level quite annoying. It is a bit pricey but given the quality of food and beverages still a very good value. All of us shall return, I am sure, and will definitely recommend Javier's to others.
Atmosphere is good. The setup are great. But the hype about this place is overboard. Meaning if you are here you to have good quality food, you will not be satisfied. If you are here to show up and pretend you are all this and that, you have come the right place.
If you are here to find sugar daddy, you are at the right place. If you are looking for woman that wants sugar daddy, you have also came to the right place.
Good luck and let me know what you think.
came with my girlfriends and 3 month old baby. this place is definitely not kid friendly- even for a baby who slept the whole time. kinda felt like i got treated like a second class citizen. super cool ambiance and the drinks were delicious, but the food was wildly overpriced and just ok.
Food is overpriced, noisy, service was great, would not recommend unless you're into all of the above.
Todo bien, excelente ambiente, tal vez ruido en exceso, pero la comida es buena y el servicio también
This is a great place for a special occasion or for entertaining clients.
Amazing food with great ambiance. Speedy. But in my opinion, worth it. Glad I went. Will go again.
Love the food and atmosphere but our server was determined to rush us out of our table, even though there were plenty available. That was annoying.
Good food, but pricey for what it is. Cool vibe, but SO LOUD. Hard place to have a conversation in. Suggest avoiding tables along the “cave walls”, the acoustics are terrible. Service was good, but nothing special. It’s a big place. Everyone in our party liked the quality of the food.
Really good food and a beautiful dining room. The bar and drinks were also great
Waiter forgot about us.
Fantastic food and service!
I've been to both Javier's many times and this time it just wasn't up to par. Came with my friend and our teenage boys. The server made a couple faces when we ordered, like we didn't spend enough. The jalapeno margarita tasted off and wasn't spicy, I sent back and received another one that tasted exactly the same. I didn't drink it, he still left it on my bill and I just paid it. The salsa wasn't spicy like it normally is and the appetizer and entree were ok. The kids enjoyed it but I know it was not a quality meal. For a couple hundred dollars for lunch I expect better service and good. We ordered our meal when the appetizer came out and it took almost 40 minutes to receive or food.
Went in at about 8:30pm for dinner, music was overly loud Mumble rap and techno. Food was as expected from Javier's, but our server was completely absent. We've been to other Javiers, and overall this location was not in touch with the atmosphere.
Dinner with our daughter at Javier’s is very consistently good as always.
We weren't seated for an hour AFTER our reservation time. Were ignored in bar patio. Menu prices are sky high for this kind of food, which would be tolerable if wait times and service were on point. PLEASE turn down the music; we had to shout across the table to be heard and we were only a party of four.
We love going to Javier's. Such a fun night. Great for all ages. Excellent service and exceptional quality. It is loud so grandparents had trouble hearing. Love the open atmosphere.
You feel like you're transported to a vacation spot coming here! Service, food and drinks are amazing. It is pricey.
My husband and I had a dinner reservation to celebrate his birthday (noted with the reservation) - - we arrived about 10 mins early but were never given an option for a table choice and instead were escorted to a small table (situated uncomfortably near another table/couple) in the bar/patio area. I had previously been to Javier’s and was seated in the indoor dining section, which had much better ambiance. Loud music played throughout our dinner, amplified by the fact that we were seated directly near a speaker. The service was slow and left a lot to be desired (e.g., our server explicitly asked me whether I wanted salt on my margarita, to which I replied “yes” - several minutes later, the same server brought me a margarita with no salt, which required me to flag him down, send the drink back and wait for a replacement). I also had to request a napkin, as there wasn’t one with my place setting. Independently not tremendous issues, but when coupled with the slow service, subpar ambiance where we were seated and price point for appetizers, entrees (which hardly fit on our small table) and multiple rounds of drinks, I simply can’t recommend this establishment. There are many nearby options with comparable menu options with far superior service.
Great service by your staff. The food was excellent The Stella was cold and Margarita was picante ! It was the jalapeño .
The food and service were excellent! Loved the atmosphere as well.
I wouldn't describe the music as 'energetic', more like TOO LOUD. At about 8:30pm the music gets turned up to a disturbing noise level and the goes from upbeat latin to hip hop and rap-ish. Very annoying for business meeting or intimate dinner. If the restaurant was a club with that type of atmosphere, that would be understanding - but you are offering fine dining. The two just don't mix.
Beautiful interior, great food and service. Saw several dishes I want to go back to try. The Javier’s margarita was smooth and understated. Will definitely be back!
Javier's does not disappoint! Excellent food and ambiance, plus great margaritas too!!
Great service, great food, great overall experience
Awesome food and atmosphere.
It is a fun place to go to. Really enjoyed the atmosphere and ambiance. Good food and good service.
Great food, amazing atmosphere- I would differently come back here. Oh the margaritas where delicious too! Perfect for date night or a night out with the girls.
Javier's in Newport Beach is one of my favorite restaurants, so when I found out a new location was opening closer to home in La Jolla, I had to check it out. I made reservations on Open Table for a table for 2 for 6:30 pm on a Saturday night. When we arrived, we were told there will be a wait (so much for having a reservation). We sat in the waiting area and ordered drinks. Right after ordering drinks the seating attendant came over and told us our table was ready. We informed her that we just ordered drinks and she said we will have to close out our tab first before we are seated. This didn't make sense. We received our drinks, closed out the tab and we were seated. The ambiance is beautiful. I love the decor. If you have been to the Newport Beach location it's pretty much the same look and feel. The food was excellent and the wait staff prompt and attentive never allowing our glass to go empty. My only issue was how loud the music was. My guest and I found ourselves yelling at each other to talk over the music. Since this location is a lot smaller than the Newport Beach location, loud music can become quite bothersome after some time. Looking forward to giving it another try.
Food and cocktails are always phenomenal! We were running about 15 minutes behind and our reservation was moved easily without any hassle. Cocktail waitress and hostesses were super nice. Our waiter was not very friendly and rushed us to order within 3-5 minutes of us sitting down. I understand how it goes when you want to turn tables but giving us a few minutes to review the menu would have been nice. Overall the food was great and we love coming here all the time!
Javier's is the best Mexican food that I've ever experienced. I only wish we had one where I live in the south. Best cocktails and flavorful food. The open air ambiance and décor was amazing. Highly recommend
I would recommend for happy hour but it's very expensive for lunch/dinner. The food was good but very pricey. I ordered a Diet Coke and it came with a glass of ice and an 8 oz. bottle -- no refills and I'm sure it was $4. We went for a work lunch and the decor was great, noise level a little loud, but looks like a fun place. Service was good. Nothing to complain about except the price and no refills for soda. Chips and salsa were fantastic.
