I was in Tokyo for business and absolutely had to get a dinner in at Kaikaya. Having eaten there for the first time a few months ago, it's now become a must and I look forward to my next trip to Tokyo so I can, once again, indulge in their tuna and Cherry blossom ice cresm!
I️ highly recommend Kaikaya to anyone and everyone! They were extremely accommodating even after we missed a train and then were a little late. Once we got there they made us feel welcomed. This was the best service we’ve ever received anywhere, I️ would come back to Japan just to visit Kaikaya. Take recommendations from staff, they know what they are doing and won’t steer you wrong! This meal was unforgettable and absolutely a highlight of our trip. I’ll never forget Kaikaya!
Great, creative fish dishes (also a good salad with chicken) as always. Very informal, a bit noisy. Unusual comination of Japanese/Western food, emphasizing fish. Been coming here for several years when in Tokyo. Quite popular with foreigners and Japanese so reservations essential.
Kaikaya never disappoints. I have been there a few times to entertain friends and bosses and they are amazing. Food is great and service friendly.
The ambiance is also special. It’s hard to get the casual and friendly kind of ambiance in Tokyo. Most restaurants turns out to be boring and cold but not Kaikaya. It’s fun and it’s relaxing and good for casual night out with friends.
A must try in Tokyo!
I took my brother here during his visit to Tokyo and we had the best time! The seafood is so fresh, and the set menu made it easy to order. The portions were great and easy to share. They were serving sakura ice cream when we went and I still think about it to this day. Also the location is great to walk around in afterwards. There are so many good restaurants in Tokyo but few that have great food, great service, and a vining atmosphere. 10/10 will go back!
I was here 8 years ago and it left such a great impression that 8 years later I had to come back. KAIKAYA has grown in size and for good reason! It now has two stores side by side and even on a Thursday it was packed and prebooking the day before only had a 9pm slot.
The atmosphere is still as vibrant and chill as before. Lots of action in the kitchen (new branch not as open concept for customers to interact with kitchen though) and prices are very fair and affordable. Food was just as good and being a fish restaurant, the fish dishes were excellent but even the Kobe beef sushi was great.
Only thing is it's so busy that food can take a while to be served (ultimately led us to cancel the steak, but we were stuffed anyways). Drink menu was great and also reasonably priced.
Will be back for sure and this time hopefully sooner than 8 years!!
When was born, I had a severe allergy of seafood. That allergy subsided when I reached 11-12 years old. So I've always had this "discomfort" of eating seafood, it has never been a first choice for me.
However, I tried this place under the recommendation of a friend. And he was right, the food was prepared so well that I actually enjoyed seafood for the first time in my life.
The menu is creative yet basic. The ingredients used are of high quality, combined with the experienced, precise cooking process, the food comes out in a marvelous taste. I never thought seafood can taste this good.
If you like seafood or wish for a gourmet dining experience in Tokyo, you have to try this place out.
The food was fantastic! My boyfriend and I went for our anniversary. The exterior and fit out weren't as fancy as we were expecting but the dishes were amazing!! Would definitely return. Lovely staff. Definitely try the 8 or 10 course tasting menu. Book in advance as they were turning customers away.
Such a great experience. The staff spoke enough English to make sure we made great food choices and the atmosphere was fab with lots of locals enjoying a good time. The food was amazing, so fresh (bought at the market that morning by the chef himself), and reasonably priced.
I reserved this place for our anniversary dinner date with my wife. The staff engaged customers frequently and were very friendly and energetic. But most of all, my wife had the best succulent meal ever. We had the 8 course meal and every dish was uniquely delightful. Wish they had something extra though for our special day. But my happy wife is all that matters.
Everything about Kaikaya By the Sea is amazing! The casual atmosphere, the friendly staff, the interesting decor, and of course, the delicious and creative cuisine. The food is made with love. I came here for my birthday, having read about it back home in Sydney (Australia), and it was just perfect! We had the banquet; the dishes were varied, generous and the seafood was very fresh. I drank beer but the wine list looked great too. The value for money is incredible. To top things off, the staff surprised me with a gorgeous birthday dessert box with mouthwatering matcha cheesecake and treats. This truly has become one of my favourite restaurants in the world!!
Well, Good Environment and Tempura taste good.
Most of the customers are from overseas and the staffs are talkative.
HOWEVER, LONG HOURS WAITING for the FOOD.
(Salad + Corn & Shrimp Tempura + Mini Sashimi Set)
I have arrived at 9pm and leave arround 11pm with just 3 dishes serving. (40mins waiting for a normal size chicken salad, another 45mins for Corn&Shrimp Tempura and more than 45 mins for the Mini Sashimi Set) i can't believed that mini sashimi dish takes up to 1.5hrs to prepare. People surrounded by who come in late, has ordered 8 dishes set menu with quick serving / table next to us has ordered 5 dishes from menu and with quick serving too.
Very Disappointed experience, can give it a try if you are not hungry and able to take long waiting.
It was great to experience an authentic 10-course Japanese meal. The barley tea and Sakura ice cream were highlights. Loved the sashimi and the well soaked fish in meso soup. Garlic fish was nice too. Waiters had the right attitude. Our group of 4 had a great dining experience.
One of the best dinners we had in Tokyo. Service was excellent. The food presentation was very creative and looked as good as it tasted. The waiter was very flexible in letting us order the tasting menu for three of us when we had five people. It took awhile to find it off the beaten path in Shibuya but it was worth it.
