Kairoa Brewing Company
The food was bland despite the great presentation. The ambiance is amazing. They have a great rooftop with open-air seating and very modern decor. It is probably a great place to grab a beer and hang out, but not recommended as a foodie dinner spot.
got a rooftop seat with awesome views. I was happy to see folks there with well behaved dogs. Great appys and dinner. Not so great for desert
Great spot. Love the rooftop. So nice on a warm evening to sit outside and have tasty food and brew.
The food and service was great- my friends and I had a great time until Trivia started. We were all down for some trivia but the host was downright rude and borderline mean. I can’t imagine many had fun. I’d go with someone else if I were in charge of that.
The space was so open and loud, with high vaulted ceilings, giving it a warehouse feel. It was difficult to have conversations. When it was time for the trivia game, we weren't able to properly participate because we couldn't hear the MC over all the noise. It also made it difficult to continue the evening as it appeared as though the trivia was going to take over the venue - if you weren't there for trivia, it felt like you were being chased out. The setting sun goes directly into your eyes if you face the open windows. There is only street parking, and the meters do not give you your money back if you overpay. We originally wanted to go for the rooftop experience, but it was closed for a private event. Evening came and it grew chilly so we couldn't stay unless we'd brought jackets. The waiters came by infrequently (granted, every table was full up), so I had to go chase down my bill at the end of the evening. The food was fantastic though - spiced lamb street tacos and the gemelli pasta were really excellent. I appreciated that they carried the beyond patty. The beer looked like they knew how to perform a good and proper pour. I'd go back for the food, probably during lunch instead of happy hour/trivia.
Excellent service, food and beers. They were very accommodating as we have a new baby that we brought along. So, this place is baby friendly. The staff was really great. Also, I recommend the brown ale. We sat on the roof, which was sunny and nice, but got a little warm, so I'd say dress accordingly.
Lovely place we loved every bit of it !!!
The beer was good and the food was OK. I'd recommend that more attention be given to the quality of the food and the price should reflect what you are getting for your dollar.
Eat before you go. Area needs more places like this, beer they have is good but wow terrible kitchen.
What a pleasant surprise. Almost all diners were upstairs on the outside patio, with ample outdoor gas heaters,(It can get chilly when the sun goes down in San Diego) and gas fireplaces, couches. lots of comfortable space. Numerous vegan and vegetarian items on menu, though not a vegetarian restaurant at all. Very attentive waiter without fawning. Good spectrum of house brews served in 3 sizes. Food was excellent, I had the "Market fish" , really nice presentation with squash blossom, squash, cauliflower soubise, English peas, fish was perfectly done, served hot. Definitely plan on going back.. despite difficulty parking.
Seven people met on the upper deck for a meeting for the local community association. Most had drinks, some had food. The chicken salad was excellent. It had a delicious and different dressing and lots of chicken and avocado. Colleagues loved the sausage rolls and their beer and wine. We were unable to reserve for 7-8 people on Open Table/the website as we were told on the phone message, but were easily accommodated once we got there at 5pm. The weather was breezy so a little cool; we were glad we had extra layers. The music was loud but not too loud to have a discussion with seven people over two tables. Very nice evening!
Great service, food and drinks
Good view. Need more healthy vegan options.
Loved this place. Great food and service. Ambience is so nice, especially on the roof top. Great selection of beers and food. Had the wings and yank burger. Delicious.
Great atmosphere. Needs to up its game on the food quality.
Great beer and incredible food!
Kairoa is great place to hav good food, good drinks, and a really great location. We ate up on the roof top and it was marvelous. I love all the different areas to just hang out. Our kids live in the neighborhood enjoy going to Kairoa for happy hour. Thank you for a great Mother's Day!
Great food and service, we had a lovely dinner!
The food was AH-MAZING!! Such a great brunch spot. Definitely check out the upstairs patio.
Fun brunch spot upstairs and great happy hour spot downstairs!
Being gluten, grain, dairy, legume and tree nut free makes every dining experience a challenge. Kairoa hit it out of the park. There were multiple options for me to choose from. My only wish would be a lamb burger.
I have been to Kairoa Brewing a few times now and I am a big fan. The rooftop is very pleasant on a weekend afternoon or for a sunset dinner. There is a good variety of drink options, from fruity beers to IPAs as well as wine and kombucha. The shrimp butties are my favorite item on the menu but I also enjoy the hot fries and avocado sandwich. They allow dogs which makes it a go-to weekend spot for us!
This place is great! I love the view and the food is fantastic.
We reserved an upstairs outside table which was great. There’s a fun energetic vibe. We like the food but wish the menu was larger. We enjoyed sampling the beers. It is nice that you can get 5 ounce beers so you can try several at once and compare them. This was our second visit. This time we brought friends and they really enjoyed it.
A new favorite spot, for sure. The ambiance, the food, the beer. The new Hamilton Fog IPA with the Kiwi Burger and Fries is the perfect Friday lunch.
It was wonderful, we spent hours there not realizing how much time had passed. Excellent Beer, cocktails and food. 15/10 will visit again soon. :D
The best part of my recent visit was sitting outside on the the second floor. I had made reservations for a friend's birthday and while the hostess still tried to seat us in the noisy sports bar downstairs, I pushed back. Although the outdoor seating was great, the server seemed frantic and the food was unremarkable. I might still recommend others in the hope that this was an off night, but I have to admit I'm not entirely convinced that it was.
This was a second visit to Kairoa. My first visit was awesome ...the food was great and the service was fantastic!
During the last visit to Kairoa we had brunch on a rainy Sunday morning, so we sat inside. This visit was Sunday brunch in the sunshine on the rooftop patio with the pups.
The servers were so neglectful, that after 15 minutes, we walked up to the bar to see if we needed to order at the bar...the servers were hanging out at the bar chit chatting with each other.. We finally placed our orders and got our drinks.. We received the wrong sized beer and when our food came, it was cold. Our service got worse as time passed, which was such a bummer. We were so excited to be going back and would have stayed and had more drinks if the service was better.
I live in the neighborhood and will be back, but hopefully the next experience will be more like my first.
I'm SO sorry about this. My name is Jess, and I'm the FoH Manager. I unfortunately wasn't here this Sunday but am beyond mortified to find out the servers weren't paying attention to guests. I've already spoken to the staff and the Manager who was covering for me while I was gone. If you can leave your name, I will put a giftcard at the host stand with your info on it for next time that you come in! We love being in this neighborhood and want to create a fun atmosphere for our guests/neighbors!
This spot has good food, great energy in a wonderful setting!
Great neighborhood spot. Wth New Zealand theme the menu offers different dishes that are enjoyable. best pavlova since we were actually in New Zealand. Unique beer selection and the upper deck is a great atmosphere in which to enjoy them.
Thanks for stopping by Dave! We're so happy to hear you had an enjoyable experience. Hope to see you soon!
Fun food, tasty beer, amazing beet hummus. Knowledgeable servers. I'll be back.
Great new brewery! Food was great! The staff needs a little more training but it’s new so I’m sure they’re still working out the kinks. I really appreciate we can bring our dogs to the balcony. Needs more umbrellas to block the sun. You get a table if you want to dinner but otherwise you have to stand/ sit at the bar. On busy days they’ll need more open seating especially when half the tables are empty. Overall very high quality brewery, I look forward to going back.
Our waiter was terrible, my husband is in the industry and this was the worst service we’ve ever had at a restaurant. I was embarrassed that I had recommended to our friends who joined us. It was a pity because the food was good.
The food and service were excellent. The house brewed beers did not disappoint. We all very much enjoyed our brunch and beer!
Great new place. Very impressed with food. Great ambiance. Loved the patio.
Great spot for brunch! The food was great and having vegan options is fantastic. The Spritz Blanc is one of the best morning cocktails ever and I highly recommend it. This will definitely be a place I'll visit often.
Kairoa was phenomenal! This was our first time and we will definitely be coming back. We had a rad server, Zack, he was great. Food was fantastic, the desserts were all very good and the beers were delicious. I enjoyed the Sauvignon blanc as well! Great spot in University Heights!
Cool spot to eat with friends that are vegan or vegetarian. They have something good for everyone. Would have been better if they had a full bar with cocktails but it is a brewery.
Great outdoor rooftop seating with friends and our toddler!
Beer was very good - food was disappointing -eight of us and no one loved their meals - some were acceptable
