Great chicken chili and Cuban sandwich
Hi we had gone to Kona grill in Baltimore- love the pretzels and cheese dip.(And the chicken)At Fairfax we tried the Macadamia nut chicken and it was pretty dry and tough. My husband loved the hamburger though- so maybe just come for apps and burgers. We should have ordered the swordfish.
I made reservations for Valentine’s Day with friends. We were a bit late on arrival which they were very kind about, come to find out the place wasn’t busy at all. Our server was very nice & accommodating as we wanted a booth & allowed/helped us move. Our server was very shy but nice, however, when receiving our food, our food was not hot (fresh). We could see the service line from where we were sitting & it was not busy. The restaurant including the bar must’ve been 1/4-1/3 occupied if that. So we didn’t understand why are food was basically cold. One of our sushi rolls was also falling apart. I honestly wouldn’t eat her again, not because it was terrible because it wasn’t horrible it just wasn’t up to par or anything to rave about as it currently has 4 stars.
We enjoyed our meal and the service was very good. We'll be back.
Great food, versatile menu, great service. Great for a date night, bottles of wine we’re half off!
Just tried the chicken chili and it was delicious. Worth a visit
Our waiter Ethan provided us with a great service experience including insight on the available dishes. The chili-glazed salmon was delicious and the jambalaya was pleasantly spicy but a very heavy entree. I was sad to learn that my favorite appetizer (the three taco combo with pork, black cod and shrimp that I frequently ordered as an entree) has been removed from the dining room menu. I will need to come back soon so that I can find a new favorite from the appetizer menu where the portion size is a bit more manageable than the entrees.
Disappointing meal. Calamari was soggy, drenched in oil. Fried rice was also very unpleasantly oily. Pad Thai wasn’t the most flavorful. Our daughter enjoyed her kids meal. Service was good, ambience great but food was sorely lacking.
Located in Fair Oaks Mall. Not very busy at lunch but a hot spot later. Excellent sushi. Limited non-alcoholic drinks. Service was OK, not very attentive.
It will be our new place to get together with friends. Good food and atmosphere.
We have twice recently after discovering Kona. They have a lot to chose from on their menu which is bringing us back. The service has been excellent. I am not sure why, but it hasn't been crowded. So give them a try.
Poor service. Waited so long for the food to come and when arrived it didn’t have all it needed ( had to ask for wasabi and ginger as not provided initially with the sushi plate) Asked for a spoon and had to remind the waiter 20 min later about my request.
Much improved over the previous three services.
We sat in the dining room after unbelievably slow experiences in the patio and at the bar. One server was trying to cover 14 tables, but the hostess and manager were chipping in to help where they could. Drinks from the bar came in 5 minutes or less.
Food served still hot, excellent as always.
The service was a bit slow at first but improved as the evening went on. The Sushi was excellent.
We have been frequenting Kona Grille since last year and enjoy everything we have ordered. The manager and staff are very friendly, professional, and responsive. We bring different friends with each visit. I recommend the avocado eggroll and calamari for appetizers, and the Chile Lime Shrimp salad - delicious!!
This was our third visit to a Kona Grill and our second at this location. It seems as though they are getting their training together (this is a relatively new location); it's still not exactly 5-star service, but they're very friendly and try hard. The food is really great and a crowd pleaser for even our pickiest eaters. It's a great option and we'll be back!!!
Last time I went here, the service was extremely slow throughout our lunchtime dining experience. We waited over 30 minutes to receive the bill. This time, we decided to try to go for dinner. The service again was painfully slow, despite plenty of open tables in the restaurant. It took over 20 minutes to receive drinks, let alone put in a food order. While our appetizer was comped, it doesn’t make up for the poor service for the second time in a row. Additionally, the macadamia nut chicken, which had been my favorite in other locations, came out extremely over cooked and in much smaller portions than in the past. We will not be returning; there are plenty of restaurants in Fair Oaks to choose from.
I was able to make lunch time reservations for a group of 7 (business holiday lunch); nice to have the reservation option. The table was accommodating to our needs, we had great service. It was quite, clean, and generally a pleasing atmosphere. It is open to the mall hallway, so not overly formal or romantic; but it certainly suited our needs. All the food was good, even for the non-sushi eaters who had salads, sandwiches, and stir-fry options. I will definitely select them again for a similar event.
We waited 25 minutes before anyone came to our high-top table, even though I made reservations through Open Table. The food and drinks were very good though, and the happy hour menu was a great value.
Very good sushi - along with good service. The dishes are more of an Asian fusion then straight Japanese sushi - IMO.
Good date night place. Like the one in Arlington better
Despite having a reservation and despite the dining room being almost empty, we were told there was a wait to be seated in the dining room but we could be immediately seated at the bar. Once we were seated in the dining room, it took a very long time after our order was taken for our food to be delivered again despite there being only a few tables occupied. I see no reason to visit this restaurant again.
We had five happy hour dishes. The only one that was disappointing was the calamari which was very chewy. Otherwise it was great.
The food was good but it took over 30 minutes to receive our order (a chopped salad and a grilled chicken dish). Then another long wait for the check. The server apologized and said it was because of a big group, but no offer of compensation was made.
Everyone in our diverse group seemed to enjoy their food. Though a couple of the dishes were a little clunky, for the most part the food was cooked properly and had good flavor. The kids options were particularly good. It was also nice to have gluten-fee, vegetarian and vegan options available, and two members of our group ordered from the gluten-free menu. Overall, we thought the prices were a little high. The casual, modern aesthetic was nice. The restaurant was not busy as we were there on a Sunday night after the mall had closed and there were only a few tables being occupied. Service was basically good, with only a couple of missteps; our waiter, though still new, was friendly and had a good attitude. Overall Kona Grill worked out for our group of 12.
This was our first time dining at Kona Grill so my husband and I didn't know what to expect. Everything we ordered from the appetizers to the main entree was outstanding. Our server was friendly and extremely helpful. The restaurant staff went out of their way to ensure we and everyone around had a great dining experience. My husband and I can't wait to return. I would give this restaurant more stars if I could, it was that good!
Our first time. Our last time.
The restaurant wasn’t busy on this Friday night.
Fried calamari was over-breaded, soggy and COLD! Left it unfinished....
The jalapeño-shashimi appetizer dish for $12 was a rip-off. Go to a decent sushi place, don’t waste your money here
In fairness, the tomato motzarella flatbread was ok.
Can restaurants that serve burgers AND sushi be reliably ‘good’ ? We spent $85 for a largely inedible dinner. AVOID!
Beautiful place! Great service
Food and service were fine. The only downer to the whole evening was the making of the reservation with open table. It only showed reservations available on a Saturday at 3:30 or 7:30. We ended up taking 7:30 even though we really wanted 6:00. When we got to the restaurant around 7 we saw the place was less than 1/4 full. No reason not to have reservations available for earlier.
Kona Grill is by far my favorite mall restaurant. The food and service have never disappointed - always good and sometimes great. We shared delicious salmon and shrimp entrees on this visit. My sprouts were prepared with bacon and roasted to perfection. I promise myself at every visit that I will come back for happy hour because the bar is lively and the happy hour specials look great. Perhaps on my next visit...
Good sushi and nice atmosphere for party and get together
Second visit to Kona for lunch and it was just as good as the first time. The food is quite tasty. Between the two visits with family, I have tried the Smoked Gouda Fondue with pretzel bites, Kona Chopped Salad, Chicken Potstickers, Cuban Sandwich and the Avocado Chicken Club Sandwich. I can say that all were very good, especially the salad, Cuban and Club sandwiches, and fondue. Kona Grill is definitely worth a visit. I will be back.
First time visit . Gouda fondue was very good, as well as the macadamian crusted chicken salad. We will be back
Food was very good. Wasn't very busy, so made it enjoyable to focus on my wife. And Service was accommodating.
Came back for their all day Sunday Happy Hours. Overall food and service were good, but many of their sushi rolls were just uninspired. Flavor was just too bland and absolutely no presentation of the rolls. HH prices were good. However, I wouldn't pay full price for these sushi rolls.
Service wasn't great but the Sushi was delicious . I would definitely eat here again.
They sat us at a back table that was so dark I had to pull out a flashlight to see the menu. There was a pendant light over the table but it wasn't turned on. They do have a very diverse menu but the food wasn't really that good. Finding parking was difficult. We ended up in a parking garage two blocks away. I think the restaurant was trying to be all things to all people, from a menu standpoint. It's hard to excel at all things.
Came for lunch on Sunday and decided to try their Sunday Happy Hours. We ordered flatbread and mostly sushi rolls. The rainbow and spicy tuna rolls were good, but their salmon roll was not. Please don't cook your salmon before making the roll. Texture and taste were just bad. Service and HH prices were good. Overall a great lunch, minus that bad salmon roll.
The sushi was amazing!! We also got the avocado spring rolls and were very impressed with them. The sauce they came with was really good! Can't wait to do back and try more of their Kona rolls!
The Cuban sandwich was really good. Everything came out hot and the service was good. They have a cool fish tank, bubble wall and mood lighting. They also have patio seating, bar, lounge area, and dining room.
