La Riv Kitchen & Bar
My wife and I went here for our 39th anniversary. Glad they were open on Sunday! We were amazed at the food! Everything, from the garlic bread, wedge salad, entree and dessert were prepared with love and caring. Nothing was “average”. Ordered the Tomahawk Ribeye. Oh my word....melt in your mouth succulent and perfectly aged! My wife and I agreed the bread pudding was the best we’ve ever eaten. You will not be disappointed!!!
Kevin Thank you so much for choosing La Riv for your anniversary celebration! We can't wait to see you back again at La Riv! Vira Chudasma Chef Owner La Riv Kitchen & Bar
Food was not very good.... And it was very expensive. :(
I feel fortunate to have stumbled upon La Riv one day before their grand opening. It was an absolute delight and I will return often. Food is amazing. So much more than traditional Italian. Service was good, wine was good, vibe was good. La Riv offers USDA Prime beef from a local ranch that is the essence of Texas. I ordered a 6oz filet and huge lobster tail for $56. Beat that somewhere.
It was Tuscan, which was ok by us. We started with the normal bread and olive oil with spices. I love garlic, but it was so garlicky that it was not enjoyable. Then, we ordered Moscato with the meal, and were served a Sauvignon Blanc. Imagine also a restaurant where there are no salt and pepper at the tables. The food was ok, but nothing ground-breaking. Overall, the food was bland, the service inexact and not attentive. We won't be back.
My husband went to La Riv because we thought it was a more upscale restaurant. For us, upscale means scratch made or at least well cooked food. My husband got the seafood risotto and I thought I would try their spaghetti and meatballs. We also ordered the calamari and a bottle of wine. The risotto was decent but fairly bland, but I was so disappointed in the spaghetti. I told my husband that it tasted like something from a box. It wasn't bad, but you don't want to eat at restaurants that taste like something you made at home. After we paid our bill, the manager was at the table next to us, telling the table that their pasta maker was broken, so there was no fresh pasta. I don't know why our server wouldn't have told us, because paying $16 for boxed spaghetti is absurd. Especially from a restaurant that you expect better food from. Our bill was $90 and we tipped our server $20. Granted, the calamari was $16 and the wine was $34, but to pay $40 for sub-par food is pretty disappointing. We definitely have no plans to go back there.
Excellent food and service.
Great food and we will be back. We went for Valentines dinner and you could tell the packed as many people as they could. Tables were close to each other and people we back to back. We had a great dinner and the service was great.
Food was very delicious. But being Valentines day, service was slow. I Understand that it was a busy time however it was taking the server 15-20 minutes to accommodate simple requests such as bringing a dessert menu. I would be willing to give the restaurant another try because the food was very good. Oh and there were plenty of tables, yet they sat us at an outdoor table they brought indoors... not the most romantic seating.
Our first dinner we had about a month ago here and thoroughly enjoyed so we decided to return and unfortunately wasn't near as good as it was our first time.
Went early to avoid crowds, which made for favorable experience/good service. Enjoyed the food, happy hour pricing on pizza/drinks. We will return.
La Riv is a hidden gem! The food is outstanding. They make everything in house and only serve the finest ingredients. I almost didn’t want to write this review because I don’t want it to get too crowded! But I have to say it is one of the best restaurants I’ve ever been to and that’s saying something. Because I’ve lived all over the world and am very particular. And if you go you must try the Tiramisu! It’s literally the best in the US.
Love this place! The real deal...great food for a fair price by a REAL chef!
The food is absolutely delicious, from the appetizer to the dessert.
Went on a Thursday night for a date. Place wasn't packed so they let us pick where we wanted to sit. Server was amazing and anticipated our needs. My date enjoyed herself, however, the music was a little louder than I would like, I still enjoyed the music and could have a conversation. Great food.
First time here and I really enjoyed the restaurant look and presentation of our food. Very delicious
Has potential! Extensive bar menu but no bar tender wait staff was making drinks and were under qualified. We received our appetizer and finished it before drinks or entree order was taken. We had the cheese board for appetizer, Italian Salad and Chicken Marsala for entrees. We came home hungry. The portions were small. We are pretty sure the chicken was not fresh but frozen and then fried. So if you’re looking for fresh.... the sauce and spinach was good though.
The food is always exceptionally authentic.
Wonderful food! Always a pleasure!
We have had a pleasant experience dining there on a number of occasions now. I would say the restaurant is consistently run well, based on what we have seen. The food has been well prepared and seems thoughtfully crafted. You should consider ordering two courses for the full Italian meal as portions are good sized, but not generous. It is a good meal that is well presented.
Everything was absolutely delicious from the mussels, arancini, shrimp appetizers to the Bolognese sauce, scallops over Risotto special, pizza, steak cooked to a perfect medium rare. Excellent martinis & wine choices! Highly recommend
We went for our 2 year wedding anniversary and enjoyed the experience. Prices were a little higher than necessary and my husband's spaghetti sauce tasted like it was not homemade, but overall, we enjoyed it and would come back for special occasions.
Overall great experience. It was a little busy considering it was Mother's Day , so it took a little while for the food to come out. We were still done, however, in a little over an hour. Our server was great. So, all things considered, not bad. Definitely recommend La Riv!!
Excellent food and wine. Service was also very good.
We enjoyed our dining experience at La Riv. The food was superb, the service friendly and efficient, and the overall ambiance was quite pleasant.
Loved the food, and Molly our server was awesome! She took care of every detail, it was like being back in Europe.
The food was great and the waiter was excellent. We got to meet the chef/owner and told her we would definitely be back!
My husband and I made table reservations anticipating a delightful dining experience for our 29th wedding anniversary . We were displeased with the service, food and ambiance. This might be a good place to meet someone for a glass of wine and a peice of cheesecake but do not expect a romantic, exclusive dining experience from this restraunt.
Overall it was a great experience. The food was great and service was very good. I was a little concerned at first because the menus were tattered, one had oil on it (dirty), and the wine/cocktail/beer menu was missing the beer listing. But we had a great time and a wonderful meal.
Absolutely amazing! The staff were so nice and were very friendly. They made me and my friend feel welcomed. The atmosphere is very classy and I just enjoyed my time there. The food was absolutely wonderful and I can’t wait until I go there again!
Chef Vira does a excellent job of bringing a little of Italy to Central TX. Any meal we have had here has always taken us back to our travels thru Italy! Highly recommend her wine pairing meals! Excellent food & wine!!
This was the worst experience I had ever had at a restaurant.
First I made this reservation 2 weeks prior to my visit. When I arrived 10 minutes prior to my reservation the hostess, who didn't acknowledge me and my party until we had stood there for 15 mins, expected me not to have a reservation or that we would leave.
Second we sat at the table for 30 minutes with all the servers avoiding all eye contact with me. By this time the diner was not full. There were several empty tables. It took myself going up to the hostess and telling her no one has came to take a drink order or asked about what we wanted.
Then, the server comes to my table says "I'm sorry, I'm really busy with some very important people, and I will go ask if someone can help y'all." So apparently I am not very important for any server to help me out.
The table and I watched the server go to the kitchen and ask two other servers to help out. And we see them both shake their head no after looking toward the table.
Finally after a total of 45-55 minutes, we get our order given to the new server. We finally get drinks. Tea was unsweetened, even though we asked for sweet. By this time there are only a couple of open tables and a line at the door.
At this point in the evening I'm frustrated and very hungry. After the fourth huge sigh from our waiter, I gave in. I told the server cancel my order and let me pay for my drinks. The server said okay let me go get the check.
So as I am paying for the wine, the head chef comes out; or at least I think that's who it is because she doesn't introduce herself but she has a chef outfit on. She tries to convince me and the group I'm with that it has been very busy. She apologizes and said that our usual server was extremely busy. Even though he straight up told us why he was busy. I have watched this place go from empty to somewhat busy. So at this point I'm done with lies and excuses.
Food was very good. However, it was Valentines Day so service was very slow. We waited over 2 hours for our food to be served.
Not too good for a first time visit. First the server forgot what wine we ordered then almost an hour later we got our dinner. It was a prixe fix menu for Valentine's day so the selections were limited. The lasagna was cold and the papperdelle noodle were about a foot long. The explanation from the head chef was that our ticket did not print out. And all we got was a "sorry"... Even though it is thirty minute drive from Waco we will give it another chance as the other items on the menu look pretty good.
We were disappointed with the experience. Brought guests from out of town and had experienced La Riv before and were quite satisfied with those visits. It seemed to us this time that La Riv has changed their menu in favor of reducing menu pricing, but failing to achieve the same quality as was present before the change.lo
Solid food but the service is hot or miss. We have eaten here several times and had great service. This last time, not so much. They tried to make us happy but it took over two hours for dinner. That is way too long. This place could be a jewel if they could ever button up their service.
Delicious meal, attentive service (ask for Beulah), nice atmosphere... Great date night in West Temple!
Food was excellent and the service top notch. It was New Years so there was a special menu. It was a little pricey but not exorbitant.
Limited New Years menu. I know "fresh" lobster must be flown in and is expensive but we felt the meal was overpriced for the quantity and quality of the food served. Not unhappy but a little disappointed.
Only one other couple in dining room when while we were there. My spaghetti carbanara was very authentic....and excellent in every way. My spouse had chicken marsala, with sautéed spinach. Both were oversalted, and tasted like dry marsala was used instead....best is a combination of dry and sweet for a balanced entrée. He was unable to finish due to the salt level. My after dinner port was wonderful, but the tiramisu we shared, was not set up enough, and was more like a soup, although flavor was ok. Service was outstanding and our server was excellent!! A bit pricey....our two entrees....one glass of wine for each of us...tiramisu to share....and coffees...total was $93 before tip.
