The food selection at La Sandia is always superb. I always get the fresh guacamole served tableside. & the pozole which is hearty & filling. You can also choose to be seated in the bar area where it’s busy or opt for a quieter ambience inside. Come during happy hour for the best value on drinks & appetizers!
Good food, terrible service. Would go again in the hopes of having a more responsive server.
Great guacamole and carnitas
Guacamole was very good but rest of food was mediocre.
Very nice atmosphere. Customer service is excellent. wait staff was extremely attentive. Managers are so very polite and hospitable. I would highly recommend La Sandia for family or group gatherings. Muchas gracias a managers Silvia and Amari (sp?).
Food was great.
Much attention from servers was good, frequently checking if we wanted anything.
Noise was too loud---had to shout to be heard in conversation.
Salsa was bland and had no flavor. Weird shade of brown. Chips were thick and bland as well. Drinks were okay—ordered house margarita. Food was just ok. We go here because it is never crowded but it’s easy to see why.
Decent restaurant- great ambience. Food was ok- didn’t care for the sweet corn cake- avoid if you dislike cheese with your corn.
Just not great.
Don’t expect something exciting or wonderfully flavorful.
Food was okay but not fabulous.
Selections need an update. Making the chips a little less fried could be a start. Try different beans rather than the old school refried (and full of fat) beans.
If you’re trying to eat fresh, healthy food, it will be difficult to find here.
Staff really tries — they’re cheerful and friendly but the restaurant needs attention.
It was great!
Took a while before our waitress took our order. We had a few issues and one dis was incorrect and the waitress forgot to bring the salt and lemon as we politely asked. The restaurant was not very busy and the service was slow. I would probably give it another chance, however I wouldn’t recommend quite yet. Sorry, just being honest.
Great food. Good staff that accommodated my large party.
It was my first time at this restaurant but I will be returning. The food and atmosphere were great. We weren't sure about the waitress though. I'm not sure that she ever said anything and we were not sure if she understood us. Perhaps she is just a quiet person. She was very nice though. Wonderful restaurant.
Small mistake occurred with the restaurant — management could not have been more responsive and professional.
The fajitas were $23 and came with very little meat and veggies. We eat here often and the quality of the food has decreased.
We couldn't hear each other to have a conversation at a circular table of 8. We waited 10 minutes for water, and 30 for our first drink. Our waiter we thought was the bus boy when he dropped the water - no greeting. He kept running off like a chicken with his head cut off, and it was uncomfortable to watch. He had a habit of serving one table and making a mad dash to the kitchen w/o making eye contact w/ other tables. We ran out of flour tortillas for the fajitas and it took over 10 minutes for them to bring more. He never checked on us after serving the food or first round of drinks, and when we got his attention to say one of us had not received a meal, it took 15 minutes for that meal to arrive at the table. That person also was told they had run out of her special water drink. She happened to be the birthday guest of the evening, but we had never mentioned it to restaurant staff. She loves Uncle Julio's and had not chosen this restaurant. None of us enjoyed the first time experience, and we drove 45 minutes to get there. I am fairly sure none of us will be going back.
Ate here before watching a movie. Not impressed with the server. First she brings food that no one in our section ordered. When she brought our taco salads, she brought the wrong one for my friend. The server was frazzled.
Hi Juanita - First and foremost, thank you so much for taking the time to leave us a review. We are so sorry to hear that your service was not up to our usual standards. We will address these concerns with our staff to ensure this does not happen again. We hope that you will give La Sandia another chance in the future!
The food was so salty and small portions for the price tag of each entree.
We each had the mixed tacos - very tasty and nice to be able to have the variety of flavors. Excellent cocktails, too!
Thanks so much for taking time to leave us a review, Judy! We are glad that you enjoyed the cocktails & the tacos. We hope you will come back and visit us again at La Sandia! :)
Great service... good food
Thank you so much for the great review - we hope you can come back and visit us again soon!
We came on a Tuesday and the restaurant appeared to be understaffed due to multiple large parties. The server and manager were really great in addressing an issue my dining partner had, but overall, it took the server a long time to take our dinner order and then we waited even longer for our food. The food ended up coming out lukewarm and not fresh. I don't think it's necessarily the fault of our server or the manager on duty, but it wasn't the best dining experience for either of us.
Dear Archer - I am sorry to hear we were not able to provide you with desirable level of service and food expectations while dining at La Sandia. We appreciate your feedback and will take this as an opportunity to continuously improve our operations and hospitality.
I celebrated my birthday. Service was great and food was really good. My friends liked the place as well. We had a great time :)
Thanks for celebrating your birthday with us, Paulina! We hope you had a wonderful day and please come back and see us again soon.
First time here, definitely not our last!! Great dining experience all the way around!!
Thank you so much, that makes our day! We look forward to welcoming you back to La Sandia.
Initial seating service poor - no one at hostess stand with wait over 10 minutes and while very few tables were filled we were seated in a high traffic area. Wait service outstanding. Food and drink average. Restaurant too noisy to enjoy conversation.
I am sorry to hear about your wait at the host stand. That is not in line with our high service standards. I am glad to hear that the rest of the service was better. I am disappointed to hear about the quality of your meal. We pride ourselves on excellent food and will be meeting with our chef to ensure only the freshest ingredients are served. If there are any specific suggestions you may have on how to improve our food, please email me at email@example.com m
A nice Mexican restaurant with excellent food and good ambiance for regular lunch/dinner.
I would not recommend this place. I asked to be moved to a different table and the server got angry and aggressive. The restaurant was practically empty and should not have been a big deal. Not going back at all!
Dera Maya, I am sorry to hear we were not able to provide you with desirable level of service and food expectations while dining at our restaurant. I will make sure to address your feedback with our entire La Sandia team during our daily pre-shift meetings. We appreciate your feedback and will take this as an opportunity to continuously improve our operations and hospitality. Best, Molly Guest Experience Team
The service was terrific. Friendly affable Waiters. We had tremendous tableside guacamole. For a family of 6 year was quite reasonable
Thank you for the review Bob! We are so glad to hear that you and your family enjoyed the guacamole and that the service was up to our high standards. I will make sure our staff is recognized for great work. We hope to see you and your family back at La Sandia soon. Best, Molly Guest Experience Team
Service was bad, waiter seemed miserable to be there, we couldn’t find him so we asked other staff with what we needed. The flautas were over fried and chicken was dry.The tortilla soup was good, the fajitas were ok they needed seasoning. Not sure I would go back.
We're sorry to hear about this experience. We truly value the feedback from all of our guests and will use your review to improve our service and quality, moving forward. If you would like to discuss the details about your visit further, we encourage you to reach out to us directly so we can find a way to make things right. Food was quite good. Particularly enjoyed the Guacamole and the fish tacos. Would definitely come back
Great food - Excellent Service! Will surely visit again!
As my family often does at Mexican restaurants, we ate too many tortilla chips, spoiling our appetite for the good stuff. Tableside guacamole was a big hit. Portion sizes were large, so come hungry or plan to bring leftovers home!
I’ve been here a few times. I enjoyed the food as usual but the service was HORRIBLE. The waiter did NOT care in the least bit. He was very dismissive and not attentive at all.
I am sorry to hear we were not able to provide you with desirable level of service and food expectations while dining at La Sandia. We pride ourselves on excellent food and service, and our team clearly let you down. We will meet with our service team to ensure something like this does not happen again. If you would like to further discuss your visit and ways we can earn a second chance, please email us at email@example.com m Warm Regards, Molly Guest Experience Team
Good food, the passion fruit frozen margarita was a 10/10, the cost was acceptable for what you received. The only negative was sound levels were a little high but it was in a mall and kids are there, so nothing that can really be done about it and this is the DC area so that is life.
Excellent tableside guacamole. Enchiladas and tacos were tasty. Fish taco was my favorite
The food was outstanding and service was good but wow, the bathrooms were absolutely disgusting (very dirty and smelly, toilet paper all over the floor, dirty overflowing toilet...). The music in the bathroom was also inexplicably loud. Unfortunately, the bathroom situation negatively impacted the experience for our whole party despite such a wonderful dinner in the restaurant itself!
I am sorry to hear that the state of the bathroom negatively impacted your dining experience. I have been sure to notify the management and staff to make sure this will not be an issue in the future. We hope that you will come back and have a better overall visit without anything to detract from the meal and service. Thank you for the feedback and if you would like to further discuss this, please email me at firstname.lastname@example.org m Warm Regards, Molly Guest Experience Team
I’ve been going to la sandia for years! There was a time I was going twice a month. Last night was awful. It took forever to get our initial contact from our waitress, then took forever to get our drinks. I always order a mojito; when I received it it tasted like only alcohol with nothing else, so I asked for it to be remade, it still tasted awful but by this point I didn’t care. Our tacos came out all mixed up. It’s probably one of the last times I’ll go, sadly.
They have an amazing happy hour! Seriously, cheap tacos, drinks, and the guac is amazing! Our waiter was attentive and I was overall really pleased
Great food and drinks...happy hour prices on a Sunday early evening were an added bonus. Will definitely be back again!
This place used to be much better. The server had a poor attitude and service was a bit slow. Our drinks were not mixed properly - there was too much agave. The guacamole was good. The Volcano Taco was OK but didn’t seem like a cohesive dish. The Veggie Fajitas are a terrible value. At $18 ($2 less than the steak), I expected more portobello mushrooms. Half the dish was onions, with just some small julienned zucchini and some corn. The beans were inedible salty. I asked for no cilantro, and the guacamole that came on the dish had cilantro in it. Sadly, I’m unlikely to go back. Used to love this place; what a shame.
My family and I have been going to La Sandia ever since it opened. The restaurant has had a lot of ups and downs. Tonight was no different. Food was great tasting, but service was slow and inaccurate. Waitress was nice enough but inattentive in getting order right and being prompt with drink refills and the check. Value of meal definitely lower--taco dinner no longer includes rice and beans and tortillas are smaller. Managers did try to address our dissatisfaction (free dessert and rice and beans side) and they should be commended for that though we weren't asking for special treatment. But I am afraid that La Sandia (and perhaps other Richard Sandoval restaurants) is facing the same fate as so many other restaurants in the current economic environment.
