Larkin's on the River
I was a little dissatisfied because items I saw on the website were not listed on the menu
Food, service, and atmosphere have to be among the best in Greenville. I could not imagine a better experience for a business lunch.
Dined here for the 1st time during Restaurant Week, so the value was excellent! Prices are in line with what you would expect for the quality of food we received. Steaks were melt in your mouth delicious. Service was a bit slow at first, but then picked up after our server finally came to take our order. We were seated in the center of the restaurant and had a lot of traffic around us during the meal, so I suggest a table on the outside perimeter or a booth. We will return!
Thanks for joining us during Restaurant Week and we are thrilled you loved your experience! We look forward to seeing you again.
Absolutely amazing evening thanks to Larkin’s and Michael. We came for restaurant week, but didn’t order from that menu. Deviled eggs were an interesting take. Definitely worth a try. French onion soup was delicious. We both got steaks and they were like butter. Get. The. Clemson. Blue cheese. If you don’t do anything else get that on a salad or the steak. They should bottle it. We will be back in the summer to see the amazing view. Wonderful dinner experience where they didn’t rush us and let us enjoy it all. Thank you guys!
Thank you for sharing such detail about what you loved at Larkin's!
Excellent food and service went restaurant week great value .
Our server Michael was professional and knowledgeable
Will be back
And we look forward to having you back!
Tried for restaurant week to get a taste of what they offer. Food was good—typical high end steak house taste and feel.
Thanks for visiting!
First visit, started at the bar. Bartender Steve was excellent both in attentiveness, congeniality, drink prep and food service. Crab cakes were tasty and oysters on the half were presented properly.
Sat outside for dinner which was lovely on a very temperate night for mid-January. Took advantage of the Restaurant Week menu. Him: fois gras (excellent but served in a 'gravy' - never saw that presentation before), filet (upgrade, OK, served with potatoes - on the cold/stiff side, and asparagus - very good). Her: deviled eggs (OK), halibut (OK). Dessert was flourless chocolate cake - which was made with chocolate other than Valrhona so it was average. We paired with recommended wine selection. Nothing special there - house wine would've served just as well.
Our server was great and the atmosphere on the patio was very pleasant.
All in all, we'll return for bar bites and drinks at the bar, probably not for dinner until we've tried all the other upscale restaurants in DT Greenville.
Thanks for taking the time to share your feedback with us. We take guest feedback to heart and use it to improve our business.
My wife and I love Larkins on the River. We dine there before every Peace Center event. It is adjacent to the venue.
The food is wonderful and the wine list is very comprehensive. I can see why Larkin's has consistently been ons Wine Spectator's Awards list since 2006. Prices are fair for the level of food and service given.
The service staff always inquire whether we are attending the show and make every effort to ensure that we will not be late for it. We also love the convenience of Larkin's free valet parking. We drive in from Asheville and it is great not to have to search for a parking space downtown.
We will continue to be loyal customers.
The term "Loyal Customers" warms our hearts. We love when the work we put in to create an outstanding dining experience touches our guests. See you soon!
Larkin’s used to be our favorite steak place in the US, even over Bones, in Atlanta. That was when Alex Castro was chef. The sides literally exploded in your mouth and the steak was always perfectly cooked to order. That was then, this is now: the sides were merely ‘good,’ and some of the best ones off the menu; the waitress tried to sell us two ‘rare’ steaks as ‘medium.’ Even the fix was still undercooked. Considering the poor opening of Larkin’s Italian attempt, Lemoncella, a year ago and this experience it is tempting to think that Larkin’s On The River has been all about Castro the last fifteen years - in spite of mediocre Management. Perhaps that’s why he left. We would try this again, but not without considering one or two other steak places first.
Thanks for sharing your opinions. It takes a team to run any business and Larkin's is certainly team driven!
The food was excellent and the location was great. The service was good but not on par with the rest of the experience.
Always very good food, we still feel this is the best steakhouse in Greenville. Service was definitely lackluster. Usually the waitstaff is very attentive but our waiter was a little slow to bring bread, fill water glasses, return to the table to check on us. In the past I’ve noticed that the waiters are often helping one another to provide prompt and expectant service but it seemed they were all in their own worlds, focusing on their assignments and failing to notice needs af adjacent tables. Never saw the manager, in the past the manager has come by to check on us. We visit Larkins about 6-8 times a year and have been patrons for over 10 years, so I feel comfortable sharing as this hopefully is an anomaly and not a suggestion that the restaurant is declining.
Hearing from our guests is very important in helping us stay on top of our game. It is really wonderful to hear from our long time guests. We have the same high standards for food and service that we set for ourselves when we started our restaurant and I can tell you that providing a dining experience that exceeds our guests expectations is why we are in business. Thanks for your feedback.
Wonderful dining experience as usual! The service was exceptional and the selections delicious.
Great for a romantic date night!
We love to provide the touches that make a date night extra special! We are also perfect for proposals. Just saying...
Food was wonderful. Service was outstanding. Will definitely return. Loved that ir was an old restored building with history. So unique.
Larkin’s is our favorite restaurant and as usual it did not disappoint us! The food was spectacular and the staff were attentive and courteous. Our server, Neena, was especially wonderful! She really helped make my husband’s birthday a great celebration!
This was pre-theatre catch a bite. Appetizers and salad were just perfect. In fact I am still craving that Winter Salad!
Pre- theatre dinner. Great food. Very accommodating to meet showtimes. Excellent service
Food was good not outstanding good steakhouse however service was just terrible. Not a warm vibe in the place
I'm sorry to say this to the management of the restaurant: It's about the details. The restaurant is in a lovely spot, literally right next to the Peace Center, and right on the river. It's a perfect place to enjoy a meal either before or after seeing a show.
HOWEVER, please pay attention to detail. Your restaurant is "industrial-styled", with brick and exposed beams and air vents. For a restaurant of this cost/quality, I shouldn't be able to look up and see months of dust collecting on the exposed vents, and wonder how long it's been since someone actually got up on a ladder and cleaned the place.
Let's be honest: There are multiple restaurants in Downtown Greenville with similar menus and costs, and they, too serve excellent food, but I won't look up and see neglect.
Management: Pay attention to details, or you will eventually find yourself seeking new employment when your place goes belly up.
The service was very slow. Fortunately we had plenty of time. The food was okay. My wife had the salmon and she said the spice was too salty (she avoids salt and recognizes that other people might be fine with it). I tried the BLT with fried green tomato. It had lots of bacon - too much for me - and I learned that I'd much rather have fresh tomatoes than fried green (this is my preference, not a fault of Larkins).
The food at Larkin’s is consistently delicious...but the service is consistently poor. We will continue to return to Larkin’s because we truly think they make some of the best food in Greenville, but will always expect to be there an hour longer than necessary!
Someone spilled salsa on the floor behind us and no one cleaned it up the whole time we were there.
We asked several times. Servers and customers just walked through it.
Fantastic service, amazing food, cozy and warm covered patio. I am always hesitant to try new places because I have Celiac disease, but Larkin's was recommended to me. I decided to try it on a date night and was blown away by the server's knowledge and the understanding I experienced there. Apparently the owner has Celiac as well! I often feel ashamed and reluctant to mention to servers my dietary needs since so many places have no idea how to handle Celiac diners and others will be outright hostile about it. Even worse are the ones who make false promises and then I suffer the consequences for days. But when I mentioned Celiac to the server, she knew exactly what it was, told me the owner had it as well, and said she would bring gluten-free bread out! When she brought it out, she even told me the brand. This is nearly unheard of, in my experience. Menu items are clearly marked gluten-free or not, and I asked for a small adjustment to a dish and was told it was absolutely no problem. My food and my companion's were both delicious, and we really enjoyed the heated, covered patio on a chilly night. I also really appreciated how quiet it was, and was happy that we opted to sit outside rather than inside where I could see televisions. Why does every restaurant feel the need to have televisions these days? Anyway, we very much enjoyed our meal and the entire experience. I can't wait to go there again, especially when the weather warms up so we can better enjoy the setting. Highly recommend to anyone, Celiac or not!
Food selection was set and not allowed to order off the open menu, this was discovered after being seated.
New Years food was exceptional.
I take my three Son-in-laws out each year for a special meal and this year we chose Larkin’s. I took my Daughters a few years ago and have never been disappointed.
Everything was superb! Impeccable menu and wine options. Great for special occasions, date night, or whenever you are craving excellent steak.
We love your passionate response to your experience! Thanks for sharing.
Delish!! Halibut was perfectly cooked
We love that you sent a review "Just for the Halibut"!
We told our server it was a birthday celebration. She didn’t do anything. The table next to us got a cheesecake?!?
Serenity was great. She made our complete visit awesome!
Brian was the most excellent server for us. We could not have had a more wonderful evening anywhere else.
Food, ambiance very good, service even better, price a little high
We are so happy you had a 5-Star experience!
We were celebrating my husband’s birthday. It was awesome as usual. We LOVE Larkin’s.
The service was very slow - more than 50 minutes from order to serving of the meal. This despite few customers. The food was inconsistent. Hamburger was cold when served and the lower bun quite soaked, due to meat sitting on it for so long before being served.
The inconsistency of the food and the service is a pattern I’ve noticed the last few times I’ve eaten there. I very much doubt we’ll return.
Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We take our guests comments and use them to correct any mistakes we may have made. Our number one priority is to create a memorable dining experience for our guests. If you would like to talk about your experience, please call the restaurant and ask for Bruce.
We visited Dec 24 for lumch
The restaurant was decorated for Christmas Delicious Delicious!
Yummy catfish sweet potato with crepe brûlée
Mom had fresh crisp butter lettuce salad with steak.sadly the beef had gristle and thick three inch fell strip. Yuck! Wonderful whipped mashed potato
Nice dessert menu - had French pressed coffee.
Overall very lovely with attentive and knowledgeable friendly service
tucked away and walking in falls park stop by!
We are happy that we could be part of your Christmas celebration for you and your family. We look forward to seeing you again!
One in my party ordered the fried chicken; it was over fried and completely dried out. She claimed it was inedible. Another ordered a medium rare steak & eggs. The steak was at the very least, cooked to medium, some was well done. My order was the seafood omelet, which All of the seafood was served on top of the eggs, not inside as would be expected by the term omelet, and was over-sauced.
I am so sorry to hear about your issues with the food. We will speak to our kitchen staff about your experience so that we work to ensure that it doesn't happen again. Thanks for your private note sharing that your service was friendly, professional and attentive. We look forward to seeing you back to provide you with the experience we pride ourselves on providing!
Great food and great service! Wonderful birthday brunch!
Glad you had a five star birthday!

We look forward to your return Bill!
