This was a fun special occasion venue. The “mixologist” made a delicious drink from me based on things I like and what I was eating. We will return!
For afternoon tea $68 per person was an extremely high amount of money to pay. Some of the tea sandwiches not very good. Our server was excellent. Not sure if I will come back just due to to price.
The menu said, “Coq Au Vin”. When I told the waiter that’s what I wanted (pronouncing it correctly), he said, “What?” So, I pointed it out to him, and he said, “Oh, you mean the chicken.”
Prix fixe 3 course Thanksgiving dinner. Very limited menu and two items were gone. Service very slow. Turkey with brioche stuffing good but a little salty, coq au vin surprisingly dry. Sides were uninspired with a vegetable ragout only half cooked. Only two desert offerings, but they were the highlight of the meal. With wine and a few drinks, the total bill for 3 was over $400. Not going back.
We came for Thanksgiving dinner with another couple, dear friends. We were looking forward to the usual "Green Room" over-the-top experience, however, it wasn't to be. They were out of quite a few food items (apparently they took the prime rib off the menu the evening before we arrived---we were all looking forward to that), it seems they served the Thanksgiving menu for more than one day so the favorites were gone by the actual Thanksgiving dinner day. No cheese course available, desserts were good, but tiny. The main course of turkey was sad, very dry, hardly any stuffing, had to beg for extra gravy. The best things were the first course, the mushroom soup and steak tartar were very good. We had to ask for the Parker house rolls more than once, they were ok, but not the best we've had certainly not worth $6 extra, should have been included. The branzino smelled fishy. The Coq au Vin was probably the best main. Sadly, we spent $450 for two couples including two drinks apiece and tip, but didn't get the value we have come to expect at the Hotel DuPont. It will probably be awhile before we return.
Food was just ok. First visit since renovation. Tacky fake artwork on the walls was a real turnoff, given how spectacular the room is/was. Our waiter was very kind, but knew absolutely NOTHING about the menu - so unlike the old Green Room.
He Came up and said “Are you ready to order?” Before we even had drinks ordered. Said he wanted to take our entire order at once for safety.
Menu was different than that advertised online, and less choices. No beef on menu without an up charge to an already pricey meal. 1 vegetable per person, and no salad. Swordfish was flavorful but dry. Cow au vin was not, tasted like rotisserie chicken. Desserts were mediocre and very uncreative.
Bartender was lovely and attentive when selecting wine.
First time at the new Le Cavalier. Was fantastic. Felt like I was in Paris. The food was delicious, the atmosphere was wonderful. Great brunch with the family.
The food was truly exceptional. A rare experience in the Wilmington dining scene. The renovation they have done to the space is beautiful. I live in Wilmington and I’m thrilled to see places like the former Green Room be revitalized in this way. I highly recommend this restaurant!
Five stars. Great food. Great environment. Would recommend.
Great food, great ambiance. Will be back!
Great place. Really enjoyed ourselves.
Everything was so good, food, service, ambiance. The only thing I have to say I wouldn't go there too often because of price, however the portion sizes are great for the price. The Bloody Mary was the best I've ever had, ever.
Overall it was good. Loved the food. The beef and veal were good. The frites were unimaginative. Huge shrimp. The drinks we ordered were served backwards. I got my friend’s drink and she got mine. To be fair, they were similar. We did not send them back! Thanks for the complimentary dessert. I found the music to be annoying. Too loud and intrusive. I like the new decor. Surprised you were not open for happy hour at the bar until five.
Having been to the Green Room many times, this place is a disappointment. I was expecting very good French food, a casual atmosphere, and moderate plus prices. They have done little to the decor besides remove the drapes, install more modern window treatments, remove the heavy furniture for something lighter and brighter, oh and change the lightbulbs in the chandeliers. With the walls and ceiling the same, the atmosphere is rather incongruous in my opinion. Food is very expensive for what you get. Onion soup was fantastic, squash soup was way too spicy, branzino was excellent, lamb ragu was very disappointing, apple cake was OK, pot o creme dessert another disappointment. Wine prices also high. Service was spotty; for example desserts delivered without silverware, waiter delivered check without asking us if we wanted more coffee, etc. Wanted to try it for the experience, doubt I would ever go back.
Food and menu was really good. Service was pleasant and attentive. We ate outside (in November!) and it was nice. We had hen of the woods mushroom appetizer and it was delicious.
We sat outside for Sunday brunch and it was great.
Always enjoy sitting at the bar at Le Cav. It was a solo “treat” brunch for me and it was nice to see Amira behind the bar and so nice that she remembered by drink of choice (the pear mimosa). Tried the avocado tartine - what we heathens call “avocado toast” and it was spot on. Plus I think the bacon may be the best in Wilmington.
A longtime fan of the Green Room, I was delighted by the renovations! The French vibe is great and outdoor dining option was visionary considering it was planned long before covid days. We were there for brunch and were very happy with the menu and the quality of the food. Croque Madame, Blood Marys, and even the prime beef burger were all delicious!
Room is beautiful, very limited brunch menu, but food is good. One negative comment is the hostess did not insist that people that were not eating and leaving to use rest room wear a mask though signs throughout Hotel Dupont stated that masks must be worn. There were at least 2 diners who did not do this. Shame on the restaurant for not enforcing this better in light of COVID-19 and transmission rates. We did complain and got a lame excuse from someone who appeared to be the manager. This incident made us seriously reconsider coming back to try dinner or another brunch. Get with the program Le Cavalier!!!
A must-try restaurant in downtown Wilmington! Lovely atmosphere and great cocktails.
Our 2nd time there. Service is average. Food is B+. My Caesar salad was 2 big romaine leaves. Seriously?
The cocktails were yummy. That was about the only good thing. The waiters in jeans, no table cloths, the e-menu.... in a word: disappointing. This is NOT the Green Room, which didn’t have to be a bad thing, change can be great. But this place has evolved in the wrong direction.
The food at the restaurant was a good try, but not great. Variety of beverages was good. zService was horrible! Waiter was asked question on ingredients of a drink, got them wrong, brought drink with wrong ingredient anyway. Later forgot to bring a drink which we waited for a long time, chose to mostly talk to the 'head male' at the table, including asking him for everyone's dessert order without including anyone else in the conversation. Restaurant does not validate parking, which would be ok, if they told us, but waiter disappeared with our parking coupon and took a while to come back having charged us to a second check, which we had to resign. We were concerned all night that we might have been charged twice, which did not happen. Lastly, bathrooms are outside the restaurant, lock in the women's bathroom worked the first time for a member of our party, but not the second time for the other female member of the party. Two people who looked like they might be managers came to ask us about dinner twice, never introduced themselves about what their role was.
The food wasn’t ANYWHERE near what I expected. The pork belly was over cooked, same components to multiple dishes, our bottle of Merlot was ice cold and we felt very rushed to order. Would never recommend this place to anyone.
Food was really good, different from other spots in Wilmington but it had a fun vibe and really good faood and drink selections. The place is immaculate, very instagrammable too.
We love coming here. The food is always amazing, cocktails energizing, staff is friendly and the atmosphere echoes sophistication.
I treated my brother-in-law & sister-in-law to dinner at Le Cavalier last night. Sean, our server, was excellent! My brother-in-law loved the onion soup. We enjoyed the half price wine night (Wednesdays). The apple cider cake was heavenly.
Run, don’t walk to this newly opened, and much anticipated gem in the Hotel du Pont in Wilmington, DE.
Chef Tyler Akin is creative and masterful in delivery of an absolutely spectacular menu while the front of house provides service that makes you feel like you are a guest in their own home.
Heat lamps and a soon-to-be-built outdoor tent will allow for outdoor dining well into the holiday season!
We drove in from CT for the meal and will definitely be back!
The food was great the place it’s new had a great time
We haven't been out since March. This was a beautiful treat!
Lovely atmosphere, just as special as the original Green Room; food was delicious, a little pricey; Aaron/Erin, our waiter, was professional and provided top notch service; Jack's knowledge about the history of the building/hotel added a memorable touch to the evening. I look forward to our next visit!
Food was excellent, service was odd. We were given a QR code for the menu...it was unreadable, small pale typeface in a PDF that couldn’t be enlarged. We ordered the steak au poivre for two, they dropped the entire serving at our table with no serving utensils, you’d think the server would plate it at table, right? The chicken liver starter was awesome, but arrived with three brioche toasts that accommodated about 1/4 of the serving. The place was noisy with club loud soundtrack ( soft jazz or piano would have been so much more appropriate ) They did a pretty good job of Covid prep. The decor was so so. Banquets were lovely, but tables on the outside were cheap looking wood grain Formica. Given the history of the place, I’m disappointed. La Fia and Eclipse offer a much better experience for our dollar. Service was sub par and inexperienced.
Amazing food in a beautiful setting. Service is impeccable and never disappoints!
The food was very good. The "natural" wines were of questionable quality and served in quite small portion glasses, even though the price per glass was in the high end category. Someone has decided that to qualify as a bistro the background must be filled with quite loud music that was offensive, at least to us.
This place is amazing the staff is very attentive and pleasant. We had Aaron has our waiter he was outstanding the manager made us feel at home and welcome. Well priced and big portions. If you like French cuisine this is the place for you 10/10
Bad experience began with outside heaters not working, poor service ( salads were brought out with entrees, second glass of wine request took 10 minutes so we were almost done eating when it arrived, check brought out before table was cleared) and the food (salad and entree) was very average at best.
This restaurant is a MUST! The service was outstanding and not overly fussy. The menu had good choices- I had the mussels and fries- fantastic sauce and the Parker House Rolls were divine. We can’t wait to go back!
The only comment I have is l asked for a certain bottle of wine $$$$$. on the menu and they didn't have it. It was disappointing.
Beautiful dining room with great food and service. French onion soup, lobster, swordfish and dessert were all fantastic. We also tried the signature Hotel DuPont cocktail. The price was reasonable for a great experience. We had brunch the following morning and that was good too.
