Prime filet, crispy potato, olives
Brown butter, apple cider vinegar
Prime bavette au poivre Sarawak, frites
This my 7th time since the opening and everything has really come together for the team at Le Cav. The service was spot on and timely, the wines were perfectly paired and served at the right temperature, and the food was exceptional. Well done!
The food and the atmosphere were excellent as was the service, but the fact that they changed my reservation time twice and they changed the menu from the original menu I expected when I made the reservation was a major disappointment.
Excellent drinks, service, and ambience. Limited Mother's Day menu food only fair.
The food wasn't worth the high price. The drinking glasses smelled bad. I asked to replace the first glass and the second one smelled just as bad.
My family dined here last Saturday night to celebrate my wife’s birthday. It was our first visit since the restaurant reopened under new management. What was always the most beautiful dining room in Delaware has been subtly redecorated into a French cafe themed venue. The addition of a sizable bar that now occupies one end of the dining room fits nicely and provides a much-improved staging area for pre-dinner cocktails or bar dining. The old bar, which is in a separate room, is reserved for special events. Other than the seating, new lighting fixtures adjacent to the tables, and a fresh supply of impressionist art on the walls, little else was changed. That was a good decision, since the spectacularly ornate ceiling, walls and tile floor defined the room in exquisite Edwardian style.
As to the food, the menu was limited but the selections were varied and appealing to a variety of palettes. Our appetizers were delicious and arrived in a timely manner. Our main courses, on the other hand, required an extensive wait and were lukewarm at best. All the ingredients were there for a delicious meal if they had been delivered properly.
Granted we’re still dealing with a pandemic and perhaps some of the staff was still green, but one can only forgive so much. The hostess undoubtedly agreed, since she apologetically comped us for the entire meal including a pricey bottle of wine.
Notwithstanding the poor showing, I would return and give this venue a second chance. The room is too beautiful to ignore and hopefully the new management will get its house in order.
Food was excellent but service was extremely slow
We love the ambiance. Service and food were impeccable. Highly recommend for a special occasion.
Apps were excellent. Dinner was superb. Desert was a huge letdown (avoid the rye chocolate cake). Overall we were very happy, but absolutely disappointed with a poor ending. We’ll be back as the setting and savory items were on point.
Another icon dies. We’ve enjoyed the fine dining in the Green Room probably 150 times over thirty five years and we were looking forward to their reopening. Fortunately, the new owners couldn’t destroy the classic room because if it’s protected landmark status. The redo was nice.
However, I heard they sent the chef to France for inspiration and to develop the new menu. He must have kept the expense money and gone to Camden for menu ideas! Only six poorly selected entrees including a cheeseburger, a chicken breast, a thin fried steak patty with fries and a boiled cauliflower head. This is an overpriced joke for a bistro menu. If the you or the new owners want to visit a French bistro in Wilmington try Eclipse.
The service was good, but slow.
I won’t return.
Le Cav was fantastic. This was our third time in the last two months and each time has been terrific. The cocktails are as creative and delicious as it gets. The bar itself is the best in town. And the food, as representative of modern bistro fare truly delivers. Maybe the best steak frites I’ve ever had. And the chicken and the Brandi...omg! Not to be missed. We will be back for the wine dinner on the 20th!
Date night! My wife and I had a great evening thanks to the staff. Our entrees were great, but took about an hour to receive. Something about the printer not connecting with the kitchen. It was okay though, we were enjoying each others company in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. Once our meals did arrive they were really good. The staff comp'd the entrees and apologized several times over. No worries! We had no place to be and were relaxing after a long week. Even though dinner was long, we still thoroughly enjoyed it.
Our best experience yet. Our server, V, was excellent. She made this a dining experience rather than an eating experience. If we could be sure we’d have her every time we dine, we’d be there every week.
Would return in a minute. Service was excellent, loved my bronzino and the ambience superb. Thank you!
A lovely setting for brunch. I had the special which was an omelet with lobster topping.
It was delicious. Waiter who normally worked at the bar was very helpful.
A group of 6 dined for breakfast and dinner. While the restaurant is beautiful and the waiters spot on, the management and food are lacking in many areas. Fried eggs were ordered for breakfast in three different stages of doneness but all came out well done. Reservations were made with the understanding 6 people could sit together. This was confirmed twice with the front desk of the hotel and the restaurant but upon arriving the manager was unbending about only 4 seated together. Our evening was ruined and the food only average.
Food is prepared in a very "unusual"way that did not appeal to anyone in the party of four.
Steak tartare had no yolk in it, was briny from admixed olives.
Foie gras is so blended it is nearly runny.
Mother of hen mushroom appetizer ere good and the highlight of entire dinner
Duck breast was prepared ok but served on top of se very rich, mayo-like sauce with french fries as a side.
Chicken was literally half of chicken with burned and bitter skin and dry meat.
Bronzing was prepared ok but served on top of some very rich cream-like sauce.
Burger was ok, but nothing to come back for.
Very different and unexpectedly unappealing food preparation and ingredient pairing compared to Green Room.
Outside seating does not provide enjoyable ambiance.
Outside seating had no cover and no heating because their heaters were "acting up", all of them.
Outside seating is right next to the traffic light, often had to deal with cars
sitting at the light with very loud music.
Service was awful. Staff needs to be trained. Most wearing jeans. Main course served before we had finished our appetizers. The food went back to the kitchen and was later served barely warm. When the appetizer plates were cleared knives were brought out for the main course but our forks were removed with the plates. The cold main course was served but we had to wait to get forks to use. The dining room head did give a small credit to our bill for the errors. The food seamed to be prepared properly but being cold I cannot say that it was the quality that you would expect from a restaurant that was supposed to be high quality.
Nice atmosphere very friendly staff, my filet was delicious but I did expect a little bit more... not many options for dinner or dessert and not really kid friendly but overall very nice experience
It was good.
My Steak Frites was chewy. The menu was somewhat limited. The bar does not know the difference between club soda and tonic water. Limited wine list.Deserts were fine. Because of the ambience I will probably give them a second chance. Hopefully they will improve over time.
My wife and I had brunch with you recently and the overall experience was amazing. The food was prepared perfectly. The decor is beyond imagination. We look forward to coming back soon.
Beautiful venue with a historic vibe, and we really appreciate our server Sean who was working so hard to take care of us and the whole brunch crowd. Seemed under-staffed and the brunch menu was very limited. My brother-in-law has food sensitivities and really only had one menu option, the Belgian Waffle, which he ordered. When the rest of us received our orders, he was told they had run out of Belgian Waffle mix. He then just asked for rye toast which they said they would bring. When it came out, it was white toast. The plate was warm but the toast was cold, and definitely was not rye. So we each gave him the roasted potatoes from our plates and he ate the cold toast. Then as we were getting ready to pay the bill, suddenly a server arrived with a fresh plate of Belgian Waffle. Too bad he had filled up on potatoes and white bread and since we had been there for 2.5 hours we were ready to leave. There were no bagels or English muffins available, in general just a limited menu and a sense that this was kind of like a new restaurant opening up with a “soft open.” That said, we would come back for drinks and the vibe. Thanks!
We were seated quickly, and got immediate service. Our waters arrived along with house speciality menus. Our drinks and meal orders were taken, and our drinks were excellent. Food was paced perfectly, and allowed us time to chat. Several different personel stopped by to check on the quality of everything. We were impressed, and will go back.
Wonderful Franco-Moroccan food. Spices not sauces. Delicious. Get the chicken.
We had a wonderful meal at this restaurant. Our service was attentive without being overbearing. I found the atmoshere to be a happy one, and one in which I look forward to returning to. We had the lobster tail to begin with, and the chicken for an entree. Everything was delicious. I had the steak tartar for my main, which was also delicious.
Excellent experience at the new Le Cavalier, formerly the Green Room. The renovations are perfect, keeping the grand, elegant atmosphere with just the right amount of upgrade. The food was wonderful. Excellent onion soup and the Branzino was delicious. Our server, Evalina was the best. Very attentive and engaging with food explanations and interesting conversations. We will definitely return!
Some things have changed. Some things remain the same.
Overall had a great time for our first visit. Service was great and the updates to the Green Room are wonderful. The original tile floor is fabulous. The lobster tails appetizer was outstanding. Steak Frites and Duck Frites were very good. I would love to see a more extensive wine list. We will be back for another visit.
Wonderful waiter, attentive staff, gorgeous room. I had the branzino and it was absolutely delicious and I wish I could have finished it. My boyfriend's pork was amazing and he just about finished it. We also had the shrimp cocktail and Caesar salad. I would only say that the salad was not very flavorful, but I enjoyed it and it was nicely presented.
We were in town for a pandemic get away so we decided to eat in the hotel. Excellent decision, good food and outstanding service. A bit pricey but not a disappointing value. I do think $30 for a neat Johnny Walker Blue was a bit much.
The food was just okay but the server was awful. We wound up going up to the bar to get the wine we ordered 25 minutes earlier while waiting for the wait person to return to take our order. Then we never saw him again. I'm sure you are understaffed but this was very, very disappointing. No plans to return.
Such a beautiful space and ambiance-- one feels transported to an elegant French bistro in Paris! Upscale yet with a modern bistro vibe-- marble table tops (no linens), velvet upholstered booths, and wait staff in button downs and jeans. The food was excellent. I love French Onion soup and Le Cav's did not disappoint-- rich, ultra-savory and satisfying with a herby flavor complexity and topped with a delicious Gruyere. Steak Frites au poivre was at perfect temp with complex pepper flavor complexities that did not detract from the meat. The dessert was the only slight disappointment- a chocolate rye cake that was too bland to be memorable. Overall, a great Friday evening dinner and a definite star in Wilmington.
The menu was extremely limited. The food quality was average. My steak had gristle running through it. The duck was good , chicken was adequate, branzino was good. The recipes were interesting but food quality was not the best. The desserts were interesting but not tasty. The wine list, the thing we all loved about the Green Room was non-existent and if you asked about the cellared wines they were priced astronomically.
Service was excellent, food was great and overall the experience was perfect. The atmosphere is a wonderful blend of old and new. Great job to the owners for maintaining the history while updating an inviting people of all ages.
Went for Easter dinner. Small menu but that’s ok. Delicious meal! Service was ok but a few little omissions—did not bring water until we asked for a second time. Hot tea without offer of sugar, etc. Had to ask. Mistake made on bill which had to be rectified. Overall good experience.
This was a Fix Prix, 3 course dinner. Each course was well prepared and well presented. The Crab Cakes were exceptional as they were nicely crisped on the outside with lots of wonderful crab inside. Everyone was knowledgeable, polite and prompt.
Forgot to put in drinks then charged for one of them. Said there were no frites for the burger but a server had fries with her break meal. The crab cakes had so much crab seasoning they were almost inedible. They charged $25 for my granddaughter’s waffle.
I’ve been here for dinner on 3 occasions and enjoyed it immensely. I was embarrassed to keep apologizing for this over the meal.
Automatic 20% gratuity was not earned.
Nothing financially was done to ameliorate the disaster. At least they could have picked up the other nonalcoholic drinks or the valet parking.
Never again for brunch and I warned my friends.
Atmosphere beautiful. Service very slow and food was lukewarm. For Easter Brunch price fixed- they automatically added tip which was not mentioned for a party of 4. Very disappointed.
