Loved the place. Wish there was more fine dining on dire island!!
Turns out Le Dock isn't open for lunch even though I booked my reservation here. When the restaurant canceled the reservation, I called to find out why. The person was matter of fact. Not apologetic that my plan was ruined. I rearranged my day and went for dinner instead. Slow service even though there were only five tables being served. Finished my cocktail long before I was asked if I wanted another. Empty appetizer plates sat for about ten minutes. Not what I was expecting from a Jean Georges restaurant. Won't got back. Wouldn't recommend.
It was a nice little surprise tucked away in fire island. The ambiance was quaint and cozy.. and the food was absolutely delicious. The steak was cooked to perfection and we also had the simply cooked shrimp which scrumptious. The portions were great sizes and The Gin mint martinis are not to be missed!
It is the end of the season on Fire Island, so a few items on the menu weren't available. However the cocktails and food was top notch, and with most of the summer folks gone it was delightfully quiet. An excellent evening.
My wife and I had a stellar evening on our 10th wedding Anniversary at Le Dock. From the gracious reception to the friendly, attentive service, fantastic cocktails & delicious food... all together made for a fantastic night for both of us.
Somewhat overpriced considering all aspects of the experience, food, service, and ambience. But still elevated compared to the options on the island. Dinner for our family with two children came to $65 per person. Mussels and crispy salmon appetizers were the highlights.
Really delicious but too pricey to make a habit out of going weekly like we used to in previous summers before. Once a summer will have to be fine.
It's the one game in town so if you want to go out, it's to The Dock.
Food is good, portions are small. I'd go more often but there's a sewage smell when you walk into the restaurants from the bathrooms. This last time I smelled it well inside the restaurant. I usually try to eat outdoors for this reason. But there were green flies all day at the beach and we needed protection and air conditioning. The ac wasn't on. I'm done for the summer!
Enjoyed our meals -- and our waiter, but the noise level is through the roof!
Would have liked
*a green salad other than the kale salad offered
*bigger portions -- the calimari, the fish entrees
Le Dock is in a summer community, and the prices are way too high for "grabbing a bite" after the beach!
The menu was very limited. The fish of the day was superb but for the 3 non fish eaters with me, there was little to order. Very limited choice of salads too.
There is a major problem with the sewage
Upon entering there is a horrible odor coming from the restrooms
If you eat towards the back it's ok
Or you just get used to it
Food is excellent
The scallop special was very good. However, the NY strip was fatty and over charred.. not very good at all. The organic chicken was underwhelming and the best thing about the cheeseburger was the french fries. The menu is very limited. We dined dockside which is a unique experience and you cannot beat the view!
Fantastic food! Lucy & Jill from management made our experience tremendous.
Enjoyed the food ,drink.hoped for a table outside but hostess said we're all taken . We were there for 2 hrs and some and all the tables were still empty . They also rushed us to order even though we ordered apps for the table and wanted to enjoy a drink first. We got there early 45 minutes and they insisted we sit at the table instead of having a drink at the bar first. But the food was good
Very diverse crowd - and of course- already an adventure to get there by water taxi
It's a shame what has happened to this once, casual, no-fuss, barefoot community restaurant. Large portions of local fresh flounder, abundant mussels and tasty calamari with plenty of healthy side options (included!) have been turned to microscopic morsels of mediocre preparations. And they have no business offering linguini and clams. Bland, tasteless and gummy! My Italian grandmother was probably turning over in her grave that I even made an attempt to eat it! Surprising that Jean Georges is not embarrassed to attach his name to this sad replacement of Le Dock! Yes, it's away crowded (which is why they don't care about an honest review like this), but that is because it is the only restaurant in the Fair Harbor community and you just can't beat the view! I'm sure if he could have shrunk that as well and charged a ticket to view, he would have! The seafood at the ferry dock in Bay shore is far superior and authentic.
Had to wait 15 minutes despite reservations.
Had to leave quickly as a real mosquito problem outdoors.
Previous experiences at Le Dock have been awesome. Not sure if we caught them on a bad night but service was slow enough to ruin the night and food was below their standard.
Either the staff is understaffed or not managed well, because it was the worst service I have ever had. Also the room is too noisy for normal conversation.
Excellent food from start to finish. Too bad the prices were so high for smallish portions. I would love to indulge more often.
I have been to Le Dock for many years. I love the interior to the restaurant, it is an improvement. The service, is what you expect in a beach community, they are trying, but it can be slow.
The restaurant is too expensive for the community. It is not fine dining. Cocktails need not be $16, and every dish $30 or above. We are in FI, not NYC. I would also like salt and pepper , and return the lighthouse dessert
The food was a step up from recent years. Portion size was spot on. The service was perfectly timed. We were seated immediately upon our 7:00pm reservation time.
So we live locally on the mainland and we spend a few weeks each August in Fair Harbor and have eaten there a number of times since the JGV deal started. Josh Eden was good, we had some great meals there last summer but I think Chef Joe Dobias is better. More flavor.
Let me be clear here though- prior to our meal here on 8/5/17 I was warned not to go. I am not much of a review follower, I think people in this day and age either have their expectations set way beyond realistic or just don't get it in general. Anyway, I booked a few weeks in advance, then got a call that I needed to move my reservation to a later time due to an event that day at Le Dock for a local politician. No problem I modified my time to 7PM, party of 4.
We arrived a few minutes early and went to the hostess station. A gaggle of young staff seemed to hover there, one nice young lady asked if she could help, I stated my name and reservation, she asked that I speak to the hostess...there appeared to be some confusion, the GM was brought in and said I am sorry we are full tonight but we can seat you right here inside- which was nice but I said I made a reservation 3 weeks ago, you called me to change it and I did. She (Misses Doe as she goes by) was very polite and said let me check on this. She returned and said I am sorry I have you for 9PM- I showed her my Open Table confirmation for 7PM and she said she would make it work. No big deal, perhaps some confusion somewhere. I will say this- Misses Doe was very nice, pleasant and accommodating, we ended up with a nice table outside and a very good waitress, Andrianna G.
On to the food- outstanding. Shrimp with chilies and garlic, tuna tartare, fried calamari (kids), fried chicken, roasted lobster for the Mrs. and I, followed by shared chocolate mousse. I had 2 ginger margaritas, my wife frose. I think Joe D and his staff nailed it this night. I talked to some friends who ate after us and they said the same
Excellent all around dining experience. Food is top notch, especially for Fire Island. The manager Jill is great and the staff seem very on the ball, friendly, accommodating and attentive. The environs are second to nine, especially at sundown. Beautiful view of the bay and dock.
If you prefer to dine in a restaurant where you can't hear and you like tiny portions at NYC prices this is the restaurant for you.
Food was decent, though overpriced ($48 for the smallest lobster I've ever seen served). Watermelon salad and shrimp appetizer both very good. Burger was undercooked, raw in the center (requested "medium"). Service was atrocious, with multiple requests (when we could locate our waitress) required for virtually everything, from food order updates to ketchup, to a bottle of wine, to a wine bucket.
Imagine the only restaurant in a tiny town on an island. Imagine the best food you could find anywhere, served by the loveliest and well-trained staff. Imagine the prices as being very reasonable. This is Le Dock.
Good food. Very ordinary cheesecake.
Inside too noisy
Tables outside facing bay too cramped together.
Tables on west side too busy
Love the restaurant just wish the portions were a tad larger
This is my neighborhood restaurant and loving every moment of my dining experience
We had a 7:45 reservation for dinner on Thursday evening 7/20/17. We were seated outside in front near the entrance to the wine store. The restaurant was moderately busy. It took the waiter 20 minutes to get to our table. We ordered the hummus to share. Main courses were the salmon for my wife and the linguini and clams for me. We were served the hummus and the salmon and the same time. We did not get the bottle of wine we ordered until after the hummus and salmon arrived. We then waited almost 15 minutes for the linguini and clams. The table across from us had two children with iPads playing movies with the volume turned up.
The waiter was clueless. This is a fine restaurant without the service to match - not even close. College kids working here on summer break should be trained or the restaurant should invest in real staff for the prices they charge. What should have been a relaxing waterside dinner turned into an aggravating experience. Waist of time and money.
Take advantage of the opportunity to watch the sunset while enjoying excellent food in Fair Harbor. Not the place to go if you are in a rush - the service was on the SLOW side. Don't sit under an AC if sitting outside but do order a Frose (or two).
I had one of the best meals in years here, it was the best. Drinks were perfect, dinner was delicious. The outdoor seating has the best view of the sunset you could ask for. It was over-all just amazing. Can't recommend enough.
The food is incredible. Really amazing. But the service is painful. At our table for 4, one person's dinner can 45 minutes after the other 3. Not even an apology. Come for the food and the sunset. Don't sit indoors or you can't hear yourself think. Hoped in May and June they would work out the service problem, but it's July and still no... but I will keep coming back for the food and the outdoor seating.
We had a great time. Attentive staff. Food was great. Didn't like standing in line for bathroom though.
Le Dock has never been as good. The food is excellent. Between the overall quality, the taste and the presentation it is a welcome contrast to other offerings on Fire Island. Although it's connected to and considered a Jean George restaurant, it is Fire Island through and through., but with much better service than is normally found in any beach resort. It is casual in its vibe. Your are made to feel welcome. Fresh fish. Steamers. Delicious mussels. Along with plenty of non seafood choices make this a perfect restaurant in a perfect location. The only thing that needs improvement and it's huge, is the noise. It is painfully loud, and it doesn't need to be. There are solutions that can be put in place to mitigate the situation. Otherwise ask for a table outside, and come in time for the sunset.
Good is excellent with the exception of the deserts - very ordinary - and not that great. All in all excellent experience
Terrible all around. Service, food, etc. tough to believe this is a jgv restaurant
Everything was delicious. My friend and I each had mussels, and they were super fresh with a gorgeous broth. I had linguini with clams, garlicky with peperoncini on the side. My friend loved his salmon. Everyone who works there is kind.
Had dinner at Le Dock last Saturday night and and had a great time. Service was great and so was the food!! Manager makes you feel welcomed. Already have a reservation for our next visit
