Le Vieux Comptoir
Steak Tartare Beef Tartare
We booked a table for 4 at 8:45pm. In 45 minutes we had our starters, main courses and desert. They just wanted to close the restaurant as fast as they could. We didn’t had the time to enjoy the food.
Our starters : fois gras was good, our 3 oinions soup were tasting like water ( they probably had only 1 oinion soup left and added water to the mixture to make it 3 portions).
Mains courses : Our medium rare onglet was just cooked rare.
The charcuterie platter didn’t have any butter with it.
But our big disappointment was the cheese fondue, we ordered 2 and thought it was a portion for 1 so we asked the waitress who answered no it’s for 2 but you will see you will not finish it. Of course we did finish it as the quantity were ridiculous.
We just finished our food and desert was already on the table. We had no break whatsoever between starters, main courses, desert and bill.
We left almost as fast as we arrived and still hungry.
I don’t recommend this place neither for the food or the service. Does not reflect a proper french restaurant vibe, food, quantity and service.
A visit to Le Vieux Comptoir is always a joy. It feels like a secret enclave. With fantastic wines, lovely authentically French dishes, a relaxed, quiet ambience and great service, it’s a wonderful experience.
Excellent venue, great ambience and service. A somewhat hidden gem.
Amazing food and outstanding service!
We had basically the fondue as that’s what we’re craving for and reason for the booking. And having had fondue in several places in London for so many years I can say that the one there was probably the best one. A must try for sure and soon we’ll be back for the raclette, another favourite of mine.
Great find - it like being back in the French Alps - great value and choice of wines…
Always a treat. Great food. Great wine. Lovely atmosphere
This spot is a Hidden Gem! The wine, The Food the Ambience .. everything was just perfect... To Laurent, You are an amazing Host. See you next time.
Very poor service, I'd a date and we were given the most loud corner in the restaurant in spite of having mentioned that I wanted a candle lit side table and if its not available I won't be going ahead for booking. The music request which was made pre-booking was also not fulfilled.
Though I'd a a good date all thanks to the girl I met, but the money we spent and the expectations I'd was completely different.
Rustic charming restaurant, limited menu but great food.
too expensive for a place where they don't change forks between courses.
As on my previous visits the food is outstandingly delicious the service friendly and attentive mixes with great humour and a wine list which surprises in quality and value. Lovely
Great food and waiters who obviously have much experience with food and wine and can recommend great pairings. Overall lovely experience
Wonderful atmosphere; a real home from home. Professional, attentive service and exquisite food and wine.
A gem off the beaten path. Highly recommend if you want delicious authentic french cuisine and a very well priced wine list
This was a lovely casual and relaxed dinner in a beautiful setting. We enjoyed the fondue and raclette...look forward to going back again soon.
Great authentic French food, friendly and professional service, excellent high end wines at reasonable prices, all in an authentic French ambience which makes me think that I'm in the Dordogne. we eat there at least once every month, and often more frequently.
Creme brûlée is a must try, although the service is not that good. Overall, worth the try.
Food was average, taste was there but too dry. Lack of taste for the price.
Lovely food and really attentive service!
Lovely little place tucked away in a quiet corner. Very french feel to it. It was a bit lacking in atmosphere as there were so few other diners there. But it has a lovely feel to it. Service was friendly and attentive. Thé foie gras starter was a little disappointing as quite bland but I enjoyed my lyonnaise salad and profiteroles. One thing I would certainly suggest, however, is that you use real cream with these and not out of a can cream. Otherwise a lovely find and we will be back.
Great food and wine, friendly and professional staff and a great ambience - I feel like I am in the Dordogne
It was a birthday dinner and they did not offer dessert nor a candle and happy birthday song
Love this restaurant a real little gem …..
Looking forward to our next visit x x
Classic good value menu coupled with impeccable and relaxed friendly service and excellent wine list.
A lovely little find. Food excellent although the profiteroles were not fresh. Overall, look forward to returning soon :)
Favourite gem in Marylebone! Great service, excellent food and wine.
We had an excellent meal at The Old Counter, but a relaxed meal felt somewhat rushed as the kitchen closes at 10pm and the restaurant at half past the hour even on a Saturday! Understandable as the place wasn't very full with the football going on, but at the same time we were paying customers so not nice to feel hurried. Service was impeccable apart from being reprimanded for asking for salt which was more funny than anything. Will come again, but will book an earlier sitting next time. Also, for a French place, the cheese selection was a bit bland, charcuterie spot on though!
Great, as always. The host is very welcoming. The food is great but the choice could be more broad and/or it could vary a little more. The "up-sell" on the wine is a little strong.
Wonderful service and food. We love coming here! Definitely our favorite French restaurant in London!
What a wonderful French restaurant tucked away in London. Attentive service, gorgeous food. We have the charcuterie and then a quiche, followed by a tarte tartin. All lovely and good price! The wine was also spot on. Definitely recommend.
What a super place. Lovely food and service. A hidden gem.
Lovely friendly French bistro hidden away near Marylebone High Street. Good good, great atmosphere.
Very enjoyable lunch. Good food, excellent service and very chilled
Lovely cosy family feel French bistro. All a bit understated. Friendly staff although limited menu.
Nice restaurant. Had the duck burger but did not enjoy the taste . Perhaps more to do with my taste than the food. My friend enjoyed her meal .
A lovely restaurant with a real bistro feeling. Excellent service. I recommend the steak tartare for those who eat beef.
glorious food, ambience and service - first time visiting but will definitely be back to conquer the cheese!
Four words… all you can eat Raclette… do i even need to say anything else in this review or are you already booking? Best restaurant in London without the crazy prices! They have the best wine menu in London with an incredible interactive dining experience. Everything was to die for, now I can’t wait to come back for brunch.
Very kind staff, excellent ambiance and good! Love the all you can eat raclette
